Clean-play: a love/hate relationship (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by jadehernan
Hey all, I just got off of clean play and this is now my second time doing it. I hate how gross and tedious it is but I also love being able to wear comfy clothes and listen to my music and not really having to talk to anyone. However, the block I decided to do was what I thought would be fairly easy and I ended up falling behind trying to dust everything front and back of house. Do I not have to be super thorough? I didn’t even realize I was falling behind but I want to know your opinions/tips for clean play that’ll help me improve :)

Not sure if you’re scheduled for clean play only, or if you are there when the store is open, but doing the same clean play block every week helps. If I know that I’ll be back at it again next week, I usually won’t go super crazy and just roughly clean it. Complete other tasks to the best of your availability, then return to detail if you have downtime. Plus if I’m there the next day, I’ll detail what I can during my shift.

If you’re also there when store is open, doing small tasks in downtime is great. Cuts down the load and saves time so you can really clean the big things at the end of the night.

seconding all of this. on clean play days we try to clean things like the cup caddy, pastry cart, plexis, etc. before close so that after close we can focus on bigger/more time-consuming tasks. it also helps that it’s almost always 3 of the same 4 people scheduled to do clean play every week, so we’ve gotten really good at dividing and conquering
