Another store made me “that customer”(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by imathrowayslc
I was headed out of town so stopped at a store near ours on my way. I’ve worked this store before so I know some of their issues. I ordered a trenta cold brew with two pumps toasted vanilla. I know this store uses full pumps on all of the pumps. They gave me 7 full pumps of toasted vanilla. I could t drink it it was so sweet. I had to have them remake it 😭. Not only that but a customer recognized me and told me she has never had a drink made right in this store.
Bonus points they were running a 10 person play with an empty cafe and I still waited at least 10 min.

good lord I’d be thrilled to run a 10 person play are you kidding, that’s unreal
angelinachisholm745 points10m ago
tips would be looking rough though LBR 😰
Sequential-River25 points10m ago
But the soul would be cleansed 😌
greenChainsaws19 points10m ago
well yeah bc op waited ten minutes when they shouldve waited like thirty seconds tops. who would tip at a store that has the resources to get you out on time and just doesnt

Honestly at some point you start seeing diminishing returns. Extra partners actually makes it worse after a certain number. We did a 10 person play once and EVERYONE was running into each other. We couldn’t run from hot bar to the cold foam machine without having to dodge and weave, it was incredibly frustrating. We had two people in cs and a few times they both flanked me on hot bar and it was incredibly claustrophobic. I feel like 7-8 partners is definitely the sweet spot.

I work in a high volume drive store where a 9 person play is amazing. If I had a 10th partner I would stick them at the door with an iPad to find customers mobile orders and direct them where to go like the downtown Disney store.
Aliciarox111895 points10m ago
I agree it depends on the play. I'm at a tiny high volume Cafe (non drive store). After 7 people it starts to be a bit chaotic just because of space -- but you can 3 on bar (2 hot bar, 1 cold, 1 on ipad/mobile hand off, 1 warming, 1 register and the last register support / flex).
extremewit1 points10m ago
That works. We’ve experimented with 2 on cold bar as well during high cold bar rushes.
TootsiePuff291 points10m ago
we had 7 the other day, and we were all running into each other 🤣
venusiangirl66 points10m ago
yeah that was my store. i would correct the *trainers* that iced shaken espressos were half pumps when i was on drive bar and they were on main while training their green beans. meanwhile i asked several times to be a trainer and was always turned down and told to study more on routine & recipes 😁

How could they *possibly* be so dysfunctional, for an extended period of time (long enough to have a reputation), and with that amount of staff? Boggles the move.
imathrowayslc [OP]38 points10m ago
They have been bad for years. I was at a gymnastic practice with my daughter talking to the other moms, I mentioned working at Starbucks and they both asked me what is wrong with that store as they live near it. Our store has so many regulars who drive 10 minutes out of their way to skip that store :/.
seacookie8914 points10m ago
I'm surprised upper management just lets it slide.
imathrowayslc [OP]18 points10m ago
There are two stores in our district like this. They both have had managers that were non-existent for years (think 6-12 month of medical leave where they would come back for a week or two every 2 months or so.) It really shows how important a strong manager is for the team. One of our shifts who was promoted to ASM is there now and is trying to work with the manager to get it right but told me every time he pushes standards he looses baristas, so he is moving slowly so they can stay open while fixing things.
DragonTear0327 points10m ago
Cold brew is full pumps but it is weird that they did 7 pumps
imathrowayslc [OP]17 points10m ago
I watched them make it :/ No idea what's going on in this store. The manager looked pissed when I asked for a remake.
DragonTear0329 points10m ago
Like they can’t even say that they didn’t read the ticket cold brew is literally 1/2/3/4
clouds18310 points10m ago
(you said full pumps but then listed half pumps, am mildly confused)
itsyaboimikey_13 points10m ago
they mean like the pumps are calibrated for full dosage of syrup rather than half. if you made a cold brew and used a syrup that had a half-dose pump in it, you would double it to be the correct amount
board-certified6 points10m ago
i’m so happy people know this!
DragonTear033 points10m ago
Me smort
_circuts2 points10m ago
They really said idc about your singular modification.
MexicanCatFur5 points10m ago
Isn’t cold brew half pumps/iced coffee full? Anyway a toasted vanilla is supposed to have a half pump for the shaken espresso?
DragonTear039 points10m ago
Both cb and iced coffee are full pumps of syrup cb is 1/2/3/4 while ice coffee is 3/4/6/7, and yes toasted vanilla is supposed to be a half pump but in the story all pumps have the full pump, pump
mulberrybby8 points10m ago
Yes. But for a drink that gets full pumps, you need to do full pumps. So it should be 4 full pumps of TV (8 half)
SavannaHeat3 points10m ago
This is true and was in a recent training. I’m not sure why you got downvoted.
mulberrybby1 points10m ago
Yep. It’s in partner resources under beverage something or the other
ItsAWildFelix15 points10m ago
IM SORRY 10 PEOPLE??? We get 4 if we’re lucky.
Hordesoldier1 points10m ago
yes, my store got 2 in normal day and 3 on weekend
Necessary_Low9397 points10m ago
10 people? Damn they suck then
crapricorn-014 points10m ago
10 PERSON PLAY
Pippy5754 points10m ago
A 10 partner play is a myth. No such thing
imathrowayslc [OP]5 points10m ago
Maybe some were training? Maybe the manager was non coverage, but this is what was deployed when I was in the café (around 11, so peak for Saturday)
1 Ovens 2 Front reg (why? cafe was empty but litteraly one person standing at each reg, maybe training?) 1 DTO 1 DTW 2 Hot Bar 2 On Cold bar (Maybe one was training?) 1 On CS cleaning in the loby.
twirlergirl423 points10m ago
I work in a very high volume cafe store next to a large university. During move-in and finals weeks we can easily make $80k in one week. When we have the people, our plays usually end up being:
1 oven
1 oven support (running food to handoff)
2 register
2 hot bar (1 cafe and 1 mobile orders)
1 cold bar (mobile sometimes flexes to cold bar to help)
1 handoff for mobile orders/iPad
2 customer support (one might flex in to help bar, but usually we run out of things fast enough we need both CS partners)
aaronbdancer4 points10m ago
We ran one today, not training 😬

this happened to me. i got a strawberry acai lemonade with peach and they definitely put passion tea instead of peach - I HATE tea and had to run back in and ask them to remake it
RVZXR1 points10m ago

I can count thank you. Just annoyed with this store. When I picked up a few shifts here the shift running the play told me I couldn’t have a sani bucket out because it was pre close. It was 4:00 pm with a 9:00 pm close. They had dirty rags on every surface. The place was gross.

I am sorry. That's a health code violation, not just a policy issue. It's gross. Keep your stores clean people, that's just the basics.
