I'm so fucking tired (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Intelligent-Ad1273
I was scheduled 4-11:30pm yesterday, had to come in 15 minutes early, and skip my 30 bc mids don't know how to do their fucking job. I worked almost 8 hours yesterday, got home at nearly midnight and didn't go to bed until 2am because I had homework. I'm up at 8 to get ready for my 10 am and do homework, got in a fight with my bf bc I wouldn't call out, go to class until 12 and then work from 12:30-8:15. I'm but a slave to the siren at this point

edit: clarifying time

Update: I survived, didn’t quit, and took home a box of pumpkin scones. I’m not going anywhere near the Starbucks tomorrow lol

Gosh I was so confused until I realized you were scheduled 4-11:30 PM. I work that same shift in the AM.

Edited to add that I'm sorry you felt you had to skip your 30, that really sucks.

oh shoot I should probably fix that. I did clean play last night so we didn't leave until 11:30 at night
CheesiestSlice 4 points 10m ago
What time does your store close?
Intelligent-Ad1273 [OP] 7 points 10m ago
9 and then 30 minutes to close so we usually leave around 9:30
CheesiestSlice 3 points 10m ago
I'll be very honest, I've yet to be scheduled for clean play. Is clean play normally scheduled 2 hours past close?

For me, i have a day next week where im scheduled to open 4:30am to 1:30pm. I've been opening a lot lately or going in at 6 or 7 but all my shifts have been under 6 hours and next week, i have that 1 day that's nearly 9 hours long. My funeral will be on that day 🙃
CheesiestSlice 3 points 10m ago
That's me every Saturday! I normally open and work until noon or so, but Saturdays I have more of a m8d shift, and staying until 4 in the afternoon feels DEAD when I spend most of my days working peak.
Responsible_Snow7109 2 points 10m ago
Lol i cant do mids 😖 idk im just an early person lol i love opening at 4:30 but til 1pm? Nope 🤗 lol but yea theres a huge difference when working peak and then doing mids at my store too. I used to do mids back when i first started like 2 and a half years ago and it was always so dead at my store from like 12 or 1 pm up til 3 or 3:30. But yea im not doing the 4:30 to 1 pm lol no way. I looked, its actually not next week, its the week after that. But ive been do burnt out recently that i really dont think i can handle that shift lol im guna figure something out with another coworker for part of that one lol

While I cannot recommend you to call out b/c there are a myriad of reasons behind that, this sounds like burnout (which is definitely a reason to call out).

When was the last day you had completely off from work or school? In February last year, my manager scheduled me every weekend day and so I blocked off Saturdays on my availability. That month was awful for me. I’d recommend doing that if possible.

Also, if the lunch thing keeps happening, call partner resources. No matter how crazy it is you need to be getting your lunch.

I normally don't like taking my 30, but it just got to me last night. I actually had Friday-Monday off bc it was my birthday, but I definitely feel burnt out lol. How bad does it have to be to be burnt out after one shift?????
Torirock10 10 points 10m ago
mids always fuck closers over 🤦‍♀️
Intelligent-Ad1273 [OP] 4 points 10m ago
The funny thing is that we have a list of mid tasks on the fridge bc bc they weren’t getting done and they STILL aren’t getting done. It also doesn’t help that they gave a morning person a mid/close ssv position. She’s a good worker but she never worked a mid/close before she became a shift
Torirock10 2 points 10m ago
i love having to clean all the ice bins and the hot bar and run the trash (the trash from the mid shift, and sometimes even the morning) it’s so fun. our mid shift manager friday refused to do hot bars or anything (they weren’t busy) she said “they’re always slow during closing) we were busy all night and only had like one 10 minute break between cars and that’s it. she fucked us over so hard bruh
Intelligent-Ad1273 [OP] 3 points 10m ago
I love cs and tasking. I get shit done too, but people don’t wanna listen to me when I tell them how to do certain tasks
vivnaomi 8 points 10m ago
Isn’t it illegally for you to not get your break??? I could be wrong
sydbey_ 3 points 10m ago
yeah they can’t legally work 8 hours without a 30 min break but people do it (for various reasons) but either way it should absolutely not happen

I’ve had to talk to my manger a couple of times for scheduling me to close and then open the next day like dude do you not realize that I do homework and study and then go to bed? I’m barely getting any sleep 😭 and then it’s like ok instead of opening let’s have you come in *an hour later* ffs I meant don’t put me so early in the morning after I just did a closing!

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

I had to text my manager about getting more hours bc I was scheduled for 14 hours over 2 days. I asked if I could have more hours since I need a minimum of 20 hours just to pay my bills and I need 25 if I’m going to afford groceries and he gave me one 5 hour shift on one of the schedules
mrcupcake18 1 points 10m ago
Just one under?! Omg I would flip a damn table
Intelligent-Ad1273 [OP] 3 points 10m ago
I don’t even care about a 30 bro I just want to eat and pay my bills 🥲

Are you a shift manager?
Intelligent-Ad1273 [OP] 2 points 10m ago
Haha nope. I went out for the closing shift position and they picked a morning person over me and 2 other extremely qualified baristas
