I enjoy the job itself but I hate my store (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Enough-Reaction5920
I’ve only been working here a couple months and I feel like I should’ve applied to a different store. It’s so much more chaotic than it should be, mostly due to petty coworker drama and (lack of) management. The job itself is honestly not bad and I do like the pace, but the environment is draining.

There are some shifts that are good, it depends on who’s working though and overall it’s pretty rough. Lots of talking shit about other coworkers, no consistency with standards, most days there’s little to no communication.

Do I have any options for transfer or do I need to stick it out for longer

Me too, honestly. With my store, I feel like things need to be hyperactive and there needs to be almost a party atmosphere just to get some people to even do anything. So let's pretend that you decided to stay at your store, try to stick things out. If you have the fortitude and discipline to play the long game, you can learn a thing or two from being in those environments, but it does wear on you. Having been in a similar store for a few years, I can say I definitely have a thicker skin when it comes to interpersonal conflict and more demanding if not outright insane people. I also identify to the photos of Obama on his first and last days of office a little too much.

If that's not from you, you have two options: the first is scout out some of your sister stores and see how things are there. Keep an eye out for borrowed partner shifts in said stores, that'll give you a better idea of how things are there. Stay on as best of terms with your SM if you have one and they're not a ghost, they're usually your first line of defense when it comes to other stores and if you do transfer, they'll have to approve it.

Your other option is to jump ship and try another chain or a more independent place. Some people have done this and are grateful for the change (mostly to indie shops), but there is less traffic and of course less pay.

If you have any questions or just wanna vent, feel free to DM me.

I feel the same way about mine sometimes. Been here almost a year now and I'm constantly feeling dread about walking in to work sometimes. :/ I'm sorry that you're going through this! Google says you have to be working there at least 3 months? Not sure how valid that is.

The dread is exactly what I feel too! I might try to transfer when I can, luckily there are a lot of stores around where I am. I hope your store gets better, it’s honestly so stressful to hate work
