labor - grande rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Ok_Investigator4314
so I heard that sbux made over A BILLION dollars in the first quarter of this year and they have the nerve to be getting strict about labor!?
long story short my store is a disaster because we’ve had three different managers in the past three months on top of typical bs like being severely short staffed, missing orders, closing early nearly everyday etc. so, our current manager scheduled us to have a store meeting this coming sunday which we DESPERATELY need. well because of labor we are now no longer allowed to have a meeting!??! are you kidding!?! we are crumbling at the seams and we can’t have a meeting bc you’re too worried about paying us all an extra 30 minutes?? this company is beyond greedy. and on top of that OTHER STORES HAVE BEEN TAKING OUR HOURS AND TIPS?? how is that okay!?

are you looking at revenue? B/C revenue is up for a lot of companies, but due to inflation, margins are down. Managers and executives tend to get bonuses based on profits, not just revenue. Investors also look at margins when factoring in the stock price. Executives and managers are also stock holders, even some store partners too.

So where do you cut costs to prop up margins? Labor, because fuck em, Howie needs a new boat.

This is a partner rant and you’re not a partner. If you were you would know that the managers do bonus of revenue and not profits and almost are the partners are share holders as we get stocks yearly…labour, yes is the easiest way to better margins but we have staffing expectations and managers can get into trouble for being to far below optimal coverage. Also all the partners got a raise ( less then they deserve) that would increase the cost of labour but I can assure you that the stores can afford it.

at my store shifts are no longer allowed to have more than 30 hours per week, most of us are already living paycheck to paycheck so this was really just the cherry on top

How have the other stores been taking your tips and hours? Because it sounds like some sketchy shit is happening at your store

I was told that another store had taken some of our hours so they could train people, I didn’t believe it at first but when I looked at the tip payout sheet it showed 5 people who are not ours that got some of our tips and the total tip able hours had been crossed out an lowered by like 36 hours!

Yeah. You’re right that is some sketchy shit. Your store earned and should have been scheduled those 36 hours with your partners as coverage in the floor, especially if they showed up on your tip sheet. It’s also ducked up because training shouldn’t be tipable hours in the first place. That is not okay or legit. I would complain to the DM because that’s not fair to the team. It also contributes to longer wait times and more asshats so it’s not good for Starbucks either. What’s that whole bs thing they say… “it’s bad for the customer experience”
