Experience with foot/other injuries that require rest or special footwear at Starbucks? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by caitalonas
I believe the stress “reaction” in my foot has finally progressed to a full blown stress fracture. Working on the floor, even with the mats down, is painful and any time when I’m working somewhere without the fatigue mats makes it 10x worse. I’m worried any slip or wrong step could lead to a full blown fracture too.

I’m just curious as to what happened for other partners when you’ve had an injury like this; did you have to take a leave or were you able to figure out a way to work? I can’t really afford not working especially because I also have to get my impacted wisdom teeth removed within the next couple of months 😅

Ugh, I’m so sorry you’re going through this! I’ve dislocated both knees and sprained my right ankle three times, broken my left one in two different places. I was lucky that none of mine happened when at Starbucks, but the job I was working at the time made me come back a week post surgery. I still have to wear braces on my ankle during cold months because I have screws. My store is super kind and accommodating, to injuries and I didn’t even put paperwork in for accommodations. But, it sounds like doing that might benefit you! I would contact Sedgwick and begin the paperwork for workplace accommodations. A coworker just had to put some in for a hand injury and it did take a second. If you need guidance with that, I can have her relay some tips for you!

i would contact sedgwick. you’re not going to heal a stress-related injury by constantly adding more stress to it. rest is important in healing.
