Second ten (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by sadthrow420
(TX) Our store misses second tens basically every time I work. I used to be able to ask to stay ten minutes late in the back and clock out then, but today I was told “that ends here”. I know when I’m supposed to get second tens because we all look at the book. I feel like I was worked for ten minutes for free and that’s not cool. It’s no big deal once, but 3 missed tens a week is 30 minutes so every month I’m missing two hours or more of pay.

Is there anything in Starbucks regulation against not giving second tens or something I can do? I told my store manager if I can’t stay late then I’m gonna be more annoying asking for my second ten during the last half of my shift.

Is it against the rules to not give the breaks assigned in the dcr? Because if I make a fuss but it’s actually allowed then I’ll look like a dumbass lol

yeah dude, super against company policy im pretty sure

Have you talked to your DM? If the DCR generates two tens for your shift, then you *must* be offered both tens.

They should be giving u ur second 10min break. Bring it up to them. If u dont speak on it, then they definitely wont cuz they would rather have u on the floor probably. So definitely advocate for yourself and let them kno u need it and/or ask when it can be given to u.

The part about staying in the back 10 mins extra past ur shift before u clock out...my shifts or manager would be like uhh hell no. Because they would say that its not like i was clocked out and working. Although its wrong not to give all breaks, it is a paid one so maybe they just dont look at it as mandatory or maybe they forgot if they were doing something or if it was busy? Still messed up but im just trying to figure out why thet could have forgotten it several times. Definitely speak up for yourself because they wont care if u dont cuz they dont know that its bothering u on the days that theyre not giving it to u

Yeah my old shift gave me that stay late 10 minutes thing, he was really firm about everybody getting their breaks even if it meant he didn’t. Miss him :(

Yea that sucks when u have good people in a position of authority around u that actually care about everyone and their well-being and end up leaving. Definitely mention it tho cuz otherwise theyre guna be like "ok theyre not asking for their 10 so who cares, im not guna say anything either" or they keep forgetting. So for sure bring it up and remind them whenever u notice its getting closer to ur 10min break time

Edit: i fixed my first sentence where I originally said "yea that sucks when you have good people in a position of authority around you that actually care about everyone in their well-being" because that doesn't suck lolol my mind just trailed off and I meant to add the second half of it like where it sucks that you have somebody good like that in a position of authority around you but then they end up leaving or something like that

I’m gonna start doing that for everybody’s second tens. Because it’s not just me
Responsible_Snow7109 1 points 10m ago
U gotta advocate for yourself and they have to also be able to do that for themselves on their own too so that the shift/manager can see u guys notice it and are speaking out for yourselves
