Spanish speaking friends ! (self.starbucksbaristas)

Im latino but sadly don’t speak Spanish fluently. I know a lil bit but not enough to have a full “customer connection” Many people assume I can and it low key makes me feel kinda bad 😭 Although I know you would just have to be fluent and I’m still learning, what are some basic drink questions/ phrases that are common? Again I know you would have to have be fluent to really understand but we have people come in who aren’t fluent in English and there isn’t always someone around who speaks it and it would be nice to know some key phrases. Don’t shame me 😭 Tyia 🫶🏼

Our store has a translation card for the most common drinks! Next time I’m in, I can send it to you if you’d like!

Someone recently made an English-to-Spanish guide to common Starbucks terms and posted it. I'm pretty sure it was this sub and not the other starbucks sub.

my spanish is honestly pretty mid but spanish speaking customers find it really charming and nice of you if your attempt to try. a lot of spanish speakers became regulars to talk to me every morning too!
i do understand customers when they order in spanish but when they get conversation i get iffy…

so just be like “lo siento, yo no hablo mucho español, pero yo quiero practicar mi español más”

and then if they don’t speak much english i love to be like “¿te gustaria practicar ingles conmigo ?me gustaria que practiques espanol contigo.

my spanish speaking customers enjoy this and we will exchange a word with each other every time they come.

do you happen yo have any specific phrases you’d like to use while they order though? otherwise i can tell you my most used ones

You have no idea how happy I was when I realized I understood 90% of that first sentence! Lol

I've been taking duolingo for over 200 days now which is better for learning words and vocab. I can usually take simple orders, if they ask for espanol I say a little and we can usually meet halfway. If not I'll have a coworker step in but they all give me a chance first. The other week I managed to tell someone I have the same shirt they have and it felts so great. Also started a habit of telling them to have a great day and say thank you in Spanish as well. Most of them find it a little funny that a white girl is trying to speak Spanish but I'm hoping it's a good laugh lol

Lingodeer is also another great app for learning

so these are probably the easiest phrases you’ll learn to memorize

¿Hola estas listo para ordenar?
hello , are you ready to order?

i’ve noticed people will say
No la quiero muy dulce( i don’t want it very sweet)
you can just say okay and adjust the pumps.

sbux sizes can be confusing so, when i ask what side i just say
“de chica, mediana, o grande” (small , medium, or large)
if you offer the sizes this way and they say grande give them a Venti

most people will order their drink off the menu and know what it is so there’s not really a need to know the spanish translation, just if they order a frapachino for a child i just always say “¿con café?” (with coffee?)

then for hot or iced just ask “¿de frio o caliente?”

you don’t have to get nervous or think much into it while they order just be more confident in trying
