I might just be overthinking things but… (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by SnooPuppers6741
So I’ve been working for about 5 months and I do know my way around things here, maybe a small question here or there but nothing major and I do keep to myself (like I never really engage in headset conversation or any conversation at all). But I don’t know if it’s just me, but there are 2 shifts that cause me a great deal deal of stress (one because she really good at her job so I just get nervous making mistakes… and the other because she’s just so condescending to me). The condescending one always treats me like deadweight in every situation and and will converse with everyone nicely but me, as well as make jokes. Honestly that’s not the main issue, which is… she’ll have me solo drive thru my whole shift like during peeks non stop (I am fast at drive thru than most, but a whole shift). At first I thought it was just because I was new, but after a month I realized she was just doing it to me and not the other employees that started off with me. I don’t know if I’m over thinking it but due to social anxiety (I’m actually diagnosed with it… not a TikTok diagnosis) I physically get sick when I have to talk to her. I also don’t want to bring race into it or think it’s a race problem, but I am the only black girl working in my location. I don’t know, I get super anxious when I know we’re working the same shift together like I want to call in sick…

I would talk to your manager about your concerns. maybe she will sit down with the both of you to mediate if your anxiety keeps you from approaching your shift. It's never easy knowing someone might have an issue with you and is treating you badly. I hope things get better!

I feel like that’s what I’m mostly scared of, if I bring it up and it’s nothing and the shift would be offended by me saying that. My sm knows I have major anxiety but I can work and still have short conversations with random people, it’s more towards people I see/talk with often.

Totally understand where you're coming from. But if I were your shift and you came to me even if there wasn't something I would appreciate it more than just assuming there was an issue. Whether there is one or not:) hopefully your manager is understanding as well as your shift.

Your feelings are valid!!

It’s sucks being put on solo drive thru on any given day, but every time you work with that specific ssv and for your entire shift??? That ain’t right. They may put you there because they know you’re good at that position and want/need a strong partner over there, but being there for your whole shift with no breaks isn’t fair to you.

Definitely have a chat with your SM and tell them how you’re feeling!

i recently worked at a cafe that had a shift lead that was similar. condescending towards me and always SO nice and jokes with everyone else. her tone would immediately change the second she had to talk to me. it was an awful feeling i’m sorry you’re dealing with this. i hope it gets resolved for you or u can find a better cafe:)
