Short, kids' temp rant: mobile order pickup locations?? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by leoperidot16
My store is a pretty busy drive-thru and cafe location and we get a shitload of mobiles.

Recently I've noticed that some customers will come into the cafe but then tell the person at handoff that they selected drive-thru pickup on the mobile app, or they'll come through the drive-thru to pick up a mobile order but then apologetically say they selected cafe pickup.

I always tell them the same thing: as far as I'm aware, baristas *literally* have no way of knowing that. They're all just mobile orders. The stickers don't tell us. We just put them all on the handoff plane, and then if someone comes through dt we have to go hunting through 5 million drinks at handoff to find theirs. I have never used the Starbucks app, so I didn't even know this was a thing you could choose!

Why would Starbucks give customers that choice, but then not have any way for the baristas to know?? If someone is definitely going to pick up their mobile through dt, I'd want to know that, so we don't have to put it in handoff and then go looking for it. We have a few regulars who we know they're coming through dt so we leave their mobiles there. What if we could do that for everyone?? Plus then you wouldn't have to stall for time on dto when someone asks for a mobile order like "Let me just check if we have that.... what was in the order? an iced latte? okay" and you're turning around every single iced latte to find theirs...

I thought this was going to be much shorter whoops

Short answer: I think it was an attempt to inform them that they could pick it up through the drive through. Why there wasn’t just a little message that says “We have your order! Walk in or drive thru our location and let the barista know which name to look for.” is beyond me

apparently it’s going to eventually be able to be seen by the baristas where they want to pick it up from but again it’s kinda pointless bc the customers will do the whole “oh i picked this but i’m doing the opposite” thing a loy
