no visors or headbands, only hats?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Angelalmanzar21
so my shift told us today that we HAVE to wear hats. i usually wear a visor and a bunch of my coworkers wear headbands. i mean does it really matter what we’re wearing as long as it covers our hair? i find it absurd to have to wear hats. when i started we didn’t have to wear hats, then we had to wear something as long as it covered our hair but now it HAS to be hats? like come on

Might depend on the country or even state your in, but in Florida Starbucks visors and headbands are allowed. Starbucks literally has its own visor so idk what power trip that ssv is on
Angelalmanzar21 [OP]12 points10m ago
do you know if there’s anywhere i can check that? i feel like he’s been power tripping a lil lately he wants everyone to reply with thank you every time the customer says thank you in the drive thru (it’s a nice thing don’t get me wrong but i don’t like when they just come up with new rules)

If you go into your store iPad and go to the store resources app there should be a whole file on dress code
heyitsmaria243 points10m ago
I was taught during my interview they required it , so I’m surprised to see other baristas saying otherwise
Mea-fae_Owl732 points10m ago
I don’t know if it can be looked up on the county public website. You can always email your DM or call PCC. I had a DM that required the whole thank you as a reply. She made up her own rules all the time and got away with it.

Well, to be fair part of our barista training is that we are supposed to say thank you before they say thank you. So if they say thank you, you ARE supposed to say thank you back. Thats not them making a new rule up.

This depends on the laws where you live. Google the food service regulations for your state/city/province - some areas allow visors and headbands while others require your hair to be completely covered.
If that doesn’t help, ask your SM to clarify the rules. In places that require full hair coverings by law, Starbucks allows you to wear other coverings like headwraps or hijabs. This was just reaffirmed last week with the dress code update. It’s possible your shift was misinformed.

Yea I’m in Houston and my district or county doesn’t allow visitors and I’m HEATED (meant visors but I’m keeping the original)

If you are in a corporate store unless this is district rules for some odd reason I don’t understand this. Corporate dress code does not require any hair coverings.
Angelalmanzar21 [OP]6 points10m ago
i work in a corporate store in MA
5AV1OR8 points10m ago
I’d email your DM and ask about this or talk to your SM if it’s not coming from them. I’ve only heard of franchise stores requiring hats/visors/etc. not corporate so I’d be kinda shocked this is the case
th3_thing4 points10m ago
Follow MA corporate barista here. You have to wear a head covering and Starbucks visors are the only visors allowed if I'm remembering correctly. They sell them on the Starbucks website. Couple of my coworkers strictly wear the visor and I have two that stay in my car when I wanna switch things up/show off my hair
nicolelynnejones2 points10m ago
I’m in a corporate MA store too and we can only wear full hats or hair nets
yungfroggie3 points10m ago
some states have different food safety and heat safety requirements so it probably varies im guessing?
vanilllacakez3 points10m ago
The Starbucks visor is a dress code approved. So Im sure a plain colored visor within the core colors would also acceptable. Talk to your manager bc that sounds uptight
4filth2 points10m ago
it doesn’t matter if it’s “dress code-approved” depending on where you work. for example, in Los Angeles County you need to wear a hat no exceptions
insertusernameplease1 points10m ago
It depends on the health code in their area, mine doesn’t allow visors either but we can wear thick headbands.
benderson9032 points10m ago
It’s decided on a county by county basis. whatever the county you live in decided is acceptable is the standard that your store has to follow. If the county changed the standard then your store would have to comply with the update
moonbean372 points10m ago
my state forces us to wear hats too. it’s probably a DM enforcing rules via your SSV
PoppyPancakes2 points10m ago
Rules go by county as well. Where I am we cannot wear a headband as a hat but we can do visors, beanies, hats, wraps, and bandannas. The company sells dress code approved visors so I see no reason why you wouldn’t be allowed to wear one.
Lightheaded_gamer2 points10m ago
I was told depending on the state that you can wear visors and headbands as long as you wear a hairnet underneath ( my ssv told me this and I remembered Florida being one of the states brought up).
bunnylo2 points10m ago
in some states (US) you aren’t even required to wear anything on your head. I started Starbies in NY and we weren’t told we had to wear anything, just our hair pulled back of course. but when I moved to NC we had to wear hats/visors.
alexadegrange1 points10m ago
Any NC food/drink place is required to wear a hat or visor of some sort :( I hate it
eggospoptart1 points10m ago
NYC metro area doesn't require headwear (:
zuchinnipolice1 points10m ago
I’m a SSV in LA county and my DM lets us wear headbands as long as they’re the wide ones (I wear the Boho Bandeau brand usually). I’m under the impression that as long as hair is pulled back and held back, you’ll be okay. I wouldn’t try pulling up to work in those little soccer headbands though lol

What state r u in
Angelalmanzar21 [OP]1 points10m ago
MA
Necessary_Low9391 points10m ago
Honestly. It sounds like what ur shift or sm wants to enforce. Some stores are like that. My first store (long long long time ago), the sm onIy allow us wear all black when the color palette was black white and khaki. Anyway, if starbucks didn’t allow visors, they wouldn’t make them with their logo—I don’t know about headbands tho. Do wear a hairnet tho if u wear these.
clouds1830 points10m ago
if its a health code then yes it has to be the hats bc it requires a full head covering. or a hair net if you really wanna wear the visor.
