what is “spotify imputed” on my paycheck? (self.starbucksbaristas)

i was just looking at my most recent paystub and noticed that there was “spotify imputed” on there with some amounts, does anyone know what this is? i’ve never seen it until recently

"imputed" means they're adding that money to your paycheck to cover the benefit, since it's a taxable benefit. If they didn't put that in your paycheck, it wouldn't be free because you'd be paying the tax on it, even if you aren't paying for the actual subscription

No worries! It's a common point of confusion lol plus nobody ever teaches people what "imputed" means... I had to look it up back when I was a barista coz I'd never seen it before!

Starbucks offers you a free Spotify Premium subscription, but you have to pay taxes on the monetary value of the subscription. That line on your paystub basically means you’re being taxed as if you were earning an extra $9 per month.

oooh okay thank you so much for the explanation!! now im also a college student and could probably get spotify for like $5 a month or whatever their offer is, do you think that would be cheaper? or maybe it’s just easier to have the free spotify through starbucks

Think of how much of your check is taxed. Is it more than 55%. If not then just paying the tax is better.

for me i go on my phone and there’s a little square to the left of your paycheck (i think it’s near the date or smth?) and you click the square and it should pop up! make sure you have pop ups enabled on your browser too, i’ve had that problem before
