There’s a app you can download on your phone called Starbucks global academy, you have to do 5 of them ‘Starbucks coffee academy’ you’ll do 100, 200, 300x3 then you’ll meet with your manager and you’ll have to do coffee tasting and latte art, you should be able to tell the difference between the coffee and tell them what aroma and tastes you can note, along with certain latte art. I believe they do cost a pretty penny but I work at a licensed store in a hotel so they actually paid for mine bc I was the first in the store to get one. You will have to get approved by your gm

This isn’t how a corporate store does it. It’s no cost, up to managers discretion if they are suitable to move forward with it, have to complete a coffee passport within the past year, and be with the siren for a minimum of a year. We’re only given training budget for one every 6 months

The global academy is the same though, but corporate stores have a lot more guidance on the process

Edit: I’ve told a lot of my baristas no based on their reasoning of why they want to be a coffee master

at my store we had to be there for a year, complete the starbucks coffee academy courses, i did a coffee tasting with my manager and i talked to her about the notes and how a french press works/coffee grind sizes since that’s what we used, we didn’t do a tasting with the dm bc at the time we were still getting a new one. but another barista who has been there less than a year was able to get theirs anyways, i think sometimes they waive it? idk. they were supposed to wait until their one year initially but i saw them wearing a black apron the next time i worked with them
