Encountered my first rude customer (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Ahswera
We had a new trainee on register today and I guess she didn’t ring her drink up correctly the lady just started yelling out of nowhere saying this isn’t what I wanted I wanted it hot not cold I’m telling her it seems like there was a mistake I can remake it for her then she throws another fit “I been waiting for 20 minutes” she literally just pulled up and came in the store we wasn’t even open for 20 minutes yet 😭why do people do this

I think when customers yell they’re most likely panicking because they’ve lost control of the situation (in their minds) and yelling is how they’ve learned to get what they want

And it’s true that the customer service industry rewards bad behavior like you can literally get anything you want just by acting stupid or angry

goddddd that’s so annoying! always gets on my nerves when they lie about how long they’ve been waiting. 20 minutes is usually like, 5 at the most. especially can’t stand when they’re not understanding that new partners make mistakes! they’d rather waste time complaining about wasted time than just say “yes please remake my drink”

Yes!! The time she spent yelling I could’ve remade the drink some people just love to start problems I felt so bad for the trainee

they have no shame when completely destroying a trainee’s spirit. it happened once at our store, just confusion that led to a minor, fixable mistake. instead of being patient and allowing us to TRAIN and correct the mistake, lady decided to berate the girl who had only been there a week which made her very upset. we were all so frustrated and i felt so bad for her. i had to convince myself that i needed the job to avoid telling her off.

Why? Because they see you as less than them, the “help,” as it were. In their mind, you’re paid to serve them and when you do it wrong, they are within their right to chastise you as they see fit.

It is because they are allowed to get away with it. Management has no back bone and could honestly care less.
