Tips For Customer Support Role(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Rugerdawg_H2O
Ok so, I just started working at a local starbucks and I wanna have a better grasp on what I’m doing. My trainer is great and said that we’re going to be doing customer support later this week. I’ve seen my partners doing it, but they have such a natural flow; it’s like they just know what needs to be done without even looking. I understand they’ve done it for awhile, but I have a minor idea of what to do. I don’t wanna make a fool of myself by mindlessly walking around the kitchen, so what are some key things to look for while working this role? If I’m overthinking, let me know too.

There is a cycle and task list to follow! Your trainer will go over the brewing cycle, cafe checks, cycle tasks, station restocks, and other CS Responsibilities

Ok that’s even more reassuring. Thank you for your time!

I'd say the important things to look for are cups/lids, milks, and backups. Once youve stocked cups/ lids and milks, check and see if you need anymore fruits pieces, teas, or frapp backups. There are of course other things but that's what i typically do.

You are amazing. Thank you

Cups, lids, beans, milks, restocking backups. You can check trash, do a lobby slide, replace syrup bottles as needed, keep up on the brewing cycle. During a few down seconds you can ask over the headset if anyone needs anything at the moment. Just stay busy. My goal is to get tasks done and keep things running without having to be asked. So anticipation of needs and just keep an eye on things.

Ask over the headset. That’s smart. Thank you for your response. It means a lot

When you know you are doing CS (for the future) do a quick look around to see what is needed most. Like if there is a pile of whip cream canisters then those probably need to be washed so they can be prepped first. With time you get into the groove of it, and have an understanding of what needs to be done. Like most afternoons (unless there is a guy that wants 2 Trenta black teas) my store we don't need more than about half a pitcher.

when ever your really busy your bar partners will usually let you know what they need if they are running low.

For restock going section by section is helpful, for cycle tasks following your task list card is easy to do in order, coffee cycles are different from each store and is determined by their batch guidance so it will be explained by your trainer. CS isn't a difficult position, there's just a lot of things to do. You'll be okay, it feels overwhelming at first because its a big job.

That’s reassuring. Since there’s a bunch of things to do I’m sure it’ll make the time fly right by. Thank you for your response!

I was trained in an old school way- but it helps. Yes follow your cycle task list but I always think “tc-rices” c - coffee first and foremost and timers, r- restock I-ice c-cups/lids e- espresso hoppers s-signals so like any milk, syrups, sleeves, all the other stuffs 😌
