So confused (short rant, double cup) (self.starbucksbaristas)

We got a couple of new shifts at my store, a pretty long time ago now. At the time, our store was between managers. So the shifts we got were trained by partners from other stores.

We were under the impression that the people training them were probably ASMs. We weren’t actually told that, but the other partners on my team and I just kind of assumed that was the case.

Looking back on it, I think our shifts may have been trained by other shifts. Not ASMs or SMs. Is that allowed? I thought SMs had to train SSVs.

I made a similar post on the regular Starbucks Reddit, but I didn’t really get a straight answer. I’m pretty sure that yes, SMs are officially supposed to train new SSVs, but can another SSV do the official training? Not just shifts helping shifts, but the ACTUAL OFFICIAL training. Or is that not allowed?

I ask because one of the shifts ended up being basically perfect almost immediately, but the other had a really rough start (specifically the one that was partially trained by other shifts). And it seems odd to me that a SSV could train another SSV.

When I was an SSV I trained 4 up and coming ssv and finished training with them. So I think it’s was entirely up to what the SM wants and feels comfortable with doing. As of right now the SM/ASM are the only one who are supposed to be doing the training. But who knows if the SM will follow it if it’s an inconvenience to em.

I have been trained by my SM and fellow SSVs.

The other SSVs did some of your official training? Or were they just there for your practice shifts?

They did some of it yeah. My SM taught me opening, another SSV taught me how to cash up. Rest I learned through training or picking it up on shift.
