I just saw a snapchat story on the discover page that was like “STARBUCKS IS SCAMMING YALL” and showed a guy pour a trenta with no ice into like 4 grandes with ice. im sure y’all know what im talking about
IM SO SICK OF THIS
these kinds of stories just make people mad at us and make them give us attitude when they order. the stories also use way more ice than we actually use. the amount of time some snarky ass 40 y/o woman orders her venti with “LIGHT ICE BECAUSE YOU GUYS PUT WAYYY TOO MUCH ICE 😤🙄” is upsetting. We have standards to follow, it’s not the baristas fault. take it up with actual Starbucks. or! or, this one’s crazy, or you could ask for light ice! wow! revolutionary!
another reason im sick of it is because it causes an increase of orders that are a trenta drink with no ice and then they ask for 6 tall cups of ice on the side!
instead of “starbucks is scamming you” those kind of posts should be called “grown adults learn about water displacement”

People do the same thing with cocktails.
“It’s half ice!” Yeah it’s supposed to be. Asking for light or no ice isn’t going to get you more liquor.
borrowedurmumsvcard [OP]102 points10m ago
that reminds me of this one lady who ordered, and I quote, “a venti shaken espresso with light almond milk and very light ice” and we handed it out and it was like half empty and she was so baffled as to why and in turn, I was baffled because WHAT ELSE WOULD BE IN THE CUP??? we’re not giving you more espresso for free, and you wanted light everything else WHAT??? still confused to this day
Responsible_Snow710950 points10m ago
Lmao she wAnTeD mOrE cOfFeE. I feel like thats what some people expect a lady once ordered iced espresso. I forget how many shots it was but she left a reciew for my store saying that "there was not enough espresso in it. It wasnt a full cup." Lmao u control that by choosing the amount of shots u want and the cup size for it to go in. Were absolutely not guna give u more free espresso than the amount u paid for just to fIlL tHe CuP lmao wth man these types of people are funny
Assiqtaq22 points10m ago
This is actually one of the reasons I much preferred the old shot glasses. "Look, this is a shot of expresso. Your drink gets four of these, no matter what size the cup is. Do you want four of these in a smaller cup, or a larger one?" I guess you can show them the new one and say, "this is four shots" but it doesn't seem to have the same weight.
Responsible_Snow71095 points10m ago
Yea but she didnt complain at the store lol only left a review. But even if people dont recognize how much each shot looks like, it doesn't mean that you have to give a bad review about the fact that there wasn't "enough" espresso in your cup because u decided to pay for a specific amount. She got no milk or anything. Just shots over ice in a cup. I wish i remembered the size cup it was but she cant ask for a specific cup size to have a specific amount of shots in it, not bring up any concerns in store, then go online and leave a bad review for the store saying that there wasn't enough espresso in the cup. If she doesn't know what the shots look like or has any questions then she could have brought it up to us but I just found it silly that she thought that there wasn't enough espresso in her cup
Tdawwg787 points10m ago
The only partial go around here would be to suggest long shots but that would a) slow down bar, b) still not full the cup and c) affect taste. So never mind lol
Responsible_Snow71096 points10m ago
Lol she just wanted more shots but didnt wana pay for it. She wanted the cup to be filled all the way without paying for more shots
biladi7925 points10m ago
Bartenders always seem annoyed when I ask for light ice 🫠 I KNOW THERE’S NOT EXTRA LIQUOR I JUST HAVE SENSITIVE TEETH OK
brokenleftjoycon17 points10m ago
They’ve dealt with way too many people complaining/fighting about not getting more liquor (and perhaps just getting more mixer). People get aggressive at Starbucks but they can get especially aggressive at a bar.
rudebii19 points10m ago
There isn’t a bar in this country that’s going to be like “oh, they don’t want ice, let’s fill the cup with more product!” Maybe if the mixer is soda water or coke, they’ll top it off if requested.
But somehow customers at Starbucks expect more milk, one of the most expensive ingredients, when they don’t want ice?
Make it make sense.
sidebirb87 points10m ago
maybe… just maybe… they’re so much ice because it keeps your drink cold 🤨🤨
NickiTheNotSoThicki45 points10m ago
The thing that makes me MAD is how they act all gotcha when they’re like “no ice” or “no water” like OHHH WOAHHHH you saw a tiktok post???? Your friends nephew works at Starbucks in told you that???!!! Like WOAH this lady really knows her stuff we can’t short her on her drink because she knows our secret. Like what literally ask for 2 ice cubs or light ice nicely no need to be snotty and act like you have this insider information. Had a BAD shift today so this was a good way to let out some steam:)
borrowedurmumsvcard [OP]19 points10m ago
literally they think they’re so smart and walk out all smug smh
meegy12324 points10m ago
I hate light ice most of the time too personally like I don’t want lukewarm coffee with more milk than it’s supposed to come with. Like who cares about “getting your money’s worth” if I’m paying $6 for a drink I want it to be genuinely enjoyable and palatable.
Assiqtaq24 points10m ago
It's fine, I promise. This will pass, it is a phase, as many things are. Most of these people will find themselves really irritated over their slightly warmer than they expect drinks, or having to go out of their way to get ice to put in their drinks. This has happened before and will happen again, until then just roll your eyes (when the customers can't see, maybe while your head is in the ice bin?) and expect it to be a big deal for a bit and then just... stop.
They forget that ice is actually not at all free. It costs money for the machine itself and maintenance on it. Water actually has to be paid for through the city, it isn't actually free either, and then has to be filtered. Starbucks puts a lot of money behind their water, even though I could complain about that too. Stop worrying about water or ice, and keep paying attention to the real problems of why SB lets customers be horrible people to their employees. This is not the way it has always been, actually, and they need to do better.
actively_not_active16 points10m ago
A customer ordered a brown sugar shaken espresso then asked for light ice. I asked if she wanted extra milk or room in the cup she paused for a while then said "nevermind, I guess the hack doesn't work anymore." Like?? Shaken espressos are extra ice and less milk. What do you think we do when you get lattes with light ice? No ice lattes are the worst.
Willing_Adeptness_4013 points10m ago
My favourite is when people will order a grande in a venti cup with light ice and expect it to be full…
Swimming-Fee-244511 points10m ago
We have one family that comes in and asks for two Trenta strawberry açai refreshers with lemonade. They also ask for three venti cups of ice. They take their Starbucks home and make their own drinks. I’m at the point now where I want to tell them to cut their shit. What makes them think they can ask for this is because no one has ever told them no. So now we all are having to serve these people 3 drinks when they’re only paying for 2.
borrowedurmumsvcard [OP]8 points10m ago
I have a family that orders literally the exact same thing wtf
darkwolf52310 points10m ago
I don’t listen to those customers. I just calmly tell them it’s standard to every store to fill up to the appropriate line with ice
imlysscining6 points10m ago
I watch my local coffee shop make espresso beverages all the time and the FIRST thing they do is shovel ice into the cup to the rims. I don’t understand the ice predicament the public has created
YellowSphinx6 points10m ago
That’s why I would always shake the beverage and then use the lid to hold back the ice as I pour it into the cup before adding the ice to the drink. customers are in awe and you use the standard amount of ice with no headaches.
Fantastic13575 points10m ago
Wait what’s the point of this?
borrowedurmumsvcard [OP]4 points10m ago
true! I do this with refreshers
darkness_snores1 points10m ago
not sure about American/europe standards but here in Singapore most of the iced drinks we use the tall ice scoop,
unless customer specified like less water/tea/milk more ice honestly my location we are quite relaxed in drink rules,
absolutefoo1 points10m ago
wow! revolutionary! 😂
SandtheB1 points10m ago
When I order/make my own drinks, I ALWAYS go LT Ice.. always lasts longer
foomeitshitme1 points10m ago
Some people are bell ends and don’t deserve the publicity.

okay? i agree but complain to corporate about it, not the barista subreddit. we make it per the very specific instructions
honey_bay9 points10m ago
are you just a customer? lol

sure, but i think the entire point of this sub was to be able to talk about this stuff without the customers opinion possibly ?
