Hi! I came from retail to the siren, been here a little over a year and I miss retail so much. I miss merchandising, I miss folding clothes and doing more casual tasks and actually talking with customers vs having to deal with 45 second drive times. I miss upselling and caring about my sales, units per transaction and my average dollar sales (I was a store manager I LOVED this stuff) and idk I just miss the retail vibes

YES I miss having nails and not waking up at 3am, I miss doing my hair and makeup and not sweating it all off lol

It’s time to go job hunting, I want my nails and nice smelling hair that’s not pike-scented back 🤣

I’ve already started! I’m just stuck because I’m a shift at Starbucks and get paid well, it’s hard to find somewhere in retail that will pay me as well. Best of luck to you!!

I used to work at Ross night shift and now work at Starbucks and while retail was exhausting it was far more relaxing than Starbucks. Starbucks puts so much pressure on “connections” when I just want to go to work, do my job and leave. Sometimes I feel pressured to talk when I just like being alone with my thoughts and working on my tasks. Retail allowed me to do that. Even during the most stressful days.

I hate the pressure for connections In a place where everyone wants to come in get their coffee and leave like they don't come there to stand around and talk with us and that just slows us down anyway. I have a couple people that come in really early and are the only customer in the store and we will talk for a bit while I'm putting away a truck order or something but other than that people just want to be in and out not held up by us asking what their favorite season is 💀

I worked retail, fast food, big girl office job after college, and then went right back to coffee at Starbucks.

Let me give you a word of advice from someone who thought Starbucks was the better path worth taking:

People suck EVERYWHERE. At least at Starbucks I can get so busy that I don't even remember it by the end of the shift and they're gone instantly afterwards. With retail and my office job, the haters were coworkers, bosses, AND customers. Too much free time = too much bullshit time. Bad interactions would ruin my entire day because they were slow jobs and I had too much time to think.

Moved from barista to server. I make $25-$30 an hour now and it’s so worth it.

My last day was yesterday after almost four years and good lord idk how anyone that stepped in after covid is expected to survive this shit. Youll almost certainly be happier elsewhere.

My last day is this coming Sunday. I got myself into a roof supply company. Gotta do the grunt work for a few months of delivering shingles to rooftops and moving stuff around a warehouse, but in February should be able to move into a sales position that's opening up hopefully
