we got scammeddd last night(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Torirock10
this lady came in, said her daughters ordered 4 drinks yesterday and they were all made wrong.
she ordered: iced caramel machiatto iced matcha mango dragonfruit with no water light heavy cream and blended chocolate cream cold brew
she said “i didn’t come with them, but my daughters said they were all made wrong, not sweet enough, etc.” never even asked for more sweetener or anything though. when we tried to look up her daughters order from yesterday we didn’t find anything in our system. and they never called to complain yesterday.
so in conclusion i’m pretty sure we got scammed out of 4 drinks and our shift supervisor just let them do it >:(

I’m happy that my shift managers always stood their ground when it came to those customers. If you have no receipt, no digital/monetary footprint in our system, you get nothing but the price of those drinks.
Torirock10 [OP]79 points10m ago
exactly like and he said he would “make a note of her” and shit like bro she already got the drinks.
IdLikeToBuyA-Vowel36 points10m ago
I used to take descriptions or name of customers in my handy “passport” and the woman in your description would definitely be written in there. If she came back to try her trick again, definitely make everything decaf, nonfat, sugar free. She wants to save on money by lying she can save on some calories too.
Affectionate_Fart23 points10m ago
I wouldn’t do this. If you purposefully give someone dairy with an allergy, you can kill them. Make it right, don’t be a dick. End of the day: if you’re selling more than 4 drinks in your shift, you shouldn’t worry about it.
b99__throwaway29 points10m ago
yes but if someone is already getting 2%, they’re not going to be allergic to nonfat
IdLikeToBuyA-Vowel2 points10m ago
Late reply to this one, but I said that with only the caramel macchiato in mind. I mean, I can’t even “decaf” the other drinks anyways
Torirock10 [OP]12 points10m ago
yeah and like idek if he told anyone cuz he said it would be a “mental note” 🙄
Torirock10 [OP]5 points10m ago
lmao
aspiringgrandpa11 points10m ago
SAME we have a lady who is NOTORIOUS for ordering several drinks, drinking ALL of them, then bringing them back for not liking them. my manager is so fed up with her i’m pretty sure he’s about to ban her from the store 😂 every time she comes in he always tells us to get him when she eventually comes back with her empty cups to complain
BluejayHefty20220 points10m ago
Yea my store didn't play that my manager always said if it's less than 3/4 full you liked it. If you want a new one you will pay for it and return the old one. If you choose to keep the old one no new one will be made because obviously you like it enough to keep it. No refund either if you choose to keep the drink. I loved that about her
yirium2 points10m ago
Pay for it AND return the one you already paid for lmao that’s insane?
BluejayHefty2022 points10m ago
I meant or 😭😂
Buttafly_3602 points10m ago
PERIODTTTT😂👏🏼💯
turpentinetears67 points10m ago
We’re trained to go ahead and give free drinks. Honestly it’s Starbucks money, not ours 🤷🏻♀️ even though they are quite obviously scamming, sometimes it’s easier just to make the drinks and get them out
Puzzleheaded_You260128 points10m ago
That’s how I like to think of it. I’m not going to argue over starbucks money.
mrcupcake1815 points10m ago
Yeaaaaaaaaaah buuuuuut see here’s the thing. I’m all for that but sometimes I wonder like arnt we just rewarding bad behavior? Like I’m not arguing or trying to start something I’m like legit asking a question. Like if we don’t stand our ground won’t they just keep doing it knowing they can get away with it? 😳
jupiter_bug9 points10m ago
If they are pulling that shit at starbucks, they are doing it in other places. Its just trashy.
turpentinetears7 points10m ago
Oh yeah I definitely agree. It’s aggravating rewarding bad behavior, but if we have a repeat customer that continues to do stuff like that I’ll have a conversation with them about it from the angle of, “this seems to be happening a lot, so what can we do to make our service better?” And usually they’ll stop for a while (or try a different store lol). It’s just not worth it arguing with every single one bc there are so many that lie to try to get free shit
mrcupcake186 points10m ago
Oh ok see this is what I mean! Like not arguing but finding a way to like call them out without actually doing it kinda
dontgiveah00t15 points10m ago
Yep that’s what I remind myself & team of, we’re not personally out money and yes you probably made their drink right the first time. It’s just sugar… I mean coffee
kimchichii7 points10m ago
Starbucks is the REAL scam tbh lol.
3aTroop47 points10m ago
“Assume the Best” 🙄
Necessary_Low93934 points10m ago
Next time tell ur shift to make those drinks for them.
BluejayHefty2027 points10m ago
I've done this while training shifts if they make the call to remake orders when the customer has no receipt, and empty cups I would make them remake the entire order
Necessary_Low9391 points10m ago
Yeah same. I’ll just say I’m working on other drinks and ask them to make them.
Veloci-Tractor20 points10m ago
think about all the milk and coffee we dump each day
i wouldn't sweat it
Torirock10 [OP]30 points10m ago
i would cuz she was a bitch to us
StuffiesAndBeatSaber23 points10m ago
100% I wouldn't sweat it if someone's card declines and they're a sweetheart regular who never had it decline before... but some random lady with no receipts and nothing but word of mouth and being rude about the entire interaction? Fuck that. Pay up.
jazzysoranio13 points10m ago
I’m so torn on these situations because I hate how easy it is to scam us. But I also have to remind myself that they’re not scamming ME, they’re scamming my employer. At the end of the day they only got away with a few free drinks which is honestly worth only pennies to the company. It does suck though because letting them get away with it now means they’ll probably start doing it more often.
My go-to is always to look like I’m so ready and willing to remake it for them so they think they got this in the bag and I just say “okay, so what time was your order? I just need to find the order and hit the ‘remake order’ button to send it off to the barista to make.” 😂. Yes, I make up pretend buttons in our register. Lol. And then when I can’t find their order I just go “oh, are you sure it was this store? We don’t have any transactions that match yours.” I also do refunds that way too. I mean, can’t refund or remake an order that doesn’t exist!!!
Torirock10 [OP]4 points10m ago
lmao that’s funny
Zealousideal-Star44813 points10m ago
I wish we could flag peoples Starbucks account or even their credit card. And yea that’s pretty standard. It takes less time and payroll hours to just give them the stuff the first time they do it. If we don’t recognize them we have to assume they have good intentions (LATTE methods of addressing negative interactions with customers or upset patrons). L- listen genuinely, we need to hear their side of the story to understand what made them upset, concerned etc. A- assume good intentions, assume no customer is stealing from you. Assume they genuinely came and got drinks made wrong. Those two steps are very important to remember when stuff like this happens. Talk to a shift lead or manager more about LATTE method, it’s good for everyone to know and understand it. But never feel bad for asking an upset customer to wait a second so you can get a shift to help address the situation, customers always feel better if they talk to someone who understands the system, however stick around and pay attention to how your shift addresses it so you are better able to handle a similar situation next time.
Starbucks is multi million dollar company. They can afford to loose 4 drinks. They have the budget to make that customer feel good leaving our doors and make them want to come back to Starbucks.
dontgiveah00t12 points10m ago
We have a guy who says his trenta chocolate cold foam cold brew was always wrong and needs a remake cause he was handed a latte… bro we don’t make lattes in trentas. And nothing else gets chocolate cold foam 🫠
Torirock10 [OP]2 points10m ago
ugh ppl r dumb
[deleted]9 points10m ago
If they don’t have a receipt, never make it.
potterlyfe6 points10m ago
Ugh this brings up memories! I had a situation with a partner who used to be a shift at a neighboring store. There was this women who would come in and order like 4 venti caramel Frappuccinos. She'd pull the "I ordered them at another store and they tasted bad." Of course, at first she was given the benefit of a doubt but it quickly became an issue and she'd target partners who wouldn't challenge her. Finally the SM told her she needed to provide a receipt from the original purchase or they would not remake any more drinks. She came through the drive through and didn't have a receipt so my friend, when she was a shift, told her they wouldn't be remaking her drink unless she could provide the receipt. The lady flipped her shit and called her a fucking bitch. My friend said "we will no longer be serving you" and slammed the window shut. This lady proceeds to yell and scream then finally drives off when that wasn't working.
The next day our DM shows up and tells my friend she needed to apologize to the lady!!! Who knows what lies she said but my friend said absolutely not. She was given the option to apologize or to step down from shift. She stepped down. Some stores just do not have our backs.
I_like_to_know2 points10m ago
Pretty shitty the sm didn't have your friend's back when they were the one to pull the trigger on not remaking the drinks.
Torirock10 [OP]2 points10m ago
yeah it’s so >:((( frustrating
Druid_of_Twilight6 points10m ago
I don't do remakes unless they have a physical cup with the sticker or a receipt, too many scammers out there
princess-di-dv5 points10m ago
as a shift, i would always call them out on their BS. if they said it was made yesterday, i will look for that order in the system. if i don’t find their order then it’s a no. if they insist, i still say no but maybe they’re at the wrong store. i hope they don’t actually try to do it at another store but i hope that the rejection would deter them from doing it again. starbucks wants me to bend over backwards for the third place, but i personally just can’t do that.
Torirock10 [OP]4 points10m ago
yeah like it’s so lame “the starbucks way 🤓” bro i don’t wanna be a doormat. they wouldn’t do shit like this at any other fast food place
Wonderful-Put-59725 points10m ago
We have a lady who has super confusing drinks and none of us can ever make them right (apparently). She'll be super quick with the "imma phone corporate" complaint and if we go to take the old drinks back she gets mad AF! We just let her coz honestly it's not worth the hold up to argue with her!
laurenelizabeth0223 points10m ago
We had a lady who would come it like 3 times a week and would give me her phone because she apparently could t speaking English. But she would turn around and talk to someone in English, anyway not the point. But she was always tell me she had a Trenta pink drink that was made wrong and we use to give it to her but our manager told us to stop because she would do it so much. She would always say it was sweet enough enough tho she would always come in when I close and I would personally make her drinks and she told me it was perfect but then she would come in the next night pretending it was made wrong
lewabwee3 points10m ago
My philosophy as a supervisor is always “a scammer isn’t my problem.” If they’re suspicious enough I’ll hold up the line, check the system, ask for a receipt and be annoying. If my manager at the time would approve I’d deny service if I felt validated. If not I’m not gonna risk my job. Like, the fuck do you expect from supervisors? I have bosses and I have rent. I’m not remotely risking getting written up because of a scammer or a customer. Not when they’re not risking my money.
Electrical_Metal_1062 points10m ago
Our DM would say to just make them. They don’t care that we get scammed out of 4 drinks. They care about not giving good customer service. I don’t like it either, but as a Shift, I have to make that call. It’s not personal. If the same person comes again trying to get free drinks, then we question it.
Kaozilyn2 points10m ago
I used to get upset about this but then I realized they're a multi-billion dollar corporation who sucks the souls out of other companies and all their workers (and this is after I gave them 7 years of my life). So now I'm like, "sure. Here you go, kthanks bye"
Mea-fae_Owl732 points10m ago
In the last two days we had a person say “oh last week…” one was that we made the drink wrong (still had the cup half full of watered down liquid which I suspect she dug out of the trash) another said we forgot to give her a sandwich. Both cases I said we only replace items within a 24hr period and with talking to the shift on duty from that said time period.
Superb-Coast-780-4 points10m ago
Not my money not my problem. You’re literally being paid to serve customers. Who cares.
darkwolf5233 points10m ago
I think you’re missing the point in this rant.
Superb-Coast-7800 points10m ago
The ssv “let them get scammed out of 4 drinks”.
Which is a really dumb hill to die on. Especially as a barista.

Fuck all that, the lady was being a bitch about the whole thing. Completely kills my desire to bring her or her offspring any sort of joy, and is obviously scamming. Two, those are all annoying drinks to make with substitutions.
Responsible_Snow710913 points10m ago
I agree with u lol if theyre guna try that and be assholes about it, then pay up. Its literally not about "money from our pockets" or any of that. Its about the fact that it encourages entitlement and makes them continuously think they can do it and get what they want
