Tip Thief (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by liaminnesotan
We’ve had a guy coming in and stealing our tips. Not just a dollar or two but all of the money out of every tip jar. The SSVs have talked to our SM about it but they’ve just said that we can call the non emergency number and that’s it. We have his plate number. Are we allowed to call the police? Or is there anything else we can do?

Everytime someone puts a dollar in the tip jar take it out and put it in a tip bag or another box somewhere out of reach. That is what I would do. Your shifts should be able to call the cops, but the non emergency number is probably going to get you the same result as 911. They will pull the footage, see if they can ID the guy (I know the cops in my area know a lot of the homeless population around me). If they can't, it goes into a file until someone makes a connection. Best deterent is to remove the cash from view

I hope they stop taking your tips. I would be so mad.

Glue your tip jar down to the counter and add a lid with a small slot so customers can put money in, but not fit their hand in to take stuff out. Had the same issue at my store, we started removing the tip containers when we saw the customer come into the store
