Am I gonna get fired? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by kileyisrad
I’ve been working at Starbucks since may so not long at all. When I’m at work I’m a good worker I’m proactive and good with people and my sm recognizes this. Within the very few months I’ve worked here I’ve had the worst lineup of circumstances. I got in a car wreck, my grandfather died, I got covid, my brother died, my dog fell very Ill, (he is fine now) and now I have the flu :/ not a fun lineup at all it’s been the hardest few months of my life to say the least. Because of all this I’ve had to miss about 9.5 scheduled days, of course the illnesses being in bulk days at a time. I’m afraid that I’m going to be fired for missing all these days especially the ones that were so last minute that I couldn’t find coverage I just didn’t go (my brother passing away and an emergency vet visit) I might be overreacting but I’ve been incredibly anxious about it because I really enjoy working at Starbucks and I feel like my sm is on their last straw with me.

Sbux requires you to notify the shift supervisor or your SM before your scheduled shift I’d you’re going to call out for illness. You are NOT required to find coverage if you are calling out due to illness, nor can you be reprimanded for using your sick leave. I can find the specific clauses in the Partner Guide if you’d like.

Sorry you've had such a rough go, bud! Talk to your manager and consider taking a LOA. it's job protection for you. Be as open, honest, and transparent with your SM about this. Hopefully they aren't one to lack empathy. Let them know your job is important to you and you don't want this string of issues to make you lose it. Good luck starbuddy.

Just make sure they’ll let you come *back*… they didn’t let me.

Update: I was overthinking I am not getting fired

Did you call out for all those shifts, or did you no call-no show?
kileyisrad [OP] 12 points 10m ago
I let them know each time I missed

From Starbucks' perspective that's a good thing. I'm sorry you've been dealing with so much adversity, and obviously your well-being is more important than a shift at Starbucks.

I'd talk to your manager. Have they sat you down to talk to you about missing those shifts? Have they written you up for it? Or are you just feeling bad vibes? To ease your anxiety about it, have an honest convo with them to see where you stand.

As long as you are notifying with over an hour notice room before the shift you should be fine.

I’m so sorry you’re going through that. Last year I was in a similar circumstance with car trouble and 7 unexpected family deaths back to back. I ended up taking an LOA which really helped deal with everything and helped to not lose hours. I think you’ll be okay, but you should pull your SM aside and let them know how you feel with everything going on. Hope everything works out for you ❤️

I would talk to your SM about it. hopefully, you called before not showing up otherwise it would be a no-call no show which is not great. If you did and all your reasons are legitimate you "should" be fine. A lot of it depends on your SM and possibly your DM so I can't give a solid answer.
