alright, it's time for a barista poll 🤭(self.starbucksbaristas)

if you make something with "extra caramel drizzle" do you just load up extra drizzle on top, or do you line the cup with it, despite not saying "line cup" on the ticket
b__mo185 points10m ago
I give them a bag of caramel and tell them to have a good day! Basically what they want anyway 🤷🏽♀️😉
imathrowayslc48 points10m ago
I had a customer sheepishly tell me “that’s a little too much drizzle” after making a big deal about wanting a lot. I went a bit crazy. There was probably 3 inches in the bottom of a venti iced drink.
ronazdug6 points10m ago
As someone who orders it, i honestly do
0atmilk_l0ver180 points10m ago
i line the cup (comes out pretty thin anyways) as well as adding extra on top. that way they can actually see the ‘extra caramel’ and it lessens the chances of the drink getting sent back. plus, I have yet to hear someone complain about “too much caramel”
desairologist180 points10m ago
If it doesn’t say line the cup it just goes on top, that’s the technical answer and also how I do it
bellamythos33 points10m ago
i do this too, with the exception of regulars (our store has lots of them) who didn’t update their order in the app or who I know want caramel walls.
everyone else though, they can learn to order “correctly” lol. though ftr, when i’m on pos i clarify with customers whether they want the cup lined or just extra on top, and we’ve been reminding all our baristas to do this too
irritablegarlic114 points10m ago
load up the top. if they say extra caramel drizzle when ordering I ask if they want it inside the cup. every starbucks is meant to make everything the same way, that’s why starbucks introduced this button.

THIS
crowhusband [OP]77 points10m ago
personally i line the cup 🏃🏻💨 its how i was trained a month before they added the Line Cup button
PercyGabriel112940 points10m ago
I can definitely agree that before the new button that that is how I was trained and how I trained others. But now that there is a new standard, I do only line the cup if that's what it says. Mobiles especially. With cafe and DT orders, I make sure with who took the order. Also, as a SSV, I coach others to clarify what the customer wants when they order so we can transition to being more consistent with stabdards
nightimevil9 points10m ago
This is probably my favorite answer on this thread so far.
PercyGabriel11294 points10m ago
Thanks!
Spinelise47 points10m ago
I still usually line the cup tbh, I've had maybe one person in 3 years who didn't want me to do so. Like I'll ask when I'm at dto or front, but if someone puts a mobile order or smth then I'm lining it. Had people before who wanted me to remake it because I DIDN'T line the cup.
Buttafly_36013 points10m ago
Exactly, likewise to my comment on here, they got mad tht it was a lot on top and not heavily throughout the cup smh
girlwhoplayswithbugs34 points10m ago
I lined the cup because every time I didn’t, the custys whined that there wasn’t extra caramel. It’s a psychological thing. Make it look like extra and they are happy.
Buttafly_36013 points10m ago
Same!!! I second this as my answer as well💯 this one lady said "I paid for extra caramel and all I get is alot on top?" Ughhh tht was crazy so I start doing the cup as well and loading the top so they can stfu and leaveeee
hbeex9318 points10m ago
On the top. If it's an iced caramel macchiato, I put it between the layers of milk/ice and the espresso shots.
[deleted]3 points10m ago
[deleted]
crowhusband [OP]3 points10m ago
YOOO I do that too
[deleted]13 points10m ago
I line the cup no matter what, I have no time or interest in remaking your venti iced white mocha w 4 pumps of toffee nut, 2 pumps of hazelnut, extra extra EXTRA sweet cream cold foam and extra drizzle because you didn’t know there was a difference, I’m just gonna do it the way I know the average customer wants it
bestowcurse10 points10m ago
Technically, load up the top. But I find that when ppl say extra, they mean line the cup so I default to that.
5962596210 points10m ago
Line the cup so the guest can see the extra caramel. Solves a lot of issues
Buttafly_3601 points10m ago
Periodt💯
Kaywin9 points10m ago
I was taught that extra=line the cup.
venusi_8 points10m ago
lone the cupppp ik they added that button recently but customers get pissed if u don’t line it
1_Just_Trying7 points10m ago
I line the cup and load up the top. People tend not to use the “line the cup w/ caramel” button on POS when people ask for extra caramel (even if they want the caramel on the sides of the cup). We usually just got “extra caramel drizzle.” It also makes it easier for customers to tell that you gave them extra so they complain less.
ittybittybakerkitty7 points10m ago
I line the cup because half my store forgets about that new button
Abject_Ambition_60317 points10m ago
If I remember the extra drizzle I put it on the bottom, if I forget I just load the top
Decent-Marionberry637 points10m ago
I line the cup
NyanBecca6 points10m ago
The first store I worked at said “extra drizzle is lined in the cup” and I’ve never seen baristas not line the cup for extra drizzle. I assumed it was standard.
Edit: this is also how I do it obviously
RepresentativeArm4646 points10m ago
Line the cup
enerjey5 points10m ago
“Extra caramel drizzle” is caramel walls. “Caramel drizzle” is just on top. We feel at my store that the “line the cup” button was introduced mainly for mobile customers to be able to push a button that literally meant caramel walls, since customers don’t know what “extra caramel drizzle” would translate to.
Training resources say extra caramel is 3 rings around the cup by the way, so that it “cascades”. In case anyone cares 😂
Necessary_Low9395 points10m ago
I just line it because that’s the old way
Enkeria925 points10m ago
I always lined the cup. That’s how I was taught though.
peepeepoopaccount5 points10m ago
I line the cup and add on top
miakodank4 points10m ago
Is it new to just do it on top? Becaus the “line the cup” customization just got added so before then I’d consider extra drizzle as around the cup and on top .
Advanced-Grapefruit44 points10m ago
I line the cup, that's how I thought before the new button on POS ever existed. We got the update but the customer didn't. People are going to keep ordering extra Carmel in the cafe (and even on mobile) and if I hand them a cup with no Carmel drizzle on the sides everybody will annoyed.
coffee-and-chillll4 points10m ago
I started back in 2018 before the whole “line cup” option was a thing, so whenever I see “extra caramel drizzle” my automatic response is to line the cup as well as on top and I haven’t encountered any issues with that. In fact I think customers who order extra caramel drizzle expect the cup lined, and just aren’t aware of the new “line cup” modification
Personally, I don’t really get why the “line cup” option was necessary because at both of the stores I’ve been at, it’s quite obvious that “extra” indicates the drizzle to line the cup and on top
In my experience, any customer who wants extra drizzle wants the cup lined, otherwise just loading extra on top and not in the cup looks like there isn’t extra in the drink. If a customer ordered extra drizzle and I only put it on top, I can pretty much guarantee they’d want another drink with the cup lined, which I totally understand considering they asked for *extra* and loading a bunch on top just doesn’t look like extra drizzle. Just my experience though
Walking_Stereotype4 points10m ago
Line the cup. I’ve had too many customers complain about it to not to at this point.
Buttafly_3601 points10m ago
Exactly💯
Number1Barooista4 points10m ago
I like the cup and put the normal amount on top
anilee224 points10m ago
if they say extra caramel drizzle it just gets double the amount of regular caramel drizzle on top
Tacoman433 points10m ago
I line the cup. Not too much unless specified. Had a regular who followed me when I transferred to another store because she liked how much caramel I gave her.
If I forget to line the cup I just give oodles amount on top just so I didn’t waste any product just to like a cup.
Urmomscoochiehairs3 points10m ago
Y’all are hooligans it goes around the cup bc 1 it looks good and 2 bc you’re wrong
crowhusband [OP]2 points10m ago
🙏🏻🙏🏻amen
idleghost233 points10m ago
Line the cup and extra on top lol
jadehernan3 points10m ago
i line the cup and put some on top just to be safe
12nipples2 points10m ago
I line the cup because I now work at a new store and none of the workers there ever hit line the cup, they always just put extra caramel, at my old store we would just clarify using ask me
vidadelbm2 points10m ago
Extra caramel is on 3 rings on the cup and then lining the cup is using a shit ton of caramel and more time consuming no?
IndicationOk43522 points10m ago
Unless I heard my manager wrong she said we do line cup 3x around
Water-is-h2o2 points10m ago
“Line cup caramel” = I line the cup “Ex caramel drizzle” = I put extra on top
Traditional-Emu-14032 points10m ago
Depends on the situation. If it’s some 12 year old who’s clearly in this for sugar, I do both 😂
crowhusband [OP]4 points10m ago
"12 year old who needs sugar" Re: most of the middle age women ordering a crml macchiato 🥲
Sweet-Art21031 points10m ago
at my home store they have us do line cup button for extra caramel but i was told at another store to only use line cup button for a golden cup??
pinkjortz1 points10m ago
If it’s mobile I’ll line the cup, if it’s cafe or drive thru I’ll either be taking the order and asking then, or hunting them down to ask bc I’m Like That as a person
femalehomosapien181 points10m ago
Everyone at my store thinks I put too much extra craneo but the customer love it so 🙈
gametheguy551241 points10m ago
Line cup, every time
Kaluskydrak1 points10m ago
I usually ask if they want to line the cup when they ask for extra to cut the time 🤷🏼♂️ I explain if they don’t it’ll just be extra on top
awesomechief9891 points10m ago
I’m trying to do on top only as a form of consistency
tiredbarista00041 points10m ago
i drizzle the sides and make it pretty :)
Anne_franks_divacup1 points10m ago
The standard used to be line the cup for extra drizzle even before this new button. Thanks tiktok😭
tantelope1 points10m ago
i line the cup
impasse6021 points10m ago
I load that shit on top. If it doesnt say line the cup i wont do it
OakTreeTrash1 points10m ago
I don’t line unless it says line. But when on register I clarify when someone says extra carmel
[deleted]1 points10m ago

insanityizgood131 points10m ago
I line the cup & add a tad more on top. That's what my trainer told me to do, anyway. Though I learned putting "line cup w/caramel" will help your store get more labor hours the other day.
An-Unnamed-Star1 points10m ago
Arnd the cup, it's how I was trained so that's what I do, plus it looks pretty
Alec_Malenfant1 points10m ago
Extra caramel means around the cup unless asked for on top too. Period
Kittywizarrr1 points10m ago
I used to do the line cup method, because that was the easiest way to not overflow the cup
acnh12221 points10m ago
Line the cup, unless I forget until my “one last look at the ticket to check that I did everything they asked and if I didn’t let’s hope it’s nothing I can’t fix” check. If that’s the case, then I put a ton on top.
[deleted]1 points10m ago

Beautiful-Director1 points10m ago
Ill put some on the inside of the cup so it looks pretty dripping down IF its a regular I actually like 😂

_hippocat1 points10m ago
I just put it on top but then other baristas at my store look at me like I’m dumb so idk what the right answer is
swisschalamet1 points10m ago
If it doesn’t say line cup I do extra on top, if it says extra and line up I do extra on top and maybe an extra line around the cup if I’m feeling nice
heyitsmaria241 points10m ago
I used to do it around the cup anyways but got in trouble. So I just only do if it they want it around the cup. I always ask them whenever they are ordering to get them into the habit of the new way.
Assiqtaq-2 points10m ago
I play it on a whim. Sometimes I do extra on top, sometimes extra on bottom, sometimes the sides. Many times what I'll do is just go extra heavy on the edges of the completed drink so it'll run down the sides a bit, if it is iced only though, not blended.
GinasteraBabe-1 points10m ago
I was told "line cup" is supposed to be the new standard for when someone asks for extra drizzle, since that's what they're used to when they ask for extra anyway. So whether I'm on POS or on bar, I line the cup/press the line cup button.
