Pedo customer (TW talk of SA) (self.starbucksbaristas)

One of our regulars asked one of my partners when she turned 18. She didn’t think anything of it so she told him it wasn’t till January. He told her he asked because he and I quote “was going to molest her” and as he was leaving he told her she better be ready for January because he’s going to “get her” after he left she said he sat in his car and started at her for a long time. Fast forward to a week later I see him in the store. I asked why he isn’t kicked out and I got the reply that “too much time had passed since it happened so they aren’t going to talk to him” As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse it makes me sick and angry that they just tried to brush it off and I want to do everything to make sure nothing bad happens. What could I or should I do? Who should I talk to?

Edit: I talked to someone and they said the DM knows and they said they said they are just waiting for him to come in and say something else and if they get three instances they can kick him out. She said it’s just ‘hearsay’ because no one else heard him say it except the girl he was talking to even tho an incident report was filed as well. I feel like this still isn’t enough for me and further action should be taken. I don’t know how they can just wait for it to happen to someone else. Apparently he works at the school around here too. Do you have to wait for it to happen three times? Should I work on contacting someone above the DM since she’s already aware of the situation and just said we need to wait for it to happen to two other people?

Uh. No. What the fuck? If you’re US/Canada/UK please call ethics & compliance. That’s a direct threat that your manager is refusing to do anything about.

I would see about making a police report. And call the DM and Ethics. Fuck that noise
foxxy_roxxy 38 points 10m ago
call your DM and if they wont do anything. id call corporate. id also see if anyone else has had issues with this perv and collectively call corporate. that is fucked up in so many ways. if this happened in my store i would have refused service no matter how long ago it happened and probably called the cops.

we’ve had gross people and it doesn’t matter if it’s been 1 minute or 1 month since the incident happened, the baristas safety is the biggest concern. if your manager won’t have a talk with him, call the DM and Ethics. i’m sure they’d love to hear that your sm is ignoring a direct threat to a minor, a sexual assault threat too.

Call the cops. See if you can get a TRO (temporary restraining order), so he can’t come to the store.

Starbucks has times and again failed to protect partners from sexual assault, from coworkers or customers. I couldn’t count on the siren acting quickly in your interests.

Stay safe.

I was 19 the first time I worked for Starbucks. I had a very creepy man SNIFF me and some what he said was comments of how “delicious” I smelled-no direct threat, just me going to manager and being like “wtf can I do about this creep” every time he was spotted, I was hidden in back room (told to just do kitchen things or even just hang out in back) each of the times he came back in. After the second time he came in & I was hidden, he was banned from the store. Telling this story was all to say: your DM should be and could be doing more than they are.

I bet etj8cs, your DM, and if needed, you RM, would love to hear about an SM not taking action about a customer threatening to sexually assault a minor. If the guy keeps it up let the cops know too, just don't expect as much from them.
Mea-fae_Owl73 4 points 10m ago
That was a direct threat and should have been reported via an Incident Report the moment the minor partner said something. And cops called. Call PCC and Ethics if nothing is being done by DM. If he is still allowed to come in, every time he does watch him, if he stares or makes anyone uncomfortable the SSV should ask for the behavior to stop and report it via Incident Report. All it takes is three to get him banned though he should have been banned/arrested on that first threat. This is not right.

Oh heck no, call the police, call his school, raise all kinds of heck. He better not touch that damn girl or anybody else. Sick.

It’s not hearsay if the person who experienced it says it. They may be concerned it will come down to he said / she said but this isn’t a court of law, it’s Starbucks and a creepy guy threatening an employee
Due_Complex_5581 3 points 10m ago
Are you able to get this guys name? Review any video and snap a photo of him. I worked a lot in cases like this. It’s not easy to getting him banned and at the same time it’s not hard. You have to have good solid proof. The store is trying to avoid litigation for defamation of character. Unfortunately that’s how things work in big corporations. Also if he does return again, you could record him on your cellphone and ask him to repeat what he said. Aside from that get the team to help by sending the young lady to the back when he arrives. Forgive me for the long post. I had a stalker at a job and my store was super helpful and would send me to the back when he came in . Eventually he never returned . It took two times. I’m so sorry your going through this .

Absolutely tell everyone with authority until something happens. HR, higher up the corporate latter, threaten to report to the police. They are supposed to protect you guys, he made a direct threat, that does not maintain the third place and puts that partner in danger there is no way it’s policy to not kick him out. You all need to kick up a major fuss until someone with authority gets off their ass and does something about it
Vegan_Sweetie 2 points 10m ago
Um, OF COURSE there isn’t anyone else there, creeps are only creepy when their cowardly selves feel like they’re the top of the power dynamic—aka, the don’t say or do creepy things with witnesses.

My point is, in Sexual harassment and assault cases, you can’t demand additional witnesses, it’s illogical.

Call the school where he works and report him there also! He shouldnt be working with kids!
Enough_Raise_7167 2 points 10m ago
THIS! Why is this not a concern??
purseEffphony 3 points 10m ago
Also IDK why they arent asking him to leave based on "heresay" This is not in accordance with the training I recieved.

ETA: it falls under workplace harrassment from a customer and should be reported to the Ethics hotline along with the DM's advice. Because they are essentially allowing this minor to be harrassed. There could be bigger legal liability problems for the store/corporate if they continue to allow it to occur and heaven forbid he escalates his behavior and harms her.

Holy fuck
Lravs 2 points 10m ago
Honestly? I’d transfer to a different store and not tell anyone where I was going. Call the police!
testingaurora 1 points 10m ago
Try to ensure you’re being walked to your car if you close or are on the phone with someone if that’s not possible
darkwolf523 1 points 10m ago
Well….judging by the comments, I’ll say call ethic and compliance as well as a police report and another incident report if this is the second or third time this happened.

Also what the absolute fuck ?
