just a warning cuz this description might get a bit gross lol
for me, my hands have gone through several different stages, so I dont know how universal my experience is but personally it does feel a bit more on the extreme end?
when it was just starting up I think it was just a few dry patches here and there with a lot of pretty bad sores showing up mostly on my fingers. the sores were pretty painful, but small and very like acne. my hands would get bad, heal a bit, get even worse, heal a little more, etc..
I'd also get these abrasions on my skin that were like very very short cuts, but seemed weirdly deep for the length, and I for sure wasn't getting them by actually slicing my skin. they'd just appear out of nowhere. they didn't bleed though.
I remember one time my hands were so dry and sore (before my store had any lotion to use) that I told my shift lead I couldn't use the sanitizer at all when she asked me to clean counters, but she just told me to glove up and get wiping. sure enough, not too long after the friction from the glove made my hands bleed and I made sure she saw me grabbing bandages lol.
but anyway recently I haven't been getting a lot of cut-like abrasions or many of those sores, but I HAVE been getting enormous dry patches, basically fully engulfing the backs of my hands in one big, very red, dry, itchy patch. very gross warning, but a couple days ago the dry skin on my hand were falling off in pretty sizeable flakes, and it would not stop until all the dead skin was basically completely shed off.
not to mention how much it hurt to bend my fingers if I wasn't constantly CONSTANTLY lotioning up. so so painful fr. genuinely horrible to experience, and all that is part of the reason im finally quitting. this entire time ive basically just been told "glove up and deal with it" and I'm sick of it
