today is the day I'm done with the siren (self.starbucksbaristas)

I absolutely love my job. I love everything coffee, i love showing off my skills and passion. I'm one of the best barista trainers in my store. I'm supervisor and I've become coffee master very quickly and won my district barista championship.

A few months ago we changed district manager and I told my manager I wanted to become district coffee master. He agreed I would be the best candidate and said he was gonna speak with the district manager. Turns out he never did. Another store manager said to the district manager that they have a partner they'd want for the position and that's it, the partner got nominated district coffee master. My manager did absolutely nothing about it, didn't mention my name or tried to even have a fair choice.

I feel betrayed and disappointed. All my hard work and accomplishments get thrown out the window.

So yeah, I'm done with the siren. I'm handling my notice tomorrow. I don't wanna work where I'm not appreciated and recognise for my passion and hard work.

Loved my time in starbucks, but the corporation wins once again.

In Ireland, a district coffee master is the Head coffee master. It's role is just to train future coffee masters, sign them off, do special coffee tasting etc..

Never heard of a “district coffee master” before, but other than that I totally get it. I was given the go-around for everything. They always promoted everyone but me, even though most of the others that got promoted sucked so bad and very few of them lasted more than 6 months. I was literally only promoted after there was no other choice and I lasted longer than any of them and baristas and managers liked me better. And my coffee master literally took YEARS because my manager AND district manager kept dragging their feet even while other baristas and shifts were getting THEIR coffee masters!?! And then when I expressed interest in moving up to manager I received no direction in what steps to take or how to develop. Not one thing. I’ve proved I’m motivated and put in the work where and when required. I’ve proved that I take it seriously and will see it through. But management just sucks at finding and developing talent.

It sucks. Rather than promote people that actually enjoy their job and are willing to give the best service they can they promote people that are not motivated. My manager is only a relatively baby manager (got promoted 7 months ago) and was a supervisor before so I thought he would understand. But no, power went to his head apparently.

I'm just disappointed. I'm sure I can get a better job somewhere else. That's how you loose good staff, by not caring.
