Starbucks Baristas: The daily grind

the actual sb*x reddit vs this one (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by LaurdAlmighty
I'm sorry but I noticed how the actual sb*x reddit is full of p*rtners boot licking vs this one which seems to allow more venting without boot tasting p*rtners making snide comments like others aren't allowed to vent or being annoyed with their workplace. I guess that one really isn't for us, but yeah I get the importance of a customer free zone. Not to mention that reddit gets monitored
rudebii 511 points 10m ago
Some partners just have too much customer in them still.
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 143 points 10m ago
No fr lmao.
ari_thedarkone 274 points 10m ago
Like people that rattle off a complicated drink order that’s three pages long while it’s clearly busy and the store is understaffed, only to follow up with, “I have partner numbers” 🙄 looking at you, 320’s.
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 140 points 10m ago
Yeah and telling others "just do your job" when people are venting about how the customers are treating them like huh???
aspiringgrandpa 93 points 10m ago
‘just quit then’ like some people aren’t surviving off the benefits ☠️
ghostymost2 80 points 10m ago
One of my SSVs seriously said “that’s customer service. If you don’t like it find another job” after I complained about a customer who kept harassing me for being trans.
mrcupcake18 4 points 10m ago
Omg I hate that like wow Brenda I didn’t think of that, let me just smile and hold my tears and I hope since you are here talking shit I can only assume you are doing the same 🥰🥰
Fresh-Brilliant-439 3 points 10m ago
I saw those and they urked me
aspiringgrandpa 26 points 10m ago
LITERALLY GO TO UR OWN STORE ☠️ u know they don’t bc they’re too embarrassed to order that shit where they work
capsule_of_anxiety1 22 points 10m ago
Yeah tbh I can’t stand the newer generations of baristas, they just don’t do their job correctly (due to poor training likely, which isn’t entirely their fault but a lot of them act like they know it all which I hate) and are lazy, hate being corrected, and just have a terrible attitude.

This is coming from a former 260 who spent 3 years with the siren as a trainer in the busiest store in that district, so I spent a lot of time with many different baristas (high turn over), and all of the newer ones were like this (so don’t come at me saying I don’t know what I’m talking about, bc stfu respectfully ;)
Artistic-Bit-7584 4 points 10m ago
In our store we have 160 partners and 368 partners, I'm 321 and usually get a iced matcha or blonde quad over ice. The 368s usually get stupid crazy drinks and we just tell them that if they want it to make it at the end of there shift. Most of the new partners still make a lot of reg drinks wrong and don't even care. 🙃

My biggest pet peeve is when hey do this at DT… like you know I have a headset and have to take other orders and multi task. For the love of god either tell me at the speaker or have your partner numbers linked to ur account
lilkiosk 17 points 10m ago
Throwing up, but also thinking about how the ONLY customer in my 2+ years with the siren to complain about me ever was a tarbucks barista who made me remake her *steamed cold brew* twice and explained it to me as if I was literally 3 and asked if I “understood now because it shouldn’t be that hard”…. Miss ma’am had worked at her tarbucks for 2 months. Everyone who watched the interaction (in which I was perfectly agreeable) told my SM before she called the store so when she did my SM laughed at her. :) I hate everyone :)
Tired_and_over_it 9 points 10m ago
Why would you get steamed cold brew 🤮
kaefeen 9 points 10m ago
ew idk why she’s acting all entitled from being at a tarbucks…..love that your manager had your back too!!!
HypnoticPeaches 3 points 10m ago
I’m a new partner and there’s an ex-partner that comes in my store, has a highly customized drink (it’s basically a mix of refreshers and juices but she’s *very* adamant about the proportions). She’s like “well, just go by the lines” when it’s a completely non-standard build. I love it 🙃
b99__throwaway 16 points 10m ago
don’t look at the 320s look at those 368s 😭
kaefeen 10 points 10m ago
SIX?!?? 😳
MrsClaireUnderwood 14 points 10m ago
Dude I work with people that will push a bar person out of the way to make their own drink during peak. Zero awareness.
ElijahLordoftheWoods 2 points 10m ago
Wtffffff
Comfortable-Plane944 13 points 10m ago
320 here and I would neverrrr do that. I’m always a cold brew with coconut milk. Vs what I would make myself
Buttafly_360 5 points 10m ago
320 partner here and I would never order complicated drinks as I deal with it so much at work myself..to the point I'm ready to leave the siren 🤦🏽‍♀🤦🏽‍♀
Worldly_Cucumber_692 4 points 10m ago
Right! I only get complicated drinks when I’m on the clock and make it myself. When I order outside of work I condense it to the easiest possible thing.
I’m so done with starbies rn. Like if one more customers screams at me I’m going to kick out all customers, lock the doors and leave.
bonjourimeric 4 points 10m ago
320’s have no excuse we’ve been here like a year at this point
It_is_Katy 3 points 10m ago
lmao y'all sound like the bitches in high school that used to bully freshman.

Most 320s have been there over a year at this point (myself included), what exactly WOULD it take for you to give up the superiority complex? How long do we have to be around before y'all start respecting us?

I'm so sick of seeing this same bullshit thinking on this sub. Get off your high horse.
Intelligent-Ad1273 3 points 10m ago
I’m a 321 and most of my group is pretty chill but 320’s specifically are a different breed yo
PuzzleheadedRough335 3 points 10m ago
HEY MY DRINKS ARE SIMPLE :(
Danielitics04 2 points 10m ago
Thank God I'm a 321😩
Snarfungus 2 points 10m ago
me, a 320 🥲
Wonderful_Nightmare 2 points 10m ago
Lol those 320 baristas really be like that tho, no shade
Urmomscoochiehairs 2 points 10m ago
Lmao I’m so sorry I’m definitely a 320 but I get a simple drink

this one is sm better. and the admins on the sbx reddit will lock ur post soo fast the minute any discussion starts happening and it’s so annoying
C10ckw0rks 9 points 10m ago
Low key that kind of have to, iirc several partners have been fired from a corporate level because they WILL go searching for any info to identify you. The discord is also under lock and key, and it started with the Unicorn frap iirc.
Torirock10 4 points 10m ago
👁_ 👁 i didn’t know all that. So like …. it’s an official subreddit?? or what? or do you mean the discord is locked so starbucks spies don’t get in? 😭 or what. that’s crazy. i’ve seen all the ppl getting fired on there but idk sometimes they b doin dumb stuff
C10ckw0rks 5 points 10m ago
It’s not “official” but Corporates very aware of it. And yeah you have to verify you’re a partner and it has rules to follow.
Torirock10 4 points 10m ago
that’s wild bruh
insanityizgood13 76 points 10m ago
Granted, I love my job & I'm still green bean, but it's SO important to have a space to vent. If other people's stores are good, that's great, but not every store is the same! And I HATE when people say "just quit" etc... it's not that simple or easy & we all live in the real world where bills give zero fucks, so quitting on the spot without another job lined up isn't possible. It's just classism at its finest.
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 29 points 10m ago
Yeah I'm baffled by partners who say that shit along with the customers not even a lot of customers with jobs paying more than ours can quit on the spot
insanityizgood13 10 points 10m ago
Idk if they're just privileged enough to not have to have ever worried about that or what? But I worked fast food, then retail for years before I got this a few months ago. I've worked with all sorts of people, seen many shitty & great customers...you don't forget where you came from or how hard you had it before. I can't judge other people for being stuck in a job they hate because I was in the same boat very recently. Some empathy would go such a long way. It's why I seriously think every person should work customer service jobs (retail, fast food, grocery, etc) for a little bit so they can remember these employees are actual people, not robots.
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 8 points 10m ago
Not to generalize at all but our more conservative partners at my store would act like this like we all didn't just get cussed out by the same customer. One could afford to come and go as they pleased bc they are a military spouse.
BatWeary 7 points 10m ago
YES. i can’t stand working here anymore but nowhere else is going to pay me 15.68 starting out. min wage in my state is $9.30. if i left i’d be taking almost half a chunk of my income away…if i’m struggling now at my current wage i’d have to get a second job. not to mention the benefits…

believe me, if i could find a decent retail job that pays me a fair amount i’d leave in a heartbeat. but most places don’t (in my area at least).
transliorights 3 points 10m ago
On the other sbx reddit I saw someone say stop complaining you get holiday pay? Not everyone does! At ours the only day we get paid extra is Christmas Day and even if you do get extra, it's not enough to deal with the cunty customers that insult us? Don't get me wrong, I love my job but holy shit.
Spinelise 43 points 10m ago
I really have been contemplating leaving the other starbucks reddit and I think this helped me decide. Over there I feel like you can hardly say anything about what it's really like working for a shitty store for shitty customers without someone just stopping in saying "you know you don't have to work there, right? I work at starbucks and it's the best company I've ever been at" 🥲🥲🥲

like no I'm sorry that constantly having slurs thrown at us and having to stop customers from fighting and throwing hot water at kids while corporate does nothing is just me "whining" but hey I also have bills to pay and college to attend
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 15 points 10m ago
Yeah I get it Starbucks has been my better job overall, I just graduated using scap and I've made friends that being said it's not worth my mental and physical health to stay any longer
Spinelise 6 points 10m ago
I'm glad you're moving on to better things! Starbucks played it's role to us, and once I'm done with school too I hope I can find something better as well. Most of us don't look at the siren as a career but just another stepping stone to keep us going, and that's totally alright. There's some good to the job, like I love being a barista, but the environment isn't always the best yknow?
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 3 points 10m ago
thank you and good luck to you. I agree! And i do like some customers but the fast food industry cs is toxic
itachisbigbootygf 24 points 10m ago
everyone else is allowed to complain about their jobs except starbucks baristas. like yes we know it’s our job and we get paid for it but jesus
dekumacchiato 24 points 10m ago
I agree & it’s soooo many customers in the other one 😕😕😕
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 44 points 10m ago
Yeah and boot tasters be patting their backs too much. No offense but some of the customers are too grown for their clueless actions. "They don't know!" Is not an excuse for lack of common sense or acting like you don't have any life experience. We all have moments where you don't want to step on toes and end up looking a little out of sorts but some of them go there every day and still act brand new.

Literally a few days ago a maintenance man was working in our cold brew machine and a woman came up to him, no apron no uniform tools on the counter, and asked where her cake pops were. Why would the MAINTENANCE MAN KNOW THAT??
Sarahthelizard 11 points 10m ago
> maintenance man was working in our cold brew machine and a woman came up to him, no apron no uniform tools on the counter, and asked where her cake pops were.

My DM once asked a repair guy how long he'd been "with us" lol
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 12 points 10m ago
DMs don't even remember names
bellamythos 6 points 10m ago
last month we had a technician trying to fix our cold brew fridge, obviously also no apron + tools out + visibly working on the fridge not making drinks, and i swear, every two minutes a customer (usually a teenager) came up to ask them for a straw
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 6 points 10m ago
They lack common sense lol that's why they get called npcs
Intelligent-Hunt-906 2 points 10m ago
I’m dead asf
broookeee_ 22 points 10m ago
that one is filled with customers acting as if they know more than a barista does💀
BatWeary 21 points 10m ago
LMAO that’s how tiktok is too. i saw a barista on my fyp who made a video along the lines of “prep sweet cream w me!”

people ate her UP. the comments were filled with “all sbux workers do is complain…i mean how hard is your job?” and “well if you hate it so much LEAVE”. girl literally didn’t say a single thing about anything…she didn’t even talk in the vid, caption was just hashtags like #starbucksbarista and #fyp. and then they were saying she made the vsc wrong…and then said “well i’ve never worked there but ive seen them make it in store & wasn’t the correct recipe in the vid” (it was, she listed it on the vid. but what do baristas know 🙄)
celtys1 14 points 10m ago
bro tiktok is the WORST offender of this like....from what ive seen on that app retail workers are allowed to complain as much as they like but when it comes to a place like starbucks people automatically feel attacked because they know that they're a major part of starbucks customer demographic lmao
idonutknow_ 2 points 10m ago
Customer here, literally lurking on this subreddit so I know what NOT to do when I go get a coffee I can’t believe how people order the shit they do and get away with it. I feel bad ordering an iced green tea with added refresher base to it
Euphoric_Collar565 4 points 10m ago
Plz don’t feel bad
MrsClaireUnderwood 21 points 10m ago
I work with somebody that cannot deal with even the slightest negative comment about the company. Their attitude is love it or leave it, which is a dumb philosophy toward anything in life.
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 11 points 10m ago
Ugh, lol working here four years there are things that I agree that Baristas should know how to do after a while(like how to build a drink or properly clean or something), but I have also been here long enough to experience the same gripes over and over maybe that its the COMPANY and not us that needs to change
MrsClaireUnderwood 5 points 10m ago
Oh absolutely. A corporation in America is never above criticism.
AnyPickle3751 13 points 10m ago
YUPPPP I noticed this too, it’s so weird how much ass kissing goes on as if this isn’t a company that illegally union busts, underpays and overworks their employees I’m like 😭 do y’all realize bootlicking isn’t gonna get you any special treatment???
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 5 points 10m ago
RIGHT??? It's ok to tell the customers they ok if they thought they made a mistake but stop kissing their ass lol
BatWeary 13 points 10m ago
sometimes i don’t realize which sub i’m on until i start getting bashed to all hell for batching enough foam for 4 pumpkin cold brews. like i know y’all cut corners sometimes 💀
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 3 points 10m ago
i hate ppl that complain about batching. unless it comes out ultra shitty who cares
BatWeary 4 points 10m ago
right! atp i’ve been doing this long enough i know exactly how many ml of sweet cream to pour for 2-3 drinks. very rarely do i dump a lot out (and if i do have extra, then i use it for any salted/chocolate/pumpkin foams i have coming up!)
Apprehensive-You5261 2 points 10m ago
Exactly! Our SM was like you’re not supposed to batch fraps but if you have 12 tickets lined up and several are the same flavour batch them(but I didn’t tell you that)
nezaket 1 points 10m ago
ok but we need the recipe 🙏
BatWeary 2 points 10m ago
i just do to the 300 ml line 😃 we batch cubes of pumpkin cream because we go through so much of it. i assume if you’re making it the standard way i’d do 6? pumps of pumpkin and the the vsc to the 300 ml.

i have no idea how much pumpkin per ml it’s supposed to be and i don’t really care to do the math rn
nezaket 1 points 10m ago
oh dang, i normally do 3 pumps of pumpkin, vsc to 150 mL, and a glug of pure heavy cream for good luck/foam integrity. that;s enough for like 2 or 3 pccbs

i hate when i want to rant about frappuccinos and i’ll have a bunch of partners in my comments saying things like “it’s your job”, “it’s what they pay you to do”, “quit complaining, it’s not that hard”.

everyone complains about their job! why is it such an issue when baristas do it? a lot of people find them annoying to make so i didn’t think it was that big of a deal for me to complain but *apparently* it is. sorry that i’m tired of making dozens of fraps during a rush, it’s exhausting and i need to let it out.
Gameb0i6 3 points 10m ago
I agree. I’ve never met anyone that enjoys making fraps.
Apprehensive-You5261 1 points 10m ago
I don’t think fraps are too bad because you can batch them if they’re the same flavour but last Friday we got a rush and it was later in the day so we only had one blender out and this person comes in drive and orders 6 all different flavour fraps 🥲 it took me FOREVER. And I can just feel pressured because the person is waiting and I can’t make it any faster. Didn’t help we were understaffed and I was solo bar. Hot and cold
Bluebilledduck 8 points 10m ago
Im newer, 321, and I get kinda of tired of the snide remarks towards anyone in the 300's on wither page. Like i know some of us are new or arent as experienced or whatever, but its still frustrating either way 🤷‍♀️
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 5 points 10m ago
I don't have anything much against y'all. The company dysfunctional as hell
Bluebilledduck 3 points 10m ago
I mean mostly when people say theyre quitting and theyre somewhere in the 300's and someone goes "you just got here." Like, yeah, the job is hard and customers suck and if your coworkers arent fun to be around then its awful.
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 3 points 10m ago
Oh yeah on that front I'll defend yall. It's not worth your mental stability to stay, at least go somewhere where you'll feel more okay.
geekgurl81 7 points 10m ago
I felt the opposite kinda. The other group has a lot of Union stuff but it seems to get downvoted here, or ignored.
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 2 points 10m ago
I understand it seemed to waiver for me for a while.
himynametopher 6 points 10m ago
When I was a partner I got banned from the actual Reddit for being too negative lmao. Glad partners are finally starting to unionize and fight back against this shitty corporation. I miss working with my fellow partners but damn I do not miss the few who drank the kool-aid!
pastelldillann 6 points 10m ago
I get the whole “this is your job and if you’re unhappy then quit” attitude— but for fuck sake, are we not allowed to complain about our jobs like everyone else? Example: There’s nothing wrong with ordering a frappucino, but I’m sure as hell going to be slightly annoyed by the amount of time it’s going to take me to make it if we are already slammed! And to be entirely honest, meeting time quotas makes this even more stressful and makes the job even more taxing. We’re only human, we’re not machines as much as corporate would love for us to be.
ricardimus 6 points 10m ago
I use to follow both, but the other sub not only licks the shit covered boot, but cover it in more shit as they lick it. Leaving the sub wasn’t enough though, it still came up as suggested. So not only did I leave, I also blocked it lol.

I don’t fancy boots, much less shit covered ones. This sub has the solidarity we all need.

I fucking love this sub.

Cheers comrades:)
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 3 points 10m ago
Cheers
Urmomscoochiehairs 6 points 10m ago
This one is better bc it’s limited to people who actually understand what it’s like to work awful shifts with just a few ppl and cafe closed on a Saturday
miniinovaa 5 points 10m ago
Idk why baristas specifically are told to just do their job. Like yeah I will but I will bitch about it cuz fuck Starbucks and capitalism and I don’t get paid enough to do it and actually enjoy it :)
floodmixed 4 points 10m ago
Outing myself as a customer, but I’m here and living for all the behind the scenes. I really appreciate all of you.
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 3 points 10m ago
Petah..... the bootlickers are here. (In my notifications)
freakkinthesheets 3 points 10m ago
One time I came back from lunch break an had other partners pull me aside an say the SM was telling everyone to be nice to me cuz I had a pregnancy test in my purse , when I confronted her about it she said my purse fell over an she called everyone to the back too look at it an tell her if it was theirs. ???? the fuck , I took my purse with me on my lunch , she then continued to berrate me about what a crappy barista I am an how she would never gossip. I went to the bathroom to collect myself an I could here her yelling to customers in the lobby how she didn't know what my problem was . I came back an she told me if I don't like her store I can get out. Called the PCR they told me to contact my DM ... My DM is close close friends with my SM. I messaged her about my concerns an was left on read. I've been really thinking about quitting but it's not right that this goes unchecked as her behavior continues this way.. not sure what the next move is.
brookeredacted 4 points 10m ago
If the DM doesn’t respond or if you don’t feel comfortable talking to them, PLEASE go above them. Keep climbing that ladder until you get a response. I promise it works. And it’s worth it.

Edit: your regional director is the next point of contact. I wanted to come back and say this because I wasn’t familiar with the chain of command at my last store. Hope you get the help you deserve!!!
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 2 points 10m ago
Go to the regional manager smh
dangerfruitt 3 points 10m ago
I swear some of those people in the regular subreddit have to be anti-union corporate plants
ladiah19 2 points 10m ago
That’s true too but also people literally complain about anything and everything and it comes a point that literally none of it is necessary
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 2 points 10m ago
False lol
Intelligent-Hunt-906 2 points 10m ago
This!
s0ycatpuccino 2 points 10m ago
I like it better here too but why'd you censor it? 💀
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 3 points 10m ago
I'm used to censoring words to prevent post on any platforms coming up in search.
s0ycatpuccino 2 points 10m ago
Bro i never would've thought of that, thank you for explaining!
TheFriendlyFeminist 2 points 10m ago
I wouldn’t be surprised if this one was monitored too
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 3 points 10m ago
I'm finna leave the company soon anyway if they get me lol
L_Swizzlesticks 1 points 10m ago
Main sb*x sub is to this sub as the “main” ADHD sub is to any other ADHD sub on Reddit.

And I have a feeling this same thing applies to an infinite number of other communities on Reddit. A bunch of insecure, power-tripping dipsticks moderate* the highest-traffic subs, bring similarly idiotic people into the mod club, and erase any possibility of productive, educational discourse.

The one silver lining is that this behaviour leads people to break off and create other subs to facilitate the conversations that should be happening.

*Censor and propagandize more than any authoritarian regime past, present, or future, quite likely.

I only ever order my daughter’s complicated TikTok drinks after 2pm... and not very often at that. 💚
Jesslynnlove -4 points 10m ago
Im all for venting but sometimes its kind of cringe. Loke that post of someone “working one day, and quitting that day” like bruh, thats fucking sad imo and reeks of a privileged life. There are MANY waaaay worse iobs. You couldnt even last a month let alone a single day???
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 7 points 10m ago
How is that sad? I wouldn't exactly say it's cringe when obviously it's bad enough in most stores that people started uni*nizing
Jesslynnlove -5 points 10m ago
Clarify most stores. There are unionization efforts and unionized stores, but those are largely only located in areas with vast economic disparity(i know there is disparity across the country, but comparing a small town in Arizona starbucks to a NY/SanFran starbucks isn't realistic).

Dude if you literally quit on your first day of working with a company, that speaks volumes to yourself as a person, not the place of work. Literally a single day. Couldn't be bothered to give notice or anything. Just quit after ONE day of working. That is sad. Incredibly sad. But, they probably have an extremely privileged life and thus they can afford to do that if they wanted to.
LaurdAlmighty [OP] 2 points 10m ago
You don't know what that person is going through or if they're privileged or not. Some people figure out day 1 if they're not actually cut out for a job which is okay. Even if they are privileged if you know the job isn't for you or you're not a good worker then head on out. It's partners I currently work with that I WISH did that day 1. If they leave day one then fine, They know not to waste their time or ours and move on. I don't want you to stay if it'll affect all of us.
caligirlthrowaway104 3 points 10m ago
You think leaving a job after one day reeks a privileged life? So is it less privileged if they leave after 2 weeks instead? I feel like your bar for what would be considered “privileged” is really low… Some people just realize quickly that a job may not be for them. Maybe that other person started at Starbucks and then heard back about a better opportunity and decided to take it and leave Starbucks. There are plenty of reasons someone could leave a job on day one, but that doesn’t necessarily make them privileged.
Jesslynnlove -4 points 10m ago
No but giving two week notice is the correct and right thing to do, to give notice in a professional atmosphere and leave the job correctly, as it will apply to any career in the future.

Anyone can strawman at maybes and what-ifs. Generally speaking if you quit a job after a single day there are probably other outliers that make it so you don't need to work, for starters, and likely have a lack of discipline. I would bank on these factually speaking over Maybe/what if. Obviously the latter do occur, albeit less frequent.
caligirlthrowaway104 7 points 10m ago
Sure I agree that giving a two week notice is generally always recommended, especially if you plan to list that job on your resume. But if you (for whatever reason) decide to leave after one day, that job is not going on your resume anyways. There hardly seems to be a point to staying for two more weeks if during that time they would have to work to train you at the job. Overall I’m just saying you can’t definitively say that because someone quits a job after one day that they are in fact privileged. I think there can be many scenarios where that happens and those people would not necessarily be privileged.

There’s no boot it’s just starbucks. What the “boot” really boils down to is “my store manager is a dickhead” over and over again.
