Today while i was on dt bar, i had a customer give this odd request, that was not to shake the matcha but to put their TEN SCOOPS, ontop 😭 (i.redd.it)

I got that too!! They said not to stir or shake it and they just want it on top. Maybe they scoop it off the top and use it later? I don’t think it would taste very good just straight up.

I had a regular order her matchas like this all the time. I asked her if it made it taste different and she said "I like the chunks of matcha powder"

Back in the day they came not shaken and tbh I kind of miss the taste of the grass chunks….. I usually don’t shake up my own matcha lattes when I make them. Maybe that’s why they’re requesting it?

Edit: i also hate the milk foam after it’s shaken, takes up too much space

We get this rarely. I used to think it was just this one customer. Apparently from what we told they want to do it themselves, I have no clue why though.

maybe they get slightly more milk since it foams a lot when u shake it ? either way this isnt something i wouldnt mind doing for customers, less work for me more drink for them

if i had to guess it’s because some baristas don’t shake the matcha in all the way so there’s still clumps of matcha left. it’s a really bad problem at my store. i always shake mine fully even if it takes a few seconds because i wouldn’t want to drink that.

I’ve had customers order it like this so they can shake it themselves because of allergies. They didn’t want any cross contamination.

The old way was made this way. We would swirl the cup by holding the bottom in circular motions and the ice will help blend the matcha and milk.

Edit: I personally don’t like all the foam the shaker creates so sometimes I like to have it unshaken and just stir it in with a straw, they will eventually blend together. Or I’ll ask for no foam and that works too.

Yeah the foam makes me annoyed just as a barista and i don’t even drink matcha so i can only imagine, i always take my time with pouring it tho so i get majority of the foam out of the drink, or I’ll just put it in a bigger cup because I’ve remade too many matchas due to foam I’m over it

i shake my matchas without ice, i find it incorporates better and the foam isn’t as bad. you can add as much ice as you need so it doesn’t overflow after

I use the foam blender. If u dump everything in there including ice, it won’t foam up. It gives u half inch of crema (produced when foam is mixed/blend with something and it’s a similar definition to the espresso crema). I press a button and let it go. It’s kinda like a bubble tea auto shaker. I do this with the pink, dragon, and paradise drinks too (or any other milk)—no separated coconut milk. I do shake everything else that’s not milk based because they do combine easily.

We had a regular at the first store I worked at who everyday got a grande nonfat iced matcha with 14 HEAPING scoops of matcha on top, not shaken. Put a dome lid on it and swirl. The older partners would tell new ones to compare the color of it to their apron and if it wasn’t dark enough to add at least 2 more scoops. She also would come to the drive thru and just go “it’s [her name]!” And immediately drive up, which made training new people on drive thru very fun 🙃

I hate that our matcha lattes aren’t default cut with water. I always add water for myself - seeing people drink a venti cup of all milk makes me want to be sick.

I will put it in a foam pitcher and pulse it on #3 once or twice real quick. It mixes it just enough with much less foam. I hate shaking it and giving the customer so much foam. Then I add the ice.

We frequently do this if customers are unhappy with the foam, personally i just be sure to take my time with pouring to let most of the foam out and pour as much actual liquid as i can. I have partners at my store that will litterally serve a grande matcha that’s 1/2 foam and discard of the remains in the shaker that actually has liquid in it ! 🤦🏼‍♀️

We have a regular who gets 8 scoops ! But he gets it shaken with water, it was more the request to not shake than the scoops of matcha bc honestly people go crazy with add ins almost nothing surprises me anymore 😂😂
