Personally, I love it. Sounds cool and convenient. But it's not gonna help in practice. The machine won't likely be reliable enough, and how long will it take for repairs? Do baristas go back to the old methods of sequencing, or are frappuccinos put on hold until the dispenser is fixed? What about hyper-customized drinks? How in the world do you explain to a clueless customer that their order has to have more or less ice to be contained in the size they want with all the modifications they require? How much is "light ice" really? It sounds like a recipe for more chaos. Such is the struggle of a "luxury" brand. I don't think there's an easy answer to the underlying issue. And this process would take several years to implement, like the Mastrena II's. Is it really worth the effort for such an insignificant level of change?

How do you do this currently 💀

^(Seriously though, what am I supposed to do if that person orders the frapp with 8 shots and 30 pumps of syrup again)

“Sorry our whip cream machine is broken”
BakerBetty20 2 points 9m ago
It can be like the infamous McDonalds ice cream machines 😂
psionicillusionist 6 points 10m ago
I choose to take this very literally, I just ask if they want to forego milk to regain some of the drinks slushy consistency. But also?? Fr fr it's so hard to explain drink builds to the bourgeoisie.

Well said

It seems like mostly a way to 1) get more customers through more quickly (making more money for sbux) and 2) justify cutting labour and having even fewer partners on the floor (making more money for sbux)

Also lmao at the "better mobile order time estimates", as though customers actually pay attention to when their app says their order will be ready 🙃🤡
dirtychai0218 8 points 10m ago
u don’t have customers coming in and yelling “THe aPp SAid iT WOulD BE rEAdY bY NoW!!!”. ??? jealous
deesarrachi 5 points 10m ago
Apparently we've started! We usually just get the pulling up to the speaker as the sticker prints and saying "I just put through my mobile, I'm here to pick it up"
dirtychai0218 2 points 10m ago
we get a great mix of both 🙄 people be ignorant
Tha_jphil 3 points 9m ago
You liked how they snuck “cold brew costs $50 million in labor? WoOoW”
briameowmeow 36 points 10m ago
That’s a lot of words but where are credit card tips?
MrsClaireUnderwood 17 points 10m ago
The warming wall. We really are mcdonald's.
Torirock10 13 points 10m ago
i don’t rlly care cuz i doubt they’ll implement them any time soon.
interyx 10 points 10m ago
They finally fixed the problems with the Clover X, huh. We'll see how easy it is to serve on-demand coffee during peak. And how would you brew a traveler with a cup-based system? Hmph.

Clearly they're trying to automate us out of a job. They've been slowly taking away our levers in the name of convenience and speed. First it was the move from semi-automatic machines with porta filters to the super automatic Mastrenas, and the Mastrena II won't let you adjust the shot time. Now all the frappuccinos will be pre measured, but what about when we have to make adjustments because someone has added four shots? This is why there's a person in the middle doing the measuring and able to adjust when needed.

And the food? I think it's dumb. Yeah we'll have a ready supply of hot stuff but they can't keep every sandwich we'll sell in there during peak, so we still need a warming partner, plus how do we know when a fresh sandwich is warm? Who's keeping track of that?

Investing in this will make them crack down even more unreasonably on labor and speed, too. I'm getting out of here as soon as I'm out of school. Sooner if I can find a job.

Agreed. Reading this just makes me want out even more

My store has all the old equipment still so I'm not gonna hold my breath on this stuff. It does seem cool though!
mymelodywithaglock 8 points 10m ago
it’s cool to see they’re actually trying to come up with ways to help baristas and improve customer connections. i don’t think any of the fancy stuff will be put into licensed stores so i’m probably never gonna see any of it. The video of the barista making the frappuccino was really cool! I wish they could make the pumps more automatic too though, as pushing on them all day really fucks up my wrists lol. The automatic whipped cream tho 😍 perfect whipped cream everytime ? yes please
I don’t know how i feel about the new warming station. It gives hella mcdonald’s vibes and i honestly like the fact starbucks heats-to-serve our sandwiches): it makes them taste even a lil more fresh lol i can imagine we’d also probably have to dump wayyyy more sandwiches this way? but idk
They also were testing out ways to make a pink drink in less time ? I’m curious about this, is it an instant shaker combined with the automatic milk dispenser? very curious…

but i don’t think we’ll see any of this even within the next couple of years
zzid2d21 5 points 10m ago
I agree about the sandwiches. We waste too much food as it is.
Lightheaded_gamer 6 points 10m ago
They obviously never observed a store at its peak (Especially when they have customer support having to be the extra hand at hot and cold bar). There’s not gonna be enough surface room or equipment for multiple partners to maneuver.

Cute idea for like a licensed Starbucks at a hotel or hospital but not for actual cafes.

Partners are going to really be going over each other needing to get to the milk and ice.
Enbyenbyoxenfree 6 points 10m ago
I love the idea of introducing new technology, but when they can’t even get some stores up to date with the current standard, it’s going to make it even harder for the folks who get customers who experience this faster service, and then expect it everywhere, while other stores are stuck with the slower technology. It’s going to be even more stressful for the lower priority stores than it already is. My store has a ridiculously tiny warning station, and we still don’t have the new smaller ovens.
Ok-Mix-5129 6 points 10m ago
I don’t hate it, but more and more we are becoming less of a coffee shop. I personally prefer hand making all the drinks which we don’t even for the espresso shots anymore.
QueenMab88 6 points 10m ago
Looks like a huge pain to clean all that fancy new equipment and I hate the part about pre-warmed sammies.
EyesOpenedWide31 5 points 10m ago
Thank you unionized stores for giving Starbucks the push to make a difference in partners work lives. They are the reason all these changes are happening. The more stores that push back at them the more they will be forced to change their ways and implement changes like this.
canidieyet_ 4 points 9m ago
honestly if this is the direction they’re going in, i’m finding a new job. if i wanted to work with automated milk machines i’d go to dunkin
megs1288 4 points 10m ago
This would be great..except they would need to renovate a lot of older stores that don’t have room to move
hlfblind 3 points 10m ago
the ice and milk seems INCREDIBLY silly and honestly during busy times its probably more time consuming
purplejanuary14 3 points 10m ago
Are the new coffee machines gonna be like giant keurigs?
thefearofthirteen 3 points 10m ago
anyone else see that milk drip from the ceiling
clouds183 1 points 10m ago
right, pretty gross imo
Dani_Phantom22 2 points 10m ago
Doesn't it take out the " hand made beverage" experience?
No_Tip4841 1 points 9m ago
Are we really even baristas than?
dnims24 1 points 9m ago
I think it’s really cool in theory but how does it do during a rush? Also what if the milk dispenser thing breaks down? Will we still have the fridges to pour it manually? As a side note I hated the whipped cream dispenser
