Giving drinks to the truck guys(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by nimba-ismycat
Is it ok to give the truck guys a drink when they bring our shipment? I’ve seen other partners at my store ask if they want one and they don’t pay. So today they asked me for a drink and I made it for them. But now I’m wandering if that’s like technically allowed?

Corporate will not die for one free cup of ice with sugar.
_circuts105 points10m ago
I offer everyone who helps out the store a free drink... If theyre nice/chill. Edit: I will say that ive been burnt out on this job for several months and have few fucks left to give about what we're "supposed to do" helping out the people who help us helps me feel better about the job so i do it.

Sounds like the least we can do to treat the people who supply our stores

We did this when I worked at a store, remembered their regular orders too. It’s a nice gesture whether it’s “technically allowed” or not. Corporate won’t go broke over being kind to people who make our lives a little easier.
durqandat40 points10m ago
Technically not allowed (which was the question) but if it’s already common practice at your store then I certainly wouldn’t advise being the one to bring that up
Edit to clarify: I also think it’s a nice thing to do and a needlessly stingy policy
Indica-daddy27 points10m ago
We wast so much in a day. Other underpaid workers deserve a kind gesture. I once had a manager freak out on me for our crew making two grande vanilla bean frappes and all it did was ensure we didn’t give drinks to folx when she was there. Life is short. Don’t be a corporate sell out and help where and when you can. Small gestures are where it’s at.
Necessary_Low93914 points10m ago
First store, I used to give them lemonades. Current store, they just want water or nothing
BiochemistChef11 points10m ago
They just fixed something that would've put us out of operation...yeah, we'd give them a drink.
Funny though, mastrena techs would only get cold brew because they know how bad they get but the cold brew guys (different company contracted to fix them) only got espresso because they know how the lines get...
girlwhoplayswithbugs10 points10m ago
I always treated our truck guys and in turn, we never dealt with the delivery drama we always see other store sadly dealing with.
They were always really kind and never felt “entitled” to it. We just always took care of them.
Available-Theory62286 points10m ago
In Puerto Rico they added a key for “free driver drinks”, lasted like a month
devilsreject49266 points10m ago
My sm told me not to give anyone a drink or use my partner numbers for a friend or else I will be fired, so I assume it's not allowed. That doesn't stop anyone from doing it though.
caitlin_marie_gg5 points10m ago
lol my old store did it all the time
rudebii5 points10m ago
We always did, but wasn’t technically allowed.
megs12883 points10m ago
Allowed? Probably not. Will it create a bond with dpi and make them help you out? Yes..I always offer them a drink
BookDragon19963 points10m ago
Technically probably not however the drink will help their day and incentivize them to come with the proper items your store needs as they’ll remember you and do right by you (supposibly). As long as you’re not giving away 50 drinks a day you shouldn’t get in too much trouble. I will say it does depend a little on your SSV and SM
Inevitable_Emu_2212 points10m ago
It is technically not allowed, “against standard.” Just fyi so you don’t lose your job over something as simple as a kind gesture.
Frand_M_VK2 points10m ago
My SM heard me ask the guy if he wanted something to drink and she said I’m allowed to do that :-(
dr0wsyeuph0ria1 points10m ago
i would just say be careful who sees you do it, one of my previous shifts got a write up for giving a frappuccino as her markout to one of the BRINKS guys.
dcoul271 points10m ago
Technically not allowed but some SM’s are cool with it
lilkiosk1 points10m ago
Oh yeah depends on the ssv - some are a little more strict with that kind of thing, but we’d offer them stuff. I’ve done shots with some of them before! *only the good guys though, we don’t do anything for the ones we don’t like*
graylikesoap1 points10m ago
i honestly cannot say i care if it’s ‘technically allowed’ or not. underpaid workers deserve something for their effort and as another underpaid worker i don’t care about giving it to them. starbucks is a stupid rich company and they’ll be okay with me giving a handful of drinks away for free. i hardly ever use my mark out anyway. (:
shanswen1 points10m ago
yes of course, we used to have a couple of delivery guys that would also buy us food every monday. i also offer drinks to the people that fix our machines and stuff.
AlanTheSalad1 points10m ago
Dude, at my store we dont care. They helped us out and they probably have a long night ahead if them. Could you imagine walking into a store filled to the brim with sweet drinks and coffee and the employees NOT offering you even a water? Thats kinda sad. So yea
TL;DR yes i always give them free drinks. Sometimes he even puts some of the order away for us, we get the same delivery guy consistently.
acnh12221 points10m ago
We give free drinks to so many people. I feel like free drinks are especially a good thing for people who work on things for the store. Especially if it’s something like hot or iced coffee, or iced teas, things we would dump at the end of the night, I would rather it be given to a person than given to the drain goblin.

I do all the time, especially if they’re returning truckers supplying our milk and food. Our milk guy is John and he’s a wonderful guy who knows us by first name!
juju4831 points10m ago
So technically not allowed BUT I used to do it when I worked corporate to keep them on our good side. I used to have some truck guys at one store that would leave the door unlocked etc. I just partner discounted it 🤷🏻♀️
swisschalamet1 points10m ago
Every shift/manager at my store always asks anyone who helps us out (truck drivers, maintenance workers, cash delivery workers, etc) if they want a drink after they help us out. It’s helped us build a really great relationship with some of them!
OnTheEdge86861 points10m ago
We do it all the time, every single time they come. It creates a good relationship with them.
BaristaBabe131 points10m ago
We would always offer the delivery guys and the security people who picked up our money a drink. I feel if they have a problem with it, I could forgo one of my 13 free drinks that day.
Agreeable-Ad72251 points10m ago
Even if someone is just working on maintenance or something I’ll offer them something
becksaroni1 points10m ago
I've always done it. If the people interviewing with no current ties to the company can have a free one, why can't the people bringing our product? Used to give the cintas guys fraps at my old store too. They brought joy to our day, so why not? Idk I'm the type of person to follow everyone's lead when it comes to rule breaking💀 I know we aren't supposed to but if I'm not the first person to do it, screw it💅🏻
lewabwee1 points10m ago
I’ve had managers who were good with it and managers who weren’t. I think it’s not allowed but you also probably won’t get written up or anything.
navkabar1 points10m ago
as long as you wont get in trouble (which you probably wont if you see your coworkers doing it), yeah i always offer to the truck guys, and anybody who comes to work on our POS, electric, whatever. why not
uwumoment1 points10m ago
yes, i’ve made chais for the brinks people so anything is possible lol
jeonzelink1 points10m ago
my manager always gave our truck guys their favorite drinks as a thank you! i’m sure it wouldn’t hurt.

Technically not allowed. Cups of water are fine, they love a nice Trenta cup of water with ice.
EDIT: Not sure why I’m being downvoted. The question was about the policy. What is actually done is different.
writingqueen224 points10m ago
we know who the store manager is 👀
