My store’s AC in the back of house is not working. I live in a really dry part of California so it’s been 112+ everyday. My supervisor hasn’t been doing anything about it. I bought some Gatorades and freeze pops for us tonight bc it’s still over 100 degrees at night and I had a shift that was supposed to end at midnight. We’re all getting heat exhaustion and heat stroke. It’s terrible. There’s no where to take out breaks because it’s a grab and go store meaning there’s no chairs to sit at. It’s incredibly hot and I’ve looked up osha and it’s not against anything since there is a place for us to take our breaks but it’s miserable. No one but the people that have worked the last couple days knew until we started giving tips and posters and everything for hydration in the group chat. Then my other coworkers started taking time out of their day to bring us fans and everything and cheering us on which was nice but we aren’t allowed to use them in the bar area so they don’t help much. I don’t know I guess I’m just very frustrated with the way this is being dealt with. There was a repair man today and it worked for 20 minutes and he left and it never turned back on. I’m getting sick from all this heat. I guess that’s it :/

babes u need to call ethics… shits illegal
vivnaomi4 points10m ago
Yeah legally you don’t have to work because working without ac is unethical. No need for you and your coworkers to put up with it.

You’re life and your partners lives are more important than this silly job. Please do not feel like you need to put up with these conditions in fear of retaliation or potentially losing your job.
You can refuse to work until they fix the AC, talk to your district manger about it if you need to and if you need to escalate it further call ethics and compliance.

I took advice called osha and ethics line today. And ended up leaving today with heat stroke so I thought it was time

Similar situation at another store in my district. My DM didn’t hesitate to close the store for 2 days to get it fixed. Partners in the store had a opportunity to still get their scheduled hours at neighboring stores. That’s how it should be done.
