Why are so many baristas bullies? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Affectionate_Fart
Like legit asking…it seems like the majority are just curt and nasty :/

Who's hurting you, will fight with all the cake pops
Affectionate_Fart [OP] 13 points 10m ago
I’m just so tired of asking people to do the right thing…or asking them to do their job…I get that they don’t care…but you can’t have (roughly) 100’s missing from the safe, people in leggings and sitting on the counters…and think that’s okay. Like in what establishment does that sound okay…I’m tired of asking them to do better and busting my ass so hard only to get attitude and bullshit. Honestly at this point fuck them. :/
shipssiren 4 points 10m ago
W h a t. You said hundreds?????
Affectionate_Fart [OP] 8 points 10m ago
On average.
I’ve had varying amounts.
People think counting the safe is optional. It’s great.
Even better when the iPad and book say two totally different amounts. Hell It has been opened overnight..the shift didn’t care that they left it open (and was off by a decent amount). Cause why would you care about that when you’re leaving early to go hang with friends…
shipssiren 3 points 10m ago
Someone has got to be robbing you, that's less of all baristas, and more of your baristas sound very, horribly negligent. You could absolutely report all of them. I'd definitely collect evidence.
vices-president 2 points 10m ago
This isn’t related but one time I said “people” as referring to my coworkers, at a shift meeting and my DM corrected me by cutting me off to say “partners.” Sorry it just popped in my head 😂
hahaheyyy 14 points 10m ago
Mental illness is one thing. Not remaining a happy, smiling, cheerful, connecting partner ? Fine.

But say please and thank you. Say excuse me, or even just the classic restaurant "behind" to fellow baristas.

Attitude is everything, and energy leaches love projecting their rude and volatile attitude on others.

It takes hours get past the nasty attitude of a coworker.

As someone who tends to overthink things, I often presume that I am the cause for strife. And then I remember that I was raised better.
Affectionate_Fart [OP] 3 points 10m ago
I’m still reeling from this morning…I’m just annoyed at this point because I don’t deserve nasty attitudes from coworkers and am tempted to let them hang themselves (metaphorically…)

as a gen z barista… we as a whole are not the problem. i myself am a hard and respectful worker, and so are all the other gen z baristas i’ve worked with. i personally have found that gen x baristas tend to be the most difficult to work with, but i’m not going around blaming their entire generation. you’re bound to get a few bad apples in every generation of workers and those people should be your managers problem to fix. if you have an entire store full of bad workers, that definitely seems like a management issue.
thegingerhannah 6 points 10m ago
I swear every other post on this sub is you complaining about your baristas/gen z. At some point maybe you're the problem.
Necessary_Low939 -4 points 10m ago
It’s not complaining if it’s true
Necessary_Low939 4 points 10m ago
Man, u again Lolol. Just kidding. Ur store sounds so bad… and I don’t get why people wear leggings or try to dress outside of their dress code—u are literally paid to wear certain clothes so just stick to the dress code. Like if I see people wear leggings i straight up wanna flick some hot water on their legs. 100s missing shouldn’t happen. Ur sm need to write up people. No workers should sit outside and do nothing… lol ur store sounds so bad.

Bro just take it easy and stop caring too much. Unless u close.
meegy123 3 points 10m ago
Unfortunate truth is, if multiple people are giving you the same issue, the issue isn’t likely them. It’s something else in the environment. People are so varied personality wise and if the majority of people working with you have a bad attitude there is more likely something deeper going on.

I am so thankful that my fiancé and I were in a position that we could afford for me to step down as a SSV a few months ago. The baristas at my store never listened to any of the SSV’s and would straight up tell us no when we’d ask them to do something. Also would start fights with customers…”I took your order I know you said whipped cream not with cream” as an example. New management has completely changed that and it’s much better but ya it sucks pretty much being bullied by the baristas.

Starbucks in general imo attracts a lot of entitled workers
Traditional-Emu-1403 -9 points 10m ago
I think it’s a generation issue. Gen Z seems to be producing a lot of entitled brats who are entering the workforce
Nraveles11 0 points 10m ago
Aye born in 2000 here, and this is bullshit. You’re really taking a small amount from a generation and then saying they’re all entitled brats lmao. Gen z at my store is by far the most hardworking age group and could prob run the store better than my store manager and a few shifts who are in the olde generation.
Traditional-Emu-1403 0 points 10m ago
I haven’t met a Gen Z that isn’t chronically online and entitled. I’ve met some great cuspers who are amazing workers, but the early twenties-late teen crowd are most often gossiping at work, very involved in drama, angry that they have to go their job, and very self involved. If that doesn’t apply to you then you’re a rare one and that’s awesome for you.
Nraveles11 0 points 10m ago
Chronically online isn’t an issue.

Is it entitlement or self respect?

The early twenties and late teens are literally the hardest working at my store, again, and most of my friends are definitely the hardest workers I know. The older people at my job are the ones who boss everyone as if they know anything yet make drinks incorrectly and don’t know the recipes or say shit about us behind our backs.

And being involved in drama and gossiping isn’t a bad thing. Sorry if exposing the bullshit people do is a bad thing to you lmao. I gossip and talk shit because I work in a very toxic environment and saying anything will get me reprimanded instead of my manager actually caring about what I have to say.

“Very self involved” and??? That’s called putting yourself first, which is something everyone should do. No job is worth sacrificing your mental health for a job that you’re 1000% replaceable in.

Judging from the downvotes seems like you got a lot of “gen z” mad lmao.
Traditional-Emu-1403 1 points 10m ago
Oh so you’re offended because you’re a gossipy 22 year old who thinks their friends are the hard workers. Got it. 😂
The ranting and raving says all it needs to say about you, your work isn’t “toxic”, it’s you and your attitude. Around 25 when the real work exists for you, you’ll understand.
Affectionate_Fart [OP] -8 points 10m ago
I’m honestly scared for the next generation. Like we had our issues years ago, but like if you got cocached you apologized and acknowledged what happened and then didn’t do it again. It’s scary because this is our next workforce and…it’s really scary.
yungfroggie -6 points 10m ago
cus a lot of baristas are young people who feel all high and mighty about themselves bc they work in a coffee shop :/
Nraveles11 -1 points 10m ago
Lmao looking at the past things you posted and your view on “gen z” I kinda don’t believe half the shit you say now. You’ve posted a good bit of stuff just shitting on other baristas and playing the victim. I don’t think it’s just them but it’s the store overall.

It’s not “bratty” or “entitlement” it’s “if you don’t treat me with respect I won’t treat you with it”.

I don’t think you’re respecting them. I don’t think you respect them. Period. I think (you’re an SSV right?) you might have this high and mighty attitude that will piss people off (I have 3 at my store who are HATED for that reason). The SSV’s who act like they’re ok our level as a barista run the floor better and have better relations with us. When we work as a team where everyone is on the same level, it works better.

You’re out here saying “omg im so worried bout gen z they’re gonna be entitled brats working for us in the future :(((((“ is so fucked up honestly when gen z at my store are the hardest workers and could run the store better than the older SSV’s and even my store manager (I was born in 2000 so i don’t even know what I am anymore tbh).

It’s condescending an really arrogant honestly. You’re vibes are off and we can all tell. That’s prob why they aren’t nice to you or nasty with you. Hell I wouldn’t even talk to someone outside of basic questions and hey/goodbye because I ain’t trynna ruin my day.

Just a thought. Idc if anyone downvotes I’m just putting my perspective in cuz you’ve posted so much about other baristas but never took the time to look at maayyybbeee when all these other baristas are going at you, it might just be something you’re doing as well.
