If we are busy and someone walks to the handoff to order water- I direct them to the register, or I call down and yell “can you ring in a cup of water??” If they complain after that, I tell them we make the drinks in the order they were received. People are dicks, but this generally makes them calm down.

COMPLAIN ABOUT WHAT? IS SHE EVEN A CUSTOMER? WHAT DID SHE BUY? Next time u need to be cut throat and dry—“there are drinks ahead of you. You need to wait. I’m not gonna stop and make your free water while the others paid $8 for their drinks. That being said we are busy. ARE YOU CONFUSED HOW A LINE WORKS?”
I don’t entertain these people and I make them wait. If they said I’m not gonna wait then they can leave.
