Unfair treatment to new Baristas (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Accomplished_Past_10
This is probably just my store, but Im not sure.
Im tired of feeling like Im being targeted at my store. Thankfully, Im not staying at this store for long, Im eventually moving to a new store. A couple days ago my ASM told me that we cant wear white shoes, I was unaware but I bought black shoes for my next shift. That same day I came in with my new shoes, I literally see her wearing white converse… okay..

Another time, I stepped away for TWO seconds looking for a drink to be made because my DTO was busy somewhere else. I found it on the hand off plane and took it to the customer. Mind you, I already connected with that customer and she wasn’t that talkative, so I was just sitting & waiting for the drink. My ASM comes towards me and tells me “You did great on window today BUT, make sure you aren’t moving around and staying in your planted position:-)” All because I grabbed a drink two feet away from me?! What?! I told her that I was just grabbing a drink and she told me that its my DTOS job. I didnt say anything about my DTO not being there because DTO is also a new partner and I know my ASM would give the same BS.
Another time, I went to go help with adding ice to a drink really fast, and the SSV SCREAMED across the store that I should stay on window. I was so embarrassed. I wish he pulled me aside. I know if it was a partner who has been there longer than me, he would have said nothing:-(
There is also an ASM in training, and we’ve gotten close bc we’re both new and sort of feel targeted. She fell, and had a bruise all over her arm, and she couldnt walk. An incident report was made and she was sent home, along with her day off the next day. Her next day at work, they told her to rip up the Doctors Note ? Isnt that illegal? And they even got the district manager involved to say if she misses another day, shes fired. I feel like thats illegal in some way. Help

Definitely contact ethics. There's a lot of info but if your district DM isn't aware of all of this, they should be. And your store manager. Also its just plain weird to me that they're telling you not to help on bar... at my store DTO is the main "helping out" part of DT but DTR still tops up drinks all the time. I don't know why they aren't wanted yall to work together?? That's ridiculous imo

Thank you! I was nervous posting this bc Im new and I felt like I was overreacting and not be able to take criticism. But seriously looking into this, Ive noticed these three people target newer partners!

I felt pretty much the exact same way when I started. I understand they don't want you "messing stuff up" but they're being way over reactive and should contact ethics about the rest. Maybe see if you can talk to a shift you like/trust about it, thats how I starting bringing up problems I had. They gave me advice on who to talk to or it helped them know what to look out for so I had someone else on my side. A lot of older partners tend to have a sort of entitlement to newer people and honestly I felt like that until I had a forced heart to heart with the person that made me feel the most insecure at work.

This is when i would just stay at window and look at everyone struggling, and reminding them of so nicely on the headset “we’re waiting on a -insert item-, we’re reaching -drive time- at the window.”
