I DON'T WANT TO BE ON BAR! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MemesandSpeech
I don't want to be on register, I don't want to be on CS, I don't want to restock, I don't want to do warming, etc.

THEN THIS AIN'T THE JOB FOR YOU! WHY YOU SIGNED UP FOR THIS JOB IF YOU SEEN THE STUFF WE HAVE / GO THROUGH, EVERYDAY!?

This might be a good time to have some compassion for your fellow partners. Someone might be asking not to be on a specific position because they're sore and could injure themselves, or because they're feeling unwell in some capacity and trying to be able to stay healthy enough to work the remainder of their shifts before they have days off to properly rest and recover.

No it's not targeting towards them, it's to the people who constantly complain and want to avoid work just cause.

I think we are at a difference of opinion here because there really isn't a "just because I don't want to" theres always some underlying root to it whether its shared with you or not.

True cause the most I be hearing is some of my coworkers be on support and be like "I'm tired, I don't want to be here" everyday and they will dissappear and will be active when a shift Is near. When not...they walk away for etc long and leave me alone to do all the positions

I have 2 baristas at my store like this. But instead they don’t say anything at all. If they’re put on customer support, they’ll do one cycle (poorly) and then stand around and talk until they’re given a different role. And it’s not because of lack of training. We’ve trained them thoroughly and we always have resources for how to do customer support. But they just don’t want to. It is annoying though, I feel your pain.

You need to express this to your SM. At no point should they be leaving you to do it all alone.

Based off of your previous posts you lack empathy and need to chill the fuck out. Sorry you aren’t a shift but “This ain’t the job for you”

While people who complain about basic responsibilities on here can be annoying at times, all of you who have been posting pissy little screeds like this have been the most tiresome people on this sub lately. Calm down. Take a chill pill. Stop having heart palpitations. Lol

We had a few like this but thankfully most have quit.
I am an SSV and my crew generally loves my shifts because I try to not stick everyone in one position and take into account peoples preferences.
We do have a few who bitch about whatever position. I will even ask them what position they want and they will still bitch about everything.

Some people are just unhappy people though and that spills over into their work life

yeah i get it . but other times i can understand why someone doesn’t want to do a position such as they’re injured or they get overwhelmed .

Exactly. Why put someone who is fantastic at and loves warming on bar (a position they are actively uncomfortable in)? I get rotating like that for newer baristas - but in my case we have a 15 year partner at my store who loves reg/oven and really hates bar & a 12 year partner who loves bar and doesn’t do anything else. It works out great for us

i get this but at the same time sometimes people just don’t have the mental capacity to do something they can’t handle/don’t want to do. not all the time of course but i completely understand sometimes requesting NOT to do something as long as it isn’t all the time

Who wants to be on warming? It’s terrible. I hated warming most.

Bro why would I set myself up to fail? If i know I can throw down on bar, but I have to do window when my social anxiety is already at a 10, why wouldn't I try to make this play as smooth as possible? A closed mouth don't get fed. And on the flip side, before my medical leave I had severe back pain flare ups. If I'm assigned bar in the middle of a flare up, but i know i can do dto to get us down to that sweet 39 seconds, why wouldn't I advocate for myself?

Communication and empathy are the 2 greatest qualities in a manager and as a team in general. Seems like you don't have empathy and you don't want them to communicate so maybe that's why you're not a shift. You're frustrating your own self there, bud.

totally understand why some ppl would ask to not be on a certain position esp if they’re on it ALL the time, but if it does become a pattern and they’re bitchy about it (i have a coworker who acts like this all the time…) then yup it rlly is not the job for them, we can’t always be on one position and we can’t just refuse other positions we don’t like. some days you’re gonna have to be on it and that’s that.
