Damn this happened to me the first shift we switched to 4 am. I was on autopilot and assumed it was still 430 😔

The worst feeling oh my word. I’ve been at Starbucks for about a year and 7 months and have never been late, until my shift texted me that I was scheduled incorrectly and I could come in 30 minutes later and my sleepy brain just turned off my alarm instead of changing it. I got a call 5 minutes into when my shift was supposed to start asking if I was okay and I was like… why wouldn’t I be oka—-OH NO. Lol I got to the store 20 minutes later and my manager is sitting in the back room. Shes NEVER here. Literally the only time she’s been at work when I get there and literally the only time I’ve been late. 😭

My store opens at 3:30am 🥲

Omg that reminds me of when I had horrible insomnia due to psych problems last year and did that twice within one week of each other. It was also the 89th day of me working there and “probation” ends at 90 😭 It was horrible and my manager was so good about it, he definitely should have fired me but instead helped me find the resources I needed. Almost shat my pants both times.

I never check my schedule. I always work 4:30-8:30 am. Maybe once a month we open at 7:00 because there is no one to open with me. Every single time, I show up at 4:15 in the parking lot. At 4:25 I check my phone to see what the schedule says because usually the other opener is early too. At 4:26 I drive home slightly annoyed that there isn't enough time to sleep or do anything before I have to come back.

im a ssv and I always feel awful sending these texts because I've been on the receiving end enough times to know the panic 😭 before I promoted I worked mostly opening and early AM shifts and had wicked insomnia for a while, and was late to three morning shifts in a month. my sm was SO understanding, I never even got a write up, but ffs I was chronically 30m early for a while after that

I have fucking dreams of this shit

It sounds bad but we open at 4 now and I just… don’t sleep before my shift and go to sleep after cause I’m so scared I won’t wake up for it

Oh, god. I haven’t done this yet, but my shift did one morning. Imagine my horror standing in front of the doors and having to tell people that we’re opening a bit later.

Shift manager: You're opening this morning.

Me: wut?

Shift manager: you're supposed to be here

Me: *mid putting on pants* I'll be there in 20

Been there, done that, had the crippling panic of quadruple checking my alarm before bed.

I'm a SSV and I was told waking up to a missed called from me is not fun.

While I was still training, I remember waking up and feeling suspiciously well rested while at the same time hearing my parents downstairs saying, "Isn't xianwolf supposed to be at work?" I was FIVE HOURS LATE. Luckily my store manager was surprisingly chill about it when I showed up.

omg once i went to check the schedule sunday thinking it was for the following monday but it was for the previous one. clocked in one hour late😭

Once I was an opener but read the wrong week’s schedule so I rolled in at 6:45 to order a drink. The DTO was like “you know you were supposed to open right?” I felt SO STUPID

It sucks when it happens two days in a row even worse

whenever i had opening shifts i would wake up every few hours in an absolute panic thinking i slept through my alarms. i feel this

One time, I woke up and noticed how I didn’t hear an alarm so I went to look at the time only to realize my phone was dead. I scrambled out of bed to check my computer and to my horror I saw it was 5:02 am…we open at 5 am AND IM THE KEYHOLDER. I thought I was going to get fired.

That’s how I was fired from working at Dutch Bros years before I started working at sbux.

Dude this happened to me too. I hade four 4:30pm-9:30pm shifts in a row and the one after that was a 4:30am-9:30am shift to end it and I got a call saying if I was going to come in

Yes, it is terrifying ! Many partners & one shift always overslept or didn’t show up.

My old assistant manager Who thankfully got fired would change the schedule without telling anybody normally I work 6 to 3 or six til 1 and then they started putting me on opening shifts well on my “suppose a day off“ he scheduled me for an 8 hour shift starting at 4am. Let’s just say I didn’t go in that day. Or the other day that he scheduled me off. 🤷🏼‍♀️

This hasn’t happened to me yet (knock on wood) but I’ve had nightmares abt this lmaoo

No longer a barista (thank goodness) but I did that once for an opening shift that turned into a fiasco.

Was scheduled for 4:30am. Woke up at 6:30 to my manager blowing up my phone. Got myself up and then realized that I'm already like 2 hours late so I might as well get my kid up for school instead of forcing my boyfriend to do it. Got to work at 7-ish.

Literally was at work for 30 minutes and then got a call from my son's school that my son shouldn't be at school because he was a close contact to a positive case of COVID. I missed the school's call the day before and hadn't listened to my voicemail yet. So I had to leave work and go back and get him.

My manager was furious 😅 I still have no idea if I woke up and turned my alarm off or if I never turned it on to begin with.

Sheer disbelief and terror

I HATE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I’ve done it twice. First time I thought I went in an hour later and a shift texts me and asks if I’m coming in. Second time I slept through my alarms and my asm called and I was like “😳did I sleep through my alarms??? I SLEPT THROUGH MY ALARMS ILL BE THERE”

I have had to make that call twice in the last couple days 😭

For real though, I always try to call and comfort the person, as I know they are gonna be torturing themselves the whole day about it. Nothing is accomplished by getting angry at them.

I am an opener and numerous times I’ve woken up at 6am to calls from ppl asking where I was. :) gotta love opens.

Sp onetime a temporary Manger from my closed & remodeled store deleted a week work of my schedule at a new store.. So my first "schedule" I slept in till about 8 right. I have 4 missed called and a shit tone of texts.starting at 5 am. Turns out I was supossed to open that day. I'm calling them back panicking thinking my job is gone so I'm booking it on the verge of tears. I arrive both and both the store Manger and my full Manger are sitting there wide eyed cause I live 30 minutes away and it's been 10 minutes. I start apologies like a a helpless person and welp. They look at me tell me to relax the temp. Manger of my home store had deleted me and 3 other people's shifts at the new store for a week. Biggest relief I've ever had.

Once my alarm didn't go off and I woke up at around 8 when I was opening. The ssv managed to *not notice* I wasn't there and never called me, and had a laugh about it

That happened to me once slept through my alarm but I lived right down the street so I put on my stuff and ran down in under 5 minutes - and I mean ran. Lol because shift couldn’t open the door until I got there. Luckily we opened right on time only everything was being set up with doors open. Oops.

4:30am? Holy crap. And I complain about my 7:30am opening…
