Are all stores struggling to keep up with the demand? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I opened and ran the morning shift through peak 4 days this week. Every morning, we had 20 minute waits, sometimes longer. Our store gets cafe, drive thru, and mobile. Our drive times are awful. Our connections scores are horrible. Our managers keep pushing us to improve but we simply can’t keep up.

Have a chat with your SM. Ask them to do a Deep Dive Observation on peak or to work the role of an SSV for a full week during peak and let that SSV work as a barista for the week. It’s hard for SMs to empathize if they don’t know what we’re going through.

I did something similar (but with evenings/nights) with my SM. No more than 30 min after, it’s me and another partner on the floor, the store looks dead, but I’ve got over 15 CBS drinks lined up. My SM acts all surprised and helps me out for the next 20 or so min until that little pop of people was done (more kept coming in). I looked to him and said “every night, all night.”

I love this idea. I feel bad though because my SM is actually a newly promoted ASM. But our SM took a LOA as soon as she came on. So she is super inexperienced and overwhelmed like the rest of us

My SM was an external hire and my store was their first experience at Sbux. I ended up helping my SM with the transition (I’m an unofficial ASM at my store). Unfortunately, with Sbux management you have to learn how to frame everything through corporate’s lens using corporate’s jargon. It’s hard to just have a frank and open conversation with Sbux management, but I’ve found that:

1: relate everything back to the customer experience (they genuinely don’t care about us, in my experience with 4 different DMs over 3 years)

2: corporate jargon is all they can actually understand (especially DMs and up, which is who your SMs have to report to and get approved by)
