what would it take to get hired on starting more than $15/hr? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Glittering_Ebb_5149
what kind of qualities do hiring managers look for when a potential partner asks for more than $15/hour? could there be room to negotiate up to $18 when starting as a cashier/barista?

Haha absolutely not. Unless you get hired in as a shift you will not make more than 15

Starbucks doesn’t negotiate wages with baristas. The starting wage depends on your area - the US minimum is 15, but it’s higher in some areas based on local minimum wage laws and cost of living

Unless you have a higher position or have worked there longer, it won’t happen. It also isn’t fair to the rest of the people working there longer than you. Starbucks wouldn’t allow it anyway.

$15.50 is possible in California, but definitely not $18.

I make close to 18 as a 1yr barista in an expensive part of the Bay Area.

Are you working as a shift lead?
hystericalbirbe 1 points 10m ago
Nope. Barista.
billiesqueen 1 points 9m ago
were you hired at that rate?
ghostymost2 2 points 10m ago
Lmao that’s not how it works

unless you work in an area where cost of living is very high, you will not make more than $15 as a barista and there will be no negotiating. starting wages are set in stone and you receive a raise after one year of being a partner.

I have yet to discover a min wage job where you can negotiate wages. Starting wage is $15, might be slightly different based on location but that’s it.

Become a promising shift lead and maybe you’ll see $20/hr?
