I Will Make It As It Is Ordered(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by hahaheyyy
So, you've walked up to the counter. The barista greets you, asks you what they can get started for you.
"A tall iced coffee!" "Great, would you still like the classic sweetener or cream?" "No sweetener, light cream"
Great!
The beautiful barista at cold bar begins preparing your drink.
But, oh wait! The customer forgot! They wanted extra caramel drizzle, double blended, with whipped cream and heavy half and half.
So they begin barking orders at you from across the bar.
"Extra caramel. No, extra EXTRA! and super heavy cream! I orded this blended, and I ordered a venti- not a tall."
Zero please. Zero thank-you. Zero kindness. Zero humanity.
Oops! Barista brain! I forgot that this whole interaction is a performance and I'm a submissive clown!
Here I go! Doing my stupid silly cold bar dance! Making the stupid silly drink that you never paid or asked for! Silly me, I forgot to read minds!
I HATE MAKING THE MOMENT RIGHT. GET BACK IN LINE AND ORDER WHAT YOU WANTED.
(eat my dick Howie Wowie Schultz Cult, it's fun to make a cool drink, but you know you hate getting backed up during peak times for faults that are not your own, too)

Nope. You get what is on the ticket or you go back and pay for the proper drink.

Perfect your customer service tone and give them the what for. Seriously.
"Oh! Your ticket actually doesn't say x, y, and z! Head over to the front and they'll help out - keeping our inventory correct is SO important since the computer makes the order." It works provided you can keep the other baristas you work with from ruining it by trying to "save the day." If your well-meaning co-workers try that, turn to them directly and say (in front of the customer) "Maybe we can allow it this time, but from now on we NEED to follow these guidelines as a store to avoid customer confusion."
Sometimes it's easier to do the thing and you don't have the energy. Just keep in mind you're only screwing yourself over by teaching them they can treat you that way.

I hate how we have to just accept people being horrible to us and just smile and do whatever they ask with no if ands or buts like we’re robots or something
Digitalwitness238 points10m ago
it’s so dehumanizing. and customers quickly learn that they can get away with treating baristas like garbage. starbucks has told them that it’s okay
Enough_Raise_71676 points10m ago
We don't have to accept people being horrible to us. As long as you're not breaking Starbucks policy, you can stand up for yourself. You just have to say it the right way.

Exactly this. I’m not taking bullshit from a customer, and I sure as hell won’t stand by while a customer gives any of my partners shit. Your $5.45 is not important to me at all. Oh, you want to talk to the manager?! I am the manager, now take your bad mood outside because I won’t have you starting my day like that…and this happened today at 5am when we opened. I refuse.
Enough_Raise_71672 points10m ago
👏🏼 I wish all managers were like you.

I stopped being nice when we had 56 received and so e old man started cursing me out for not getting his pour over out to him fast enough.....I told him that if he wanted it that bad he should go home and do it himself.....the whole store cheered :D

I’ve heard often that Howard hated being called Howie, so that’s what I call him exclusively lol

“Uh I took ur order and u didn’t say anything of that. So come into the cafe/go back to the register I’d have to charge u for what you didn’t order.”
