I’m sorry someone SHOT THEMSELF?! That’s enough to close early because then you need hazmat to come clean! WTF!!!
ebac739 points10m ago
Hes just using the third place. /s
For reals though its fucked. When i was at my first store like 5 years ago, One partner held a customer in their arms who had a heart attack in front of them, and they passed away before the paramedics arrived. Same situation, people pissed why their coffee is taking so long, nvm the body on the floor in front of the register.
Assiqtaq13 points10m ago
Had a former co-worker pass out on the job behind counter. My store manager of the time said he got super pissed off because he was trying to check on her and make sure she was alive and breathing, and she had people leaning over the counter and asking when their drinks were going to be made.

apparently I got lucky, or just avoided customers well enough. we had an (falsely reported, but didn't find out until an hour later) active shooter situation last week at my store. I got everyone evacuated, and had maybe one person ask about their coffee before I literally shouted at them to get out. fun times
RyusuiJL3 points10m ago
PLEASE tell me that SM totally went off on the asshats.
Assiqtaq2 points10m ago
It was a few years ago, and I wasn't working that day. I heard about it later. But from his own mouth he was irritated and told them they would get to it but he needed to check on his employee first. He did sound very peeved when he was recounting it.
Danielitics047 points10m ago
Yup had the same shit happen. A regular had 2 siezures by the handoff station and 2 nurses were thankfully there to help her. There was one guy that said he couldn't "deal with this shit" because his drink was being blocked

This is why im cynical. I cannot stand people. All those types of customers u have talked about are completely brainless. They have to be. Theres no other explanation for it. Oh but they can keep being served and we are not allowed to match their energy. Starbucks cares more about their customers instead of their employees. Thats a very obvious one. I hate this company and what it has become
[deleted] [OP]15 points10m ago
number 2 they took 1 hour before they took acton. they finally evacuated customers and then we as partners hung out in the store without following proper protocol and evacuating as well despite me saying that we should also evacuate… several times
number 4 was by a customer
and number 5 is just one example. i had someone order a dark roast because he asked which is freshest. after getting dark roast he proceeded to chew me out and at the end ask for a pike… no one stood up for me.
another man came in (different day) i had just finished brewing. asked which is freshest. i said dark. he took one sip and made foul remarks about the coffee and how we shouldn’t brew something like this and he wants a different coffee. i said “we have pike and blonde” he asked for blonde i gave him blonde… he didn’t like that it wasn’t hot enough. finally gave him a pike with cream on the side and he dumped it on the ground and said “sbux coffee sucks” why’d you come here then?

I am SO sorry. You have delt with shit that even the most seasoned of professionals have never had to deal with. You need to GTFO of that hell hole right quick.
I wish you could have experienced time at our store. No cliques, management that cares for us, and just overall a pleasant experience. Find something more worthy of your time and energy. For someone who sounds like an amazing person and a valuable one to employ.
Sending the biggest and warmest hugs, and all the best wishes that your next endeavour treats you as you deserve!!!
[deleted] [OP]1 points10m ago
this honestly made my day reading. especially about the part where you said “a valuable person to employ” because quite honestly i needed to hear that after everything i’ve been through. mind you, these things that happened all happened within a 1 month span of time (all the major incidents that is. the cliques thing and manager not giving me hours has been months). so it’s been hard. i have been looking for other jobs and i have found a few but i still need to apply (as i don’t have the luxury of quitting and getting another job without a current job)… but your comment definitely reminded me that there’s hope out there. so truly, i appreciate it.
and, i have been with the company for a while. My first store ran very corporate but the manager there was so compassionate and kind and truly went above and beyond for her employees. so, when i came back to starbucks (different store) after taking a few months break due to travelling, i was kind of shook at the polar opposite of what i originally experienced.
but thank you so much for the kind words you’ve written. truly they have helped and i wish you all the happiness and peace in the world 😊

Ok, the events you've had to endure were bad enough...but within a ONE MONTH period?!? You, my dear Partner, are a FAR stronger individual than I. Than most, I would wager. That you still seem to maintain such a cheery and positive demeanor amidst all this turmoil...it's really a testament to the potential strength of the human spirit. I have suffered far less and reacted far worse. I commend you. I applaud you. I give you my respect and admiration.
I hope you don't mind if I follow you. I really hope to hear some awesome updates as you find a job that deserves your attitude and dedication!
[deleted] [OP]5 points10m ago
update too: before anyone asks about the corrective action form: had a coworker that i’ve never worked with before. As soon as he’s out on the floor i say “Hi! I’m ______. What are your pronouns?” in a really like energetic type way. ONE FULL MONTH later i get called to talk to the manager after work. i ask what this is about and she said because APPARENTLY, my asking of this one partner their pronouns while i was full of energy is wrong. why? because this partner is shy and quiet and me being energetic scared him. Now, the corrective action form said bc i “asked someone if they were 🏳️🌈” and apparently that’s filed as harassment.
make. it. make. sense.
it’s obv it means that my manager is trying to get rid of me.
ghostymost22 points10m ago
That’s messed up. The corporation literally has pronoun pins for partners. My coworkers have asked for my pronouns before. It’s nbd! Your manager is whack. That coworker is whack too. I’m sorry you had to deal with so much bs and hope you find a less toxic work environment!
[deleted] [OP]3 points10m ago
I hate to say it but if the SM isn't giving you hours and the other partners don't talk to you.. they're waiting for you to quit.
Saul_Gone_Man2 points10m ago
im not calling you a liar but i find it *incredibly* difficult to believe that somebody shot themselves in your store and people were really still impatiently waiting for their coffee
[deleted] [OP]2 points10m ago
trust me, i couldn’t believe it when i saw it either. one person physically would not leave despite yelling at them to go.
Saul_Gone_Man2 points10m ago
im sorry you saw that, my friend, i hope you were properly compensated by the siren for the emotional damages and given a fair amount of time off to recover.
[deleted] [OP]1 points10m ago
ugh i wish the siren compensated me.
but i’m kinda done so… i’m leaving now honestly.
eggospoptart2 points10m ago
I thought my store was the only store that was cliquey 🙃.
Seriously though, only like one actual friend made the last six months working here, male coworkers attempting to smash, and then everyone that's fake and talks shit about you.
At least at my store.
Aggressive_Weight8622 points10m ago
I was a partner for seven years. No regrets leaving that place. I keep in contact with the partners I care about and one specifically has been a partner for eighteen years, not sure how she does it because the manager has done some awful things to her. The day you hang up your apron will be one of the most liberating days.
[deleted] [OP]1 points10m ago
ik it’s been a hot sec but i finally am out and istg you were right. hanging up the apron was the most liberating day!
you know, i always kept telling myself “i’ll quit” but then always being like “yeah but i’m gonna miss barring and im going to miss our regular customers. it brings me so much joy” and it wasn’t until i branched out that i found something better and in contrast, starbucks looks to be nothing. i never thought it was possible given my background but i’m gonna make it! and i wish all the same and best in life for you as well!! 🫶🫶
Necessary_Low9392 points10m ago
Damn U went through a lot. There are better stores, if u genuinely like this job, try to find a good one. Not all Starbucks are like that. Trust. But honestly, I think y have a bad experience overall to not want to reconsider
[deleted] [OP]1 points10m ago
definitely! i agree with you! my first store, the manager was amazing and i absolutely loved my job. when i transferred stores i was just kinda shook at how polar opposite that experience was. honestly, i wouldn’t consider working at starbucks again unless i has absolutely zero other place to go. like i would recommend it to other people… just not me personally. as for transferring, i got a false corrective action form in august so… gotta wait the lovely 6 months if i wanted to transfer. but i’m sure i’ll be gone before then.
Necessary_Low9392 points10m ago
Oh I see. Sorry it didn’t work out. I came back to part time and it’s great! I’ve been in toxic stores but my current one is quite nice
