Explaining beverage sequencing to customers 🙄(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MrsOceanGrown
We didn’t have a cold bar for a moment today and I was sequencing from espresso’s to Frappuccino’s. The lady who ordered the Frappuccino is watching me intently. I started her Frappuccino in the blender and walked over to start my latte. I haven’t even finished aerating the milk and she’s goes, “did you forget about my Frappuccino??” I said “NO, I didn’t, I’m sequencing more than one beverage at a time. Once i get this latte going i will come back to finish your Frapp.” She gave me a look like she caught me messing up; smirk 😏 like that. EW honestly you come back here and make these drinks and tell me how to do it better 🫡

A couple weeks ago there was a woman in cafe waiting for her matcha frappuccino. I put it in the blender and started on a refresher. Finished the refresher, put a lid on and sent it out. I was about to take her frap out of the blender when the person on window asked me to remake a drink that was supposed to be a different size. It was a refresher and they were right there so I went to start to remake the refresher.
Our cold bar is by drive thru like 15 ft from the cafe and she gets on her tiptoes to peer over the bar and yell "UM, EXCUSE ME!? DON'T YOU DARE START ONE MORE DRINK BEFORE YOU FINISH MY MATCHA" she then looked around and realized everyone was staring at her so she thought that she'd justify herself by saying "I wouldn't NORMALLY be this impatient but I have somewhere to be and she's made MULTIPLE drinks after starting mine". I finished her stupid grass milkshake and handed it out. Then apologized to the drive-thru person waiting on their refresher and made theirs. It was so frustrating.
(Also no hate on matcha the lady just made me bitter lol)

😤 people do not have to come at us like that! That’s another thing i get frustrated when making teas and refreshers. There’s no “stopping point” so you can’t really sequence them fast. And technically your finishing the second drink before the first if that second drink is a shaken tea/refresher

Literally 😫 Imagine if she just waited 30 more seconds and avoided the public embarrassment of disrupting all the people in the cafe.

Grass milkshake. I'm dead. That's the funniest sentence

That's just about the time my clumsy ass would accidentally knock a matcha frappuccino on the ground

I used to say this to customers, especially cubicle drones during AM peak:
“I wouldn’t go to your job and tell you how to do it, please extend the same courtesy to me.”

Although I totally will come in with a cup of hot coffee and start pouring some out in their trash cans, just so they know how it feels.

I hate that. I one time had a customer just super mad bc I was on cafe bar (which at our store is cafe/mobile/and delivery). It was a Friday morning and super busy. This guy who ordered in the cafe starts asking where his drink is and being like “it’s just a cold brew,” while I’m trying to keep my cool and explain it would take me much longer to sit and go through all the stickers and find the cafe drinks/easy drinks of those. Like when it’s that busy you really can’t be jumping around (at least I can’t), but they really think they’re the only ones who exist and are so entitled.

Whenever I’ve got a ton of people staring at me like a zoo animal at lunch time, when they inevitably start asking for their drinks I, in my super sweetest tone, tell them collectively as a group I am working on a drink from X time, I’m not sure what time it is now though!” And it mostly takes care of it for a bit and they are usually pretty cool (with a few exceptions). But idk, reading some stories on here, there are some real dbags that come to some of your guys’ stores lol

I tell those customers if they think they know how to do it better then me we are hiring

one day after a full four hours of storewide training where said shift went over sequencing for ages, i got chewed out by said shift who was training it for sequencing exactly like she told us literally the day before and how i always have done it with no issues before and honestly im so over it

Doing both bars can be tricky. I get the feeling, just wish people would be patient. "Excuse me, why isn't my Latte done?" Because I am making two Ubers in front of you, they came out of the machine first. Just wait thirty seconds.
