New dress code (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by taserbabyy
Anyone else a little disappointed? I was hoping for piercing and legging updates. Sorry but none of my baristas are gonna be caught dead in jeggings. I thought it was just going to be a little more than allowing colors and white shoes 🫠
Ordinary-Theory-8289 259 points 10m ago
Leggings are never going to be allowed. It’s not an aesthetic thing it’s a safety thing
dandoon1105 13 points 10m ago
safety? how so
claretamazon 214 points 10m ago
Leggings are thin and when dealing with very hot liquids and bleach cleaners they may as well not be there = burns/chemical burns. Plus anything sharp will rip through them like butter.
Ordinary-Theory-8289 150 points 10m ago
Yeah this is beyond Starbucks. I’ve never worked in any food service spot in my 13 years in the field that allowed leggings. And even though it’s not an aesthetic thing, it really doesn’t look great. Leggings are workout clothes, not work clothes lol
canidieyet_ 109 points 10m ago
not to mention some brands are incredibly thin. i don’t want to see my coworkers’ underwear
heymisssarah 11 points 10m ago
The only food place i've been allowed to wear leggings was a cookie place but all i did was roll dough and package them. BOH had to wear jeans
Veldora12 74 points 10m ago
and unlike bare skin, the liquid is absorbed and can't just be wiped off
IOnlyhave5_i_s 19 points 10m ago
Guess why Hooters waitresses have to wear pantyhose under their shorts………

Because of pubic hair. Lol. No one wants to think of the bad side to things. But, for sure no one wants there skin to burn off.
dlcksuck 9 points 10m ago
But aren’t jeggings essentially the same thing?
nikkicarter1111 9 points 10m ago
imo yes, and I wouldn't wear either to work. If I spill hot coffee on my leg, I want something that will semi-protect my skin, not melt to it like a lot of elastic fabrics will.
Danielitics04 5 points 10m ago
Yeah agreed. One of the hooks ripped a hole right through my khaki pants
[deleted] 1 points 10m ago
[deleted]
Outrageous_Sorbet_72 112 points 10m ago
my trainer told me she had a girl wearing leggings and she spilled hot water on herself. they had to surgically remove the leggings because they melted to her skin.
italyphoenix 22 points 10m ago
I was wearing leggings at the start of Covid and spilled top ramen water on my leg, my leggings literally fused to my skin and I have a huge scar on my calf from where I had to actually RIP the boiling skin off. Fun times, scar still super apparent 2 years later
tittywhipp 12 points 10m ago
This is super unrelated to work. But in roller derby we have women that have to have their textured tights surgically removed
Impossible-Degree-52 1 points 10m ago
Yep in derby if people actually try to wear fish nets that shit gets embedded in your skin
Torirock10 12 points 10m ago
😟
Urmomscoochiehairs 1 points 10m ago
Hot
MountainGoat999 6 points 10m ago
Quite literally
smallmeade 0 points 10m ago
Omgg. This is why it's important to immediately remove clothing and soak skin in lukewarm water. If I got burned like that at work I would instantly be naked. Anything to save my skin lol
bekkywitdagoodhair 1 points 10m ago
I kind of get where you’re coming from, but my mom once dropped a pot of boiling spaghetti on her foot, she had socks on. The socks absorbed the liquid and retained the heat, making the burn worse than it could’ve been. So based on that experience, I’d think that having something like workout leggings to work would be better for safety as they’re designed not to retain sweat/water as easily as other fabrics/materials.

IMO, they don’t allow leggings because if they allow leggings, that means everyone gets to wear leggings, including men. And while Starbucks is kind of progressive, I don’t think they’d go for that tbh. They’d face a lot of backlash I feel, and they don’t wanna risk it.

They are allowed for pregnant people so I don't really understand that 😂
frappeyourmom 1 points 10m ago
Yeah, I’ve never understood that except according to my friends who’ve been pregnant it’s super hard to find comfortable clothes while pregnant that aren’t made of lycra or spandex.
catpants243 1 points 10m ago
I am pregnant and I totally relate but also it's funny that they're like "SAFETY" but also your pregnant. I'm grateful but I'm gonna be pissed if I burn my skin off.
diotheleo 104 points 10m ago
genuinely upset about no change for piercings, even just allowing one more would do a lot for a lot of us bc ive got three and only one is easily hidden but. it was too much to hope for ig
friendlySkeletor 69 points 10m ago
Half the reason i still wear a mask is bc im not gonna take out my piercings for work.
diotheleo 19 points 10m ago
yeah same!! it just isnt worth the hassle
friendlySkeletor 41 points 10m ago
That plus its just on principle for me. Starbucks isn't paying me nearly enough to pull out my piercings every day.
A-Tacolypse 14 points 10m ago
This is me right here! I have eyebrow, lip and tongue so I wear the mask to have the only one showing be the eyebrow.
ScarletNebula25 3 points 10m ago
This whole piercings thing is new to me. I don't have any know so many people who have them. Not just at my store. All over Fort Worth and bits of Texas. That's just what I've seen in person.
rtsneedshelp 1 points 10m ago
Allegedly we aren’t allowed to use masks to cover piercings, though I don’t see how that’s enforceable at all lol
brookecarrillo 3 points 10m ago
I have both sides of my nose pierced, a septum piercing , and the middle of my lip pierced & im covered in tattoos. Hands, fingers, arms. I’ve never been told anything idk if all of that is allowed tbh. to me the dress code is dumb. Some people get away with wearing certain clothes and shoes. But others don’t. Like it’s 2022, who cares as long as it’s not offensive, and too revealing.. why can’t we just wear what we want.
FrappyHourVeteran 2 points 10m ago
Honestly a big motivation of me quitting was that I wanted another piercing and my store manager was very by the book.
melkorarose 1 points 10m ago
When I got hired my SM said only one piercing on the face, which I have, but she basically suggested she would turn a blind eye if I got more. Most of the baristas at my store have 2/3 piercings, mostly on the nose. Though, my SM kinda sucks as a manager so she likely hasn't even noticed anyone's piercings..
juiceyluicy 100 points 10m ago
In the update in June they said they would update clothing, piercings, and tattoos. So, im really disappointed that the piercing and tattoo updates they also promised weren’t given.
Inevitable_Emu_221 54 points 10m ago
It absolutely pissed me off to see the watches & nail polish on the front of the weekly update like they allow them now. Deception!
juiceyluicy 9 points 10m ago
Does it seriously? I won’t work/see it until Wednesday.
awesomechief989 4 points 10m ago
I think they meant there were lil pictures of them, but if you read it it actually says they’re still not allowed
Inevitable_Emu_221 2 points 10m ago
All the things still not allowed were highlighted. Upon first glance I thought it was a good thing :(
witcheselementality 48 points 10m ago
Not that I was expecting nail polish, but I thought it was interesting that in the beginning of the update, it said "We heard your concerns about tattoos, piercings and nail polish!" But didn't change anything about tattoos, piercings, or nail polish

I got really excited when I started reading it, just to be disappointed
dakokopuffs 23 points 10m ago
this!!! why even mention it. they're literally saying they know we're upset about it but they just don't care.
mls91314 16 points 10m ago
The company’s 2 favorite lines: “ we understand your frustration” and “we heard your concerns”

BS
[deleted] 4 points 10m ago
[deleted]
CoffeeChesirecat 15 points 10m ago
I had to read that about 7 times only to be disappointed as well.
whhwkstk 40 points 10m ago
I waited 3 months to finally wear my piercings as i wanted (hoops and septum down) bc my sm is a hater of them but she allows watches 🤕 starbucks got the only hopes i had left for this job killed.
aee78 57 points 10m ago
But watches are a health code thing. You need to wash up to mid forearm.
And most health inspectors will ding you if someone has a watch on.
[deleted] 1 points 10m ago
[deleted]
Ordinary-Theory-8289 27 points 10m ago
Watches are not allowed by the FDA because you can’t wash your hands properly…
Right-Individual-134 39 points 10m ago
Can someone share the new dress code? My store doesn't have it yet
Liberalmuffin 115 points 10m ago
updates:
- any color shirts
- JEGGINGS (jean leggings) are now allowed
- white shoes now allowed
- crewneck sweaters now allowed
iservemy7kings 79 points 10m ago
Crewnecks weren't allowed before?
omogal123 27 points 10m ago
Wow I’ve been wearing this but jeggings???!!
ProfessorSalt413 11 points 10m ago
I’ve been wearing white shoes for 9 months now oops 😬 at least I never got in trouble for it
LoreMasterJack 9 points 10m ago
Does any color shirts mean I can wear button downs of any color?! 👚
SmittyComic 17 points 10m ago
any "muted" color.

::Edit::
Downvote me all you want, but it says no bright colors...

the definition of a non-bright color is muted.
ayakowantsmemes 27 points 10m ago
I think it said muted pattern/ no graphics not muted colors necessarily
turmoildream 2 points 10m ago
The new dress code video has someone wearing a pink shirt
alexkerie 4 points 10m ago
i’ve been wearing jeggings for nearly two years now but to be fair, american eagle does a pretty good job making them look like real jeans
strawberry_sprite_ 3 points 10m ago
i’ve been wearing white shoes for almost two years and not one person has said anything about them 😂
ittybittybakerkitty 12 points 10m ago
Same I'm on vacation, I'd like to know what I'm coming back to
Right-Individual-134 22 points 10m ago
Oh mine is bcuz we're a union 🤠
bande325 6 points 10m ago
Lead the charge!!! Go union go!
italyphoenix 3 points 10m ago
How do you like it so far!? Hoping eventually mine starts considering it
EllaCgot2P 27 points 10m ago
Where can we find the new dress code? Not going into work for two days and am curious!
MasterMischievous 0 points 10m ago
It’s on the weekly update if you login to partner hub
YdubsTheFirst 2 points 10m ago
you can only access the weekly update and other secure documents from store devices afaik
ImportantWeekend 25 points 10m ago
They say that monitoring what face and neck tattoos are appropriate would be too difficult, but like, isn’t that much easier than monitoring other visible tattoos? I feel like if I pulled up to work with the word “FUCK” tattooed on my face, it wouldn’t be too hard to point it out as not work appropriate. Just say it’s too taboo instead of trying to make up a half assed excuse
taserbabyy [OP] 13 points 10m ago
Yes! I understand the things that are genuinely FDA/safety reasons. But if they cared so much about partners being able to express themselves piercings wouldn’t be an issue in the first place. It’s obvious they just want to keep a certain ‘look’
HiiAlberta 23 points 10m ago
You know im about to roll up in jeggings lmao
PeopleInMyHead 1 points 10m ago
Thank you for the laugh after a rough shift.
Unbearablebarista 20 points 10m ago
What trips me out is that jeggings often look like pants- I own some from American Eagle that are khaki and they were basically skinny jeans. So technically everyone could wear them already? Seemed weird to add that stipulation. White shoes are cool but they will get so dirty so quickly. Also muted patterns are so lame, like they couldn’t have allowed a little more flexibility there?
Vilali 3 points 10m ago
I really want to make a shirt that says, "Muted" all nicely in a pattern.
jakhei 13 points 10m ago
y’all stores actually enforce the dress code..? i’m so sorry
taserbabyy [OP] 7 points 10m ago
my store is starting to crack down pretty hard on it 😭
Vilali 1 points 10m ago
One of my SSV's has some sort of complex and enforces the most ridiculous things but then breaks them himself. A coworker took a 12 minute break on accident and he FLIPPED but sits in the back and plays games on his phone with his partner most of his shift.
smarma_ 12 points 10m ago
Why in the world would anyone want to wear white shoes there?
RudeEstimate2245 7 points 10m ago
I do because they were the comfy shoes I had at the time but now I like the stains 😂🤦🏻‍♀️
I like distressed things though
smarma_ 4 points 10m ago
That’s fair! I remember being able to see stains even on my black shoes lol
RudeEstimate2245 3 points 10m ago
Yeah lol they're just strictly work shoes at that point 💀😭
canidieyet_ 10 points 10m ago
I am. seems like patterns are still restricted which is ass because I don’t own plain tshirts…and finding some is next level impossible
Ordinary-Theory-8289 53 points 10m ago
Finding a plain T-shirt is impossible? Have you tried….any place that sells clothes? Lol
canidieyet_ -1 points 10m ago
Yeah but I’m not paying $30 for a plain shirt. Or they’re all cropped. Or they’re all see through…because women’s clothing is dumb

Shopping in the mens section is a bust too. Like I said in the other comment, any plain shirts I do find either come in packs of multiples or they simply don’t fit. Not to mention, it’s usually muted colors (or those bright ass neon shirts). 90% of my clothes are muted colors as is, if I’m going to buy clothes I’m not going to buy yet another plain black, grey, (dark) blue, etc t-shirt.
insertusernameplease 19 points 10m ago
Target has some decent plain womens shirts in the $5-8 range. It’s basically all I wear nowadays lmao
Best_Strain3133 2 points 10m ago
I like to thrift shop. All my work clothes come from thift shops, old navy, and maurices. I wear a lot of dresses tho.
garlickbread 2 points 10m ago
Hey i had trouble finding plain shirts too. I got one of those packs of five from walmart, the brand is Hanes. Theyre sold as men's shirts but honestly my smalls hug me pretty comfortably. They arent baggy or loose, theyre also comfortable enough to use as sleep shirts.
OneRoseDark 25 points 10m ago
wut. men's section at friggin Walmart.
canidieyet_ -12 points 10m ago
lol which walmart you shop at? all the ones by me literally only have the plain shirts that come in packs of 5…or they just don’t fit me (since men & womens clothing is completely different). otherwise they’re all graphics or dress shirts.
Indica-daddy 1 points 10m ago
I hear you! Not every store carries the same inventory, and people forget that. If it’s in your budget, even Shein has plain cotton shirts, these days! Good luck, friend.
devilsreject4926 13 points 10m ago
Have you never been in a store?
canidieyet_ -4 points 10m ago
That sells anything other than plain black, gray, dark blue, white, red etc? Then no. I already own so many of those colors and I’m not going to buy even more lol
devilsreject4926 9 points 10m ago
I don't see the problem then? Sounds like you have plenty of clothes already.
canidieyet_ 0 points 10m ago
I just want some variety in my work clothes now that the dress code is more relaxed so I’m not wearing the same few shirts 🤷‍♀️ but ig that’s too much to ask for lmao
chef_vet 6 points 10m ago
Walmart and tatget both have an entire lil display of solid color shirts. Most are within dress code colors. And they are like $5-7.
canidieyet_ -1 points 10m ago
I only ever see striped shirts at walmart. Plain shirts usually consist of crop tops or tanks 😃
nikkicarter1111 5 points 10m ago
I highly recommend the brands universal thread and a new day at Target! I shop both men's and women's of those brands and they tend to have a nice selection of solid color t-shirts that aren't in a pack of 4 or 5.

For non work they also have some cheap tank tops, I got my tanks I work out in for $4 each, and I've got 3 colors!
canidieyet_ 2 points 10m ago
Theirs are really nice! I have to check back, they’ve been out of a lot of the plain ones recently
nikkicarter1111 1 points 10m ago
Oh, bummer!
I've had better success online. Once I figured out my size I just set up a price alert on their website to email me when my size in a color I want goes on clearance.
canidieyet_ 1 points 10m ago
I feel like it’s because a lot of people were doing last minute school shopping but hopefully they’ll have more back soon
acnh1222 4 points 10m ago
I have two plain shirts that I got from Old Navy that are my go-to work shirts. They are loose enough to not be restricting but also not too flowy to be a safety hazard, plus it’s made with a cooling fabric so you don’t overheat.

Yes, it was from the sleep section. Yes, it’s technically a pajama top. But it looks like any other plain shirt, no one believes me when I tell them.
vanney223 1 points 10m ago
ive just bought packs of like 5-10 for like $20 on amazon
RyusuiJL 1 points 10m ago
I've had luck with single colored shirts at Target, Old Navy, and American Eagle. I'm a guy, but I am pretty sure I also saw similar shirts for women at all 3. American Eagle specifically. They tend to do sales on their tees every now and then, also. And in colors more than the usual. Pink, light blues, greens, etc.
CoffeeChesirecat 1 points 10m ago
I just bought a bunch of v necks on Walmart clearance for about $3 each

Edit: I'm a female for reference
StatexfCrisis 0 points 10m ago
try pacsun!! either look up basics or scoop t-shirts
Mea-fae_Owl73 0 points 10m ago
Walmart! $5-$9
Organic-Bluejay-69 9 points 10m ago
I’ve worn white shoes for a whole year, was never told anything 💀
LoreMasterJack 8 points 10m ago
Where are you guys seeing this new dress code? I can’t find it online.
Imaginarybluntallday 9 points 10m ago
Weekly update
mama_bibi 7 points 10m ago
Leggings should be aloud. I'm sorry buy im thick below the waisted. Jeans are restrictive af. I wana be able to move comfortably. I get if like they are worn out and your undies are showing through your pants but like...let my body breathe please!
ThatOtherGuyTPM 2 points 10m ago
That’s not why leggings aren’t allowed. They’re a safety risk when regularly dealing with hot liquids.
mama_bibi 1 points 10m ago
Im saying...so is any piece of fabric that sits on your skin long enough to burn. I had to rip my shoes off to get my sock off before because it was just consistently burning since it was soaked. My body. My risk.
ThatOtherGuyTPM 1 points 10m ago
That’s a fair take, but you’ll never get any company to agree while liability laws exist. Injury on the job costs companies money, and this one is way up there, cost-wise. There’s a reason this policy exists all over food service, and it’s mostly based in liability payments.
mama_bibi 1 points 10m ago
Sooooo what your saying is I can sue them when my shirt sticks to me and I get burnt 😉 mentally filed away

All jokes aside though. I get why it's a policy, I would just personally prefer to wear leggings and be comfortable. I also wouldn't try and sue if I got burnt.

They should just make us sign waivers
Best_Strain3133 1 points 10m ago
You can wear them under skirts or dresses. That's what I do.
mama_bibi 1 points 10m ago
Yea im just not a skirt/dress person unless it's a wedding. But I might start
blasianbarbie 6 points 10m ago
it’s also stupid that their whole reasoning for only one piercing was bc they dont want shifts or sm’s to have to double check everyones face everyday like some stores dont already do that 🙃
zeewur 5 points 10m ago
I'm a former partner (left in 2020), but I wore AE Jeggings to work every day for yearssssssss. I needed that good stretch at work and honestly I feel like most of them look like regular denim, never once had a problem with management.
geekgurl81 5 points 10m ago
I’m disappointed that unionized employees are specifically excluded, that’s why I’m disappointed. Happy to wear a watch and nail polish, don’t really care about the clothes specifically.
Indica-daddy 17 points 10m ago
Watches and nail polish are health code violations—it’s not about aesthetic, it’s about handling things that go into people’s bodies.
Starbucks-sm 3 points 10m ago
This has changed, depending on where you are. A lot of places now allow "one wrist adornment," which allows for a watch. I never understood how anyone could run a shift without a watch to begin with, so I was thrilled with that one for breaks. with.
geekgurl81 -13 points 10m ago
I know. I really don’t care about any of it, but you completely missed the actual point of my comment.
GinasteraBabe 4 points 10m ago
I was honestly hoping for a nail polish update. It should go by state-by-state regulation ☹️
Danielitics04 4 points 10m ago
Funny thing is, so many baristas I work with have more than 1 facial piercing and no one says anything. I think piercings are the least of anyone's worries
watched17 4 points 10m ago
I’d like to be able to wear something besides jeans like slacks or cargo pants but that’s unreasonable ig.
PauseAccording20 28 points 10m ago
I’m pretty sure you can wear slacks or cargo pants!
Ordinary-Theory-8289 18 points 10m ago
Since when can’t you wear slacks?
watched17 -1 points 10m ago
I was told jeans only
Ordinary-Theory-8289 25 points 10m ago
That not right at all did you actually read it? Skirts dresses pants jeans khakis shorts are all fine
nikkicarter1111 21 points 10m ago
You were definitely told wrong!
Mea-fae_Owl73 11 points 10m ago
You can totally wear those. In fact those were dress code standards before adding jeans.
devilsreject4926 10 points 10m ago
I've been wearing cargo pants for ages
[deleted] 1 points 10m ago
[deleted]
juneefa 3 points 10m ago
Not really “dress code” related, but I used to work for Gap (kids store to be specific), and they sell khakis with Teflon in them essentially making them waterproof. I wish Starbucks would make the aprons out of the same materials- that stuff was magic! Water based spills just bead up and fall right off instead of soaking in.
CoffeeChesirecat 3 points 10m ago
What's wrong with jeggings????

Tbh, I've been wearing them this whole time and have never been told off for it.
taserbabyy [OP] 3 points 10m ago
Nothing wrong with them! They aren’t necessarily ‘trendy’ and my teenage baristas wouldn’t be caught dead in them. I’ll wear the hell out of some jeggings though
EternalRose98 2 points 10m ago
I just read further up the thread that what’s wrong with them is that they’ll fuse to your skin if you drop a boiling hot liquid on them
CoffeeChesirecat 2 points 10m ago
Oh, yes, ouch! I meant style-wise, but I'm an elder millennial 😅

The ones I wear are the same thickness as regular jeans but stretchy. Who wants to wear jeans at 4am?
EternalRose98 2 points 10m ago
I hate jeans and I refuse to work in them LOL I wear thick polyester pants 😅
CoffeeChesirecat 1 points 10m ago
I don't feel old until stuff like this comes up lol. I found some cheap ones that look just like jeans and are functional. Sometimes I can't keep the mom jeans up or just want something stretchy. If we can't have nails, at least we can have jeggings.
angelsins 2 points 9m ago
Suuuuper disappointed the piercings update wasn't real, I'm just happy our new SM hasn't decided it's an issue.

As for the jeggings, all they really mean is right skinny jeans, they don't mean leggings that look like jeans, and honestly, everyone has been wearing those for ages? And now all the younger partners wear baggy jeans anyways, so it's a little out of touch, too.
throwaway39830116 2 points 10m ago
My store said there isn’t a dress code update for us specifically so uhhh 😵‍💫
badatlife15 13 points 10m ago
If you’re a union store or in the process of unionizing the changes don’t apply, they will work that out in your negotiations/will need to be negotiated
throwaway39830116 4 points 10m ago
That’s infuriating lol. We’re already having issues with getting our pay raise applied 🫠
badatlife15 5 points 10m ago
Ugh that’s frustrating. I saw another post and realized I’m probably being extremely naive because I was hoping that it just meant the union stores would have a chance to negotiate for an even better dress code, but it sounds like Starbucks is maybe doing whatever they can to make it a negative thing. I wish you luck!!
pleasedontusemyname 1 points 9m ago
Question — can I wear camo pants??
taserbabyy [OP] 1 points 9m ago
Not 100% sure but I don’t see why not as long as they’re in the standard colors (so like, not green camo)
HeartsAnnArrows 1 points 9m ago
Not updating the tattoo and piercing policy is just racist. And very Christian of them.
Petty_Pentagon606 1 points 10m ago
I haven’t worked all week did this go into effect immediately?
genji2056 1 points 10m ago
Best investment I've ever made was khaki joggers; so long as I tucked in the drawstrings, no one noticed.
HeartsAnnArrows 1 points 9m ago
If it’s got pockets it’s pants (; drawstring could be an accessibility feature! I even have jeans that are draw string only!
nightimevil 1 points 10m ago
I'm extremely disappointed about the facial piercings, because I only wear a mask to hide mine. My coworkers have seen my face and don't care, but it's still stupid in general. I mean, one of my shifts has two nose piercings, so we agree that it's dumb.

I also think that the neck and face tattoos rule should be changed. As long as it isn't offense, there should be zero issue. If we're supposed to be progressive in terms of employees expressive themselves, then there needs to be a change. Piercings and tattoos are fine. They are forms of enhancing features you already love about yourself.
HeartsAnnArrows 2 points 9m ago
Alsooooo like there’s lots of cultural facial tattoos and piercings like why the frack do they have to go out of their way to just fucking exist. Also this rule directly violates a tst tenant so good luck Starbucks.
MemesandSpeech 1 points 10m ago
Wait, y'all follow dress code? I have a shift who always wears shorts above her knees, and no one says anything...
taserbabyy [OP] 4 points 10m ago
Shorts can be 4 inches above the knee I think. But yeah my store cracked down on it pretty hard a few months back
Toughboyedit 1 points 10m ago
Does anyone know if this also/will apply to Canadian partners as well?
vertigo00o 1 points 10m ago
what is the new dress code?
Tuuuucc 1 points 10m ago
I've been wearing leggings everyday for over a year and have not had anything said to me about them, but I've been told not to wear a yellow hat (I couldn't find my other hat).
sh3nan1gans_ 1 points 10m ago
What’s the update ? I haven’t been to work in a week and a half
[deleted] 1 points 10m ago
[removed]
poulson107 -9 points 10m ago
I don't think you are trying to look at the bigger picture, one of Starbucks reasons for being so widely popular is it's sense of semi-professional look. Sure the regulars walking in probably aren't going to mind a neck tattoo or a few extra piercings but others that don't know the partners might. It is a little difficult to make consistent regular as is, and the more regulars a store has the more money a store makes, which in turn gives a store more operating hours, meaning partners can be scheduled more and make more money. This would also increase the chance of raises or promotion opportunities.
That is one of the main reasons for the dress code.
uwumoment 1 points 10m ago
boooo this guy stinks
ladiah19 -9 points 10m ago
I just don’t like how they still don’t allow watches. They say “health violation” but i think it’s because they want us to not look at the time and “be in the moment “

No, it's something health inspectors look for, it's not a starbucks-specific rule. It's impossible to wash your hands properly if wearing a watch. And just think about how nasty the backside of a watch gets over time!

Someone else said they wear a watch around the neck strap of their apron, maybe ask your manager if they'd be OK with that?
ladiah19 1 points 10m ago
I mean they are but it’s impossible to use the watch for stuff like heart rate blood pressure steps etc if it’s on the apron
garlickbread 3 points 10m ago
My watch still meassures my steps when i attach it to my apron strap.
chewchainz 2 points 10m ago
Why do you need to know your hr or bp while working? Are you constantly brady/tachy or hypo/hyper that it affects your work?
ladiah19 1 points 10m ago
I mean it’s literally the only reason I got the watch. I get anxious sometimes and it helps me breathe

153×××× here. I really don't understand the watch thing. I used to wear a waterproof sport watch when I was with the company before. Now I wear an older FitBit, I attach it to my apron. And fuck you before I remove my wedding ring.

LITERALLLT are we kidding. Jeggings but no leggings?? No extra facial piercing? No nails. But yay pink shirts if we want
nikkicarter1111 22 points 10m ago
Nails are an FDA thing, it's a food safety violation. Yes, that rule is based on an old ass study before gel manicures were a thing, but it's still not something Starbucks can change.
Leggings are a similar issue, it has to do with safety, same as open toed shoes. If something hot spills on you jeans hypothetically protect you better than leggings. Will jeggings lessen a burn? Probably not, but that's the reason leggings aren't allowed at basically any food service location.

Facial piercings absolutely should be allowed and it's so stupid that they aren't. I had a lot of partners that were super psyched about the masks because they could actually have their piercings in behind the mask.

Even without a mask, you won't catch me dress coding that shit lmao it's like tattoos, it's not gonna fall out of your face into a drink or anything, why is it my business?
SomeBewitchery 3 points 10m ago
They can change it by enforcing gloves and providing thicker gloves/letting us use the vinyl gloves for food prep. They just don't want to struggle to enforce it.
chexsmix96 5 points 10m ago
You’re already allowed to do that. If you want your nails painted you have to wear gloves but it’s allowed. Ive had plenty of coworkers that have done that.
SomeBewitchery 7 points 10m ago
You are allowed to do it by FDA policy, not Starbucks standards. It's in the Handbook.
nikkicarter1111 1 points 10m ago
You're allowed to do that in some states! In CA you can, iirc in WA you cannot.
SomeBewitchery 1 points 10m ago
Doubly strange as I've been sent home in CA for it before, gloves or no. Sounds more like it's inconsistency in enforcement and less by area now.

regular leggings are a safety hazard

Was so confused about the watch
I wear mine anyway
Dietdoctorgender 17 points 10m ago
The people at my store that have watches secure them to the neck strap of their apron
Torirock10 10 points 10m ago
that’s a health code violation

Is there an update on watches?
krystaflores 15 points 10m ago
There won’t be sadly :( it’s against the food safety code 😞 it’s just up to your manager to decide to care or not
cookiemonstah87 3 points 10m ago
And the health inspector!

No watches or bracelets is an OSAH thing
