Does this qualify for overtime?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by peepeepoopaccount
Last night I was supposed to work 3-7 but offered to swap with a coworker for her 1:30-10p forgetting I work 6a-12:30 today. Last night the shift asked me how we got that approved by the manager (I assume he did cause my coworker I swapped with said she cleared it with him and the schedule was changed) and that I might get overtime? Since idk if it’s allowed to end work at 10pm and work at 6am the next morning. Do I get overtime?

There’s no Starbucks policy saying you can’t do that - there is a policy that managers aren’t supposed to schedule you with less than 8hrs between shifts, but you can volunteer to do that

I see, that’s what I figured.

at starbucks you only get time and a half for overtime if you’re over 40 hours for the week and surpass it.

No overtime for you sadly. The 8 hour limit resets at the next calendar day. So you went back to 0 hours worked for the day at midnight last night. If you get over 40 hours in the week howeverz then you'll hit overtime for any time worked past 40.

In my state you would be entitled to 100$ for working a shift with less than an 11 hour gap. For that reason managers always make sure that any swaps won’t result in a “clopen”
