Calibration for espresso bars (self.starbucksbaristas)

What’s the standard on the espresso bars being calibrated? My shift said the hoppers automatically calibrate to the beans but I’ve hit the auto calibrate button on the menu when the shots do look right… is this something that should be done often? Or leave as is?

To calibrate espresso machines you pull one double shot of each (decaf, regular, blonde) if they have a star they are good! If they don’t pull five double shots of that roast. If the 5th double shot has a star you are good, if not perform an auto calibration which takes about 10-15 min

On the m2s the calibration is automatic and pulls about 30 shots iirc

This was instructions for the m2s, you do 5 doubles to calibrate a specific espresso roast (decaf, regular, blonde) then if it still is pulling bad you do an auto calibration. Shouldn’t go straight for the auto calibration as it takes longer and wastes beans if not needed

Interesting. We always run auto on the machines as soon as we open and it’s a pain and yes, super wasteful

see that’s what i originally thought, i thought it was better to have it calibrated everyday even though it is wasteful you’re getting better quality.. tbh i dont think anyone does it at my store and if im getting a drink myself i want the shots to be right…
