Help me understand this please. My store is very hush-hush on Starbucks related things 😬(i.redd.it)

Jesus Christ.
Okay, so here's what's happening currently. Starbucks came out with a whole list of cool benefits and said "wooooow, look at all these COOL BENEFITS that we're offering! Aren't we awesome?? But, aw man, if you're a union store we *legally can't* give them to you without bargaining! So sad for you!!"
And the union/s politely said "heyo, we love this concept! we'll go ahead and waive our right to bargain on this list because it looks so cool and we like what you're doing. Go ahead and implement these benefits at our stores too; you have a green light."
And Starbucks... basically collectively jammed their corporate hands over their metaphorical ears and yelled "waaaah the union won't *bargain* with us, it's so sad that we can't do anything until they *bargain* with us about the stuff that we *totally want to give them* if they would only *bargain* with us!!!!"
So now the union/s just keep patiently repeating "yep, the bargain is you offer to implement it and we say yes, that's how it works, that's what's going on" while Starbucks ignores it because if the union stores get the benefits then how will they EVER convince non-union stores not to unionize?
But it's only going to work for so long, because eventually everyone will have to admit that Starbucks is breaking the law while the union/s are not, and it'll come tumbling down at that point.
Long story short, Starbucks is lying out their ass to scare you.

Thank you. I was really confused because I’m cool with unionizing and have a general understanding of it. But then, to see that the WU doesn’t want to bargain seemed VERY off.

Yeah, that's like the entire point of unionizing, honestly.
My guess is there's also an element of "we won't be able to bargain with you until you stop being absolute monsters and can be reasonable" to which starbucks responds with "aha! they said they can't bargain!" because "good faith" is not in their vocabulary.

Just keep in mind… there’s a lot of misinformation out there.
Starbucks doesn’t think unions are good for them. The unions think otherwise. Unions are for profit. So is Starbucks. They both want what they want. But honestly. When you ask for guaranteed $5 he tips there no way Starbucks is going to say yes. Unions aren’t all sunshine and rainbows. There’s always two sides.

& Based off of Starbucks’s prior behavior without a doubt this is Starbucks way of delaying the bargaining process further. But they can’t put it off forever!

Corporate is currently refusing to bargain with stores, not the other way around. There's a couple NLRB cases against them for it right now

“Our partners and our stores aren’t cookie cutter?!” Um, since when do CORPORATE stores give us different benefits based on our unique stores? We literally ARE getting “cookie cutter” benefits. The only major thing that isn’t the same across the board is the pay-rates. But those are calculated by location, not by store. They want to make it sound like they put careful thought into each and every one of us as special individuals in the corporate stores. No, they don’t.

literally ‘our partners and stores aren’t cookie cutter’ …. *proceeds to implement cookie cutter standards at every store*…… make it make sense
RyusuiJL3 points10m ago
And their pay rate reasoning has been questionable, at best. From everything I've been hearing, there are a lot of partners making more than our location, and we live in literally THE highest cost of living state in the country.

When you decided to unionize. That’s when.
jazzysoranio1 points10m ago
But we’re still cookie cutter. That hasn’t changed. They don’t determine our corporate store benefits based on each individual store. Yet they’re trying to call out the unions and say “look how they don’t want to negotiate benefits for each individual store!”
Kmsss1 points9m ago
Unions have a better chance of getting what they want if they work with individual stores. They already tried going for the whole company. It didn’t work. So they settled for each store.
To me, unions are like religious organizations. They’re for profit, they make all these claims for you, but they really can’t say for sure. There is no proof until bargaining happens. Everyone wants them to cure everything, but there’s no proof it makes sense- especially for a retail store.
It sucks that shitty management In some areas can cause a lot of this pain partners are feeling.
I feel blessed my district is really cool. And really good to us.

Lies and anti-union propaganda. Mostly lies though
buzzy90003 points10m ago
"our stores aren't cookie cutter" ok so what's the point of brand standards then?
MatchingColors3 points10m ago
Our stores aren’t “cookie cutter”?
That’s truly a ridiculous statement. Is every store different? Yes, in the sense that every human who exists is unique. But store operations are highly regulated and consistent across every store. If stores weren’t cookie cutter, why would there be so many routines for everything? Why is it that you can find a routine for anything related to store operations? We all make the same drinks right? The same method? The same components?
Sure, I’ll give them that reserve stores are different. But that’s like 1% of the total number of stores

Who the fuck are they kidding with this cookie cutter crap?
