Asking for names in the DT (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Due_Lock_4867
Does anyone else have to ask customers what their names are while taking orders in the drive thru? If so, what are your thoughts?

Personally, I’m often both DTR as well as DTO so it’s v difficult for me to balance both of these and take the time to both acquire and type customers names while doing five other things and I’m kind of over it.

Names for DT?? What a waste of time lol I’d be pissed if I was asked to do that. I usually say the customers name after I scan their sbux card, which is some kinda consolation I guess.

We had to start doing it to get our customer connections up, which is whatever, but the only thing I like about it is that it makes staging so much easier.

i worked at a diff store once and they were doing it- it would go like “hi welcome to starbucks my names ____ what’s yours?? ______ nice to meet you ______ what can i get started for you?”

We ask for names sometimes to stall them, usually to give my oven and bar a little time to catch up

We only do it for the mobil customers who come thru drive. It’s also helpful when they “add on” to their mobil so we know to group it together.

I like it. I’m always on bar and it gives me a few extra seconds to make the drink.

Personally, I try to keep order times as low as possible so I never do. Nobody else at my store does either. Window would be the best place to ask if you’re trying to make connections, but I don’t bother on drive thru orders at all

I get it, I think corporate is trying to force that on baristas to improve connections (they mentioned it in the weekly update about the customer name button), but I’m not a fan
