Today is my first day scheduled since Sunday morning. I haven’t been feeling well since then but yesterday was the worst. Bc I felt so bad I texted my manager last night that I was sick and probably wouldn’t be able to come in today (I have a closing shift today). I did this so they would have ample time to find coverage; however, they still have not text me back but was still able to text our group chat that two other people got covid and could not come in today. I don’t know if their ignoring my text right now, I’m just worried they are going to try to make me come in when I am sick. This thought is mainly because one of my coworkers got sick and was told if she couldn’t find coverage before her shift she would have to work anyway just have to wear a mask for the duration of her shift. I am at the doctors right now and can get a note but I’m still worried. Any advice? Should I call my manager (not the nicest individual so just was trying to avoid this option) or my store right now, it’s still 10 am but I want to get this sorted out asap.

Texting isn’t considered a valid form of communication for calling out etc. so you’ll have to call the store at a minimum or you’ll be marked as NCNS

I sucked it up and called my manager. Turns out they saw the text just never responded but i’m all good. Thanks for the advice.

Piggy backing on previous comment. Call the store and talk to the shift on duty. Tell them you are calling out sick. If the doctors note has a return to work date on it then give them that info too. They can not force you to work sick. It’s on the SM to find coverage or close the store early.

concerned about the comment about mask wearing if you’re sick and can’t find coverage.. your store leaders should know better than that- even when short staffed :/
