The thing that makes me MAD is how they act all gotcha when they’re like “no ice” or “no water” like OHHH WOAHHHH you saw a tiktok post???? Your friends nephew works at Starbucks in told you that???!!! Like WOAH this lady really knows her stuff we can’t short her on her drink because she knows our secret.
Like what literally ask for 2 ice cubs or light ice nicely no need to be snotty and act like you have this insider information.
Had a BAD shift today so this was a good way to let out some steam:)

I hate light ice most of the time too personally like I don’t want lukewarm coffee with more milk than it’s supposed to come with. Like who cares about “getting your money’s worth” if I’m paying $6 for a drink I want it to be genuinely enjoyable and palatable.

It's fine, I promise. This will pass, it is a phase, as many things are. Most of these people will find themselves really irritated over their slightly warmer than they expect drinks, or having to go out of their way to get ice to put in their drinks. This has happened before and will happen again, until then just roll your eyes (when the customers can't see, maybe while your head is in the ice bin?) and expect it to be a big deal for a bit and then just... stop.

They forget that ice is actually not at all free. It costs money for the machine itself and maintenance on it. Water actually has to be paid for through the city, it isn't actually free either, and then has to be filtered. Starbucks puts a lot of money behind their water, even though I could complain about that too. Stop worrying about water or ice, and keep paying attention to the real problems of why SB lets customers be horrible people to their employees. This is not the way it has always been, actually, and they need to do better.

A customer ordered a brown sugar shaken espresso then asked for light ice. I asked if she wanted extra milk or room in the cup she paused for a while then said "nevermind, I guess the hack doesn't work anymore." Like?? Shaken espressos are extra ice and less milk. What do you think we do when you get lattes with light ice? No ice lattes are the worst.

My favourite is when people will order a grande in a venti cup with light ice and expect it to be full…

We have one family that comes in and asks for two Trenta strawberry açai refreshers with lemonade. They also ask for three venti cups of ice. They take their Starbucks home and make their own drinks. I’m at the point now where I want to tell them to cut their shit. What makes them think they can ask for this is because no one has ever told them no. So now we all are having to serve these people 3 drinks when they’re only paying for 2.

I don’t listen to those customers. I just calmly tell them it’s standard to every store to fill up to the appropriate line with ice

I watch my local coffee shop make espresso beverages all the time and the FIRST thing they do is shovel ice into the cup to the rims. I don’t understand the ice predicament the public has created

That’s why I would always shake the beverage and then use the lid to hold back the ice as I pour it into the cup before adding the ice to the drink. customers are in awe and you use the standard amount of ice with no headaches.

not sure about American/europe standards but here in Singapore most of the iced drinks we use the tall ice scoop,


unless customer specified like less water/tea/milk more ice honestly my location we are quite relaxed in drink rules,

When I order/make my own drinks, I ALWAYS go LT Ice.. always lasts longer
