So I’m kinda confused… I started Starbucks late May this year and was under the impression that once I have worked here for 3 months I qualify for the college benefit. But after reading more into it, I think I’ve gotten it mixed up. To qualify, I have to work 20 hours minimum for 3 months in a row? I have gotten scheduled under that threshold so I assume I don’t qualify. Also, I have to wait 2 months after I actually hit that threshold of 3 consecutive months? I’m just wanting to know if I understand this correctly - none of my partners really know and my management is very tied up right now so i figured it would be easier to ask here. Thank you in advance!

You don’t have to wait, you can apply in advance! Tbh I applied for the sole purpose of a degree and I contacted a scap counselor abt 3 weeks after I started. She guided me through the entire application process, which I did while waiting to be benefits eligible. I told my manager right away that I needed the hours for scap + healthcare so she did her best to give me 20+ hrs a week. It’s an average over the 3 months (and then 6 months once it’s the during an adult) so if I only worked 15 one week, but 25 the next it evened out. Since I already had my application done and ready to go, I was able to sign up for the next semester when I became benefits eligible! I was lucky, it lined up that I hit 3 months in November and the new semester started in January so I didn’t feel like I was wasting time. But you don’t have to wait to apply! I’d talk to your manager and reach out to a scap counselor asap! Good luck :)

Yay!! Thank you!! (That’s why I applied too 😅) I love being a barista and also have a job at a local coffee shop so I’m a dual barista and mainly work at starbs for the pay and amazing benefits :) hence why my availability is not so great :/ . Thank you for your help and good luck with your schooling 💕

I would try scheduling an appointment with an enrollment from the SCAP page. They're super helpful and have tons of answers

So it’s a benefit, you’re eligible after 90 days (3 months) OR after you hit the 520 audit in Jan/July. You’re then qualified to join the next semester of the following month. (I became benefits eligible in Feb and started during Spring 2022).

Thank you for your input! I’m curious, were you also scheduled under 20 hrs/week? I get about 2-3 shifts a week due to my availability :/

I’m a full time shift (~37 hrs a week) but the average is 18 hours weekly. Talk to SCAP at ASU, they can help you
