Somebody just posted this on r/mildlyinfuriating. It is not that serious. It's literally only to make sure that u recognize it's ur drink when the name is called out. You're not signing up for anything.(i.redd.it)

Mark with a C. “Cark”
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]19 points10m ago
What i dont get tho is why this person was so pressed about it because if all they said audibly was "winter with a y" than maybe it goes where the "i" is or where the "e" is or maybe the person on register thought the customer was saying that because its a unique or unusual name so they assumed in their head "yinter? Why did they say it like that instead of just spelling it out" but it could have been spelled incorrectly in several ways so i just didn't understand why it was a big deal 😭
MrsOceanGrown13 points10m ago
Oh for sure it’s the customers fault for trying to be cool by saying her name like that. She should have spelled it out if she’s SO concerned. And it obvi wasn’t malicious, just a mistake. Literally yesterday i spelled out Courtney but mistakenly forgot the T. So it said “Courney”. As soon as i saw i did that i told her oops im sorry i forgot the T i didn’t mean to do that. And she laughed. But if i didn’t catch it who knows what would have went down 😂
Also, some days i can’t even hear the customers when they say their name so i ask 95% of them to just spell your name for me. Even Sarah, Brian like those names have sooo many variations, and I’ve found it makes great connections when you ask them to spell it out. They feel cared for 🤪
Edit:typo
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]4 points10m ago
Yea we have one shift supervisor who always asks for spelling and even tells them she does so since theres many variations for common names or whatever. And like people make mistakes typing customer names on there. I kno i have lol. Like its not that serious. This isn't any legal documents or anything along those lines. Its just to identify someone so they get the correct drink. Sometimes when im typing out a name for a customer and i miss the second letter for example, sometimes ill just leave it and we have never had an issue where someone got mad or frustrated at us for a misspelled name.
Then we also used to have another partner maybe a little over a year ago who would try to make connections with people and compliment them on their names and some people got offended or like weirded out. Like there was a guy who was named Fran. He came in and placed his order. My coworker at the register said to the guy "oh cool. Thats a unique name! U dont hear that too often" and the guy got defensive and said "uhh yess...thats my name" and gave the dirtiest glare at my coworker and i felt so bad for him lol like idk why people get so defensive. Its starbucks. Its literally just ur name on a piece of sticker to identify that u are grabbing the correct drink
MrsOceanGrown4 points10m ago
Yeah that’s literally the world we live in today. I understand people standing up for discriminating comments but this is such a little thing. If i got offended at someone making a comment about my name, i would just let it go. I called a customer A-Aron like the substitute teacher skit, and he didn’t like that either 😂 i didn’t care it was totally worth it
totallyNotEvie85893 points10m ago
it's always the customers with plain ass names like Kevin or Liz that spell out their names, and only ever once has someone with a less common name spelled it automatically. everytime Karen immediately starts spelling her name I immediately get the scene from captain. America in my head where cap is asking the general if bucky was captured and starts spelling his name and the general cuts him off with "I can can spell" 😭😭
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]1 points10m ago
Ohh lol ive never seen captain america but i have heard of it and heard its really good! But yea i sometimes have had instances where people with simple spelling common names would offer to spell their name out when i ask em for it. But the ones who u ask for help in spelling their name and they'll pull this shit above like it'll start like: "can i get a name for the order please?" ..."its branden"..."how do u spell that?" ..."branden with an e"......lolol its like cmon u could have just spelled it out but u had to go a roundabout way
rudebii54 points10m ago
I would have typed in “Winter with a y” as the name.
And go complain to your parents. “Wynter” is a shit name, sorry.
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]14 points10m ago
Honestly. Dont get mad at starbucks because u were vague about where the "y" goes and get complain to ur parents because they gave u one of those uNiQuE spelled names lol
TheGreatGatsbyTwo2 points9m ago
It’s pretty common and obvious. I can’t with baristas who defend stupidity…🤦🏾♂️
RavenMcG33 points10m ago
I type names wrong all the time and no one really gives 2 shits.
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]8 points10m ago
Yepp some girl said her name was Delphine today and my coworker accidentally typed in "stefanie" cuz she didnt kno how to spell it and it was chaos since it was double star day. But yea it shouldnt matter because its a very understandable and reasonable mistake. Its not something offensive. When it was posted in its original subreddit by the poster, there were people in the comments giving examples of what they would have thought "winter with a y" means:
-Wintyr -Wynter -Wintery -Wyntyr
This person took it that seriously lol its not meant to offend. Its literally a mistake because when they were asked for a name, they could have just said "my name is winter" and left it at that because it's literally only used for identifying somebody so they can come grab their order. Or they could have just spelled it out like hey whats ur name? "Oh my name is W-....." and they could have just put a letter Y where it's supposed to be as they're spelling it out instead of being all confusing and not clarifying
ladysingtheblues18 points10m ago
I would've gone with wintery
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]5 points10m ago
Lmao me too. Like be more specific and spell it out by stating where the "y" actually goes or im guna put it in there somewhere for u since its literally only used for identifying ur drink order.

Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]3 points10m ago
Lol yea if it's that serious to her about the spelling of her name then she could have spelled it out, that way the barista taking the order could know exactly where to put it. But now she wanted to be all edgy and cool so she said "winter but with a y"
Edit to add: or like you said they could give a fake name or something like that which they would easily remember because it's quite literally just used for identifying drink orders for customers. Like we have people just give us letters sometimes like just one letter because it's honestly not that serious but some people look at Starbucks as like a status thing so if their name isn't spelled to their liking, then they become upset
emileeavi1 points10m ago
My names simple but I always use my daughters name at Starbucks at my job. One person thought it was my name until one day my sister in law was working and she was like "hi Emily" and her coworkers face was hilarious
CLG_MianBao6 points10m ago
At my old store, I had people regularly refuse to give us a name. When they said “No” or “I’m Good” that’s literally what I would write on the cup.
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]3 points10m ago
Yea lol thats what some of my coworkers used to do. They would right "refused" at the top or something lol people think were guna track them or find out more about them with just a first name
CLG_MianBao2 points10m ago
For real! Ma’am I am not trying to stalk you I just need to know who to give your coffee to.
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]1 points10m ago
Lmao stalk. Foreal. Some people think its a conspiracy lol
JustATrailsFan2 points10m ago
Greetings,
I also have a regular who does not ever want to give his name. Like, mate, you are here literally every single day...I think you are pretty safe. 😅
Cheers, co is
ItzBoogieMan6 points10m ago
Wine-ter now
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]1 points10m ago
Lol she would get mad at anything thats not Wynter. Anybody that tells u their name is such and such "with a...(specific letter)" when theyre ordering food or drinks.....just kno they will be bothered by the spelling and it has to be perfect 😄
Agreeable-Ad72255 points10m ago
I love doing that I also like doing it as britknee or courtknee and stuff
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]3 points10m ago
Lmao i like those because those are just silly innocent fun. I mean the one above in the picture is also a silly one kind of but it's also genuinely confusing too. But I've never done one as a joke or in a silly way like you mentioned with britknee or courtknee lol i wana do em next time im on register which is super rare cuz im always on bar lol
anonymousLO20162 points9m ago
Pheven vibes
TakiNakamover2 points10m ago
Baristas have so much to worry about. Idc about ur name
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]1 points10m ago
Lol that is the truth.
Honestly, i don't kno why some people get upset over a name typo when getting drinks at starbucks. Its just a drink. Ur not applying to get a house. Ur not applying for student loans. A typo shouldn't be upsetting lol
potterlyfe2 points10m ago
Yeah that sounds like a problem with the parents. When you start messing with the spelling of traditional words, that's kinda on you. I will say the funniest misspelling was on my friends drink. His name is Forbes and they wrote 'Corpse' lol I about died when he sent me the pic of the cup.
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]1 points10m ago
Lmao now thats a store i would constantly be returning to 😁. Thats funny lol corpse
cosmicfledgling2 points10m ago
We had a regular customer yesterday tell a new barista that her name was Wendy with an I (Wendi) and she spelled it Windy instead. We laughed it off but at handoff the customer said that was how her grandma used to spell it and that it was a sweet mistake to make. Made her day.
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]1 points10m ago
Aww thats such a wholesome situation and that she discussed it with u guys 🙂 people spell my name wrong constantly even tho its a some what common name lol i dont care tho cuz it wasnt offensive to me. Its just interesting to see different ways people try to spell it based off of how it sounds to them! I would never get mad or fazed by seeing my name on food or drink orders that is spelled incorrectly😄
emileeavi2 points10m ago
Blame their parents for wanting a "quirky" name. 😂
Responsible_Snow7109 [OP]1 points10m ago
Lol yea "oh hunny what should we name her? Oh i kno! A season!....Winter with a Y"
thr0waway64361 points10m ago
I guess that why they posted it to r/mildlyinfuriating and not r/infuriating.
