Manager asking why I got coverage for my shift tomorrow? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by monsteralvr1
Hi guys! I was scheduled to work tomorrow however I’ve been feeling really burnt out and would like a few days off (I’m not scheduled for the never two days so this gives me 3 days off). I found coverage for my shift and both me and my fellow partner let my manager know, but my manager is asking me why. Do I have to respond?

you don’t have to answer any communications from anyone off the clock.

Thanks! I’m worried this could turn into a disciplinary thing if I don’t respond, but if she asks me again when I go into work next week I’ll just say I needed the day off!

Tell that to my SM that will literally blow me up at 6 am in the middle of a vacation just to tell me something completely irrelevant 😒

I've heard different things. Whether or not they're allowed to ask, it always makes me uncomfortable when they do. I usually just say something generic like "I'm not feeling well" which is technically true if it's a mental health day! If they're worried about it being covid, you can always just say it's not covid related.

Thanks! Yeah I have some issues with this manager and how she holds biases against people who aren’t her “faves” / retaliates by cutting hours so I’m worried not answering will contribute to that, but if she asks while I’m on the clock I’ll just give her a vague response like that!

Ugh I'm so sorry she's like that, that really sucks. Good luck! I hope you're able to evade any ill will from her. Enjoy your time off, relax, and recuperate!

If you covered your shift and have written proof that it’s been covered and you let your sm know, you should be fine. You’re not obligated to answer any work related texts or calls when you’re off the clock. If your manager continues to push for reasoning, contact your dm.
