Someone legit just came in and attempted to order a DIET COKE?? HELLO?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by melkorarose
This literally just happened. She was dead serious too, and so was her friend. They were both fully convinced we carry soda? And then proceeded to check the Grab & Go for soda like I was lying 💀
Has anyone else had some crazy things happen like this
420bumblebeetuna104 points9m ago
our store is connected to a chipotle (which has no drive thru and idk of a chipotle that does), and occasionally we’ll have people try and order a damn burrito bowl through the drive thru, but if there are cars behind them, they’re trapped in the starbucks and for some reason, their inability to pay attention is our fault, lol. it’s so annoying cuz where i live people are so impatient and rude and start ordering before i even greet them at DTO, so i like to be a smartass sometimes and let them finish their order and say “if you closely at our menu you’ll see that this is a starbucks and not a chipotle.”
melkorarose [OP]47 points9m ago
Omg I HATE when they immediately start ordering at dto before they even get a response 😭😭 I don't even speak till spoken to at drive thrus like cmon have patience
I purposefully ignore them longer if they do that--or if I immediately say "give me one second" and they start ordering anyways or screaming HELLO?
floofxs28 points9m ago
I hate when people say Hello as soon as they pull up to the DTO… it’s not a telephone!!??
FrustratingBears4 points9m ago
ohhhh this boils my blood
Katerade__3 points9m ago
YALL I THOUGHT THIS ONLY HAPPENED AT MY BUCKIES! Thank you for letting me know I’m not alone
melkorarose [OP]2 points9m ago
People are insane and entitled 🤣😭
flutetoottooter16 points9m ago
Ours is right next to a Boston Market, similar set up where we are a drive thru and Boston Market isn’t. The amount of times we’ve had someone come up in our drive thru line, stare at the menu, and then proceed to try and order a chicken platter astonishes me.
ProfessorSalt4137 points9m ago
Mine shares a building with a Cold Stone so every now and then people come through and try to get ice cream in a drive thru???? Ah yes the drive thru that starts right behind the cold stone and with the window at the Starbucks that’s where we should go get our ice cream.
Buttafly_3602 points9m ago
Mines next door to a ABC Liquor store lol
BatWeary7 points9m ago
omg a starbucks attached to a chipotle would be a dream. my coworkers and i LOVE chipotle, we’d be broke so fast omg
Buttafly_3602 points9m ago
We have a Moe's on the same block as us downtown so I go there 😭
chipqueen25323 points9m ago
chipotles have a “chipotlane” which isn’t for ordering and only for mobile pickup
Katerade__1 points9m ago
This and there’s one in my city
Pylon-Cam3 points9m ago
The chipotle near my house has a drive thru, but that’s the only one I’ve seen.
FrustratingBears1 points9m ago
we’re next to a walk-in only taco place and so i’ve always started my greeting with “thank you for choosing starbucks”
and people will STILL order a beef burrito
lilmissambersue37 points9m ago
Someone asked me if we sold cigarettes.....lol I was like sir, no. There's a 711 up the road.
This is a family establishment not a bar lmfao
melkorarose [OP]7 points9m ago

My favorite interaction like this was when I had a lady adamantly calling the sausage and cheddar a McMuffin. I was on ovens and my co SSV was on DT orders and we kept giving each other weird looks during the order (it was a huge order, too.) every time the lady said “McMuffin” co SSV would repeat back “sausage, egg, cheddar and finally at the end of the order the lady goes “I don’t know why you keep saying sausage cheddars when I’m trying to order some damn McMuffins!!” Co SSV was feeling smartassy and responds “I’m sorry to inform you ma’am but we are not McDonald’s .” I was doubled over from laughing so hard. Then when I brought the lady’s bagged up food to him I told him I’d give him $20 if he handed them out and called them McMuffins. He absolutely jumped on that xD

good 'ol genericized trademarks, the bane of successful companies everywhere!

Today I got a girl who came through drive with her dad and asked if we had any pop (which took me a moment because I’m a firm believer in using the word soda) and I said no. And then when they got up to the window the dad leaned over and yelled “HEY!” as I was walking away to help another customer (yes dt is planted but we had a bad day today) and I turned around and he said “so you’re telling me you really don’t have a soda fountain? No fountain drinks at all?” And I said “no we don’t” and he rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. Like sir… what?
melkorarose [OP]11 points9m ago
Why do they think we have soda machines or soda, like literally read the menu, its right there buddy 😐
Vrylin13315 points9m ago
Omg, a customer once asked me if we had soup 😭
totallyNotEvie85893 points9m ago
same! I'm wondering if some Barnes and nobles sell soup, or maybe the "vanilla soy latte is a three bean soup" joke got stretched too far
yvesagain2 points9m ago
That happened to me too! He asked pretty sheepishly and was like "uhhh you guys don't soup do you?" and was pretty nice when I said no, and politely left. Still funny tho
nicolelynnejones2 points9m ago
Soup and tuna salad sandwiches (or maybe chicken salad? i can’t remember) we’re sold at some locations back in the day iirc. We get asked about those too
hmarie071611 points9m ago
I had a customer come through drive thru super early one morning and try to order both a McMuffin and burrito
And then those who are dead set on the “Under the Sea” refresher. We have had many customers get mad when we explain that it doesn’t exist, and the barista who posted it on TikTok did it as a joke with cleaning products.
zackeus9211 points9m ago
It's insane, but yes, I've had that question before. Along with 'can I get the bacon gouda but on a croissant?'.
RyusuiJL18 points9m ago
Of course! That'll be $11.35!
barlemniscate1 points9m ago
There’s double smoked, or we can cut the croissant in half and put it on there. I’ve done it before.
Affectionate_Fart10 points9m ago
It’s not that crazy considering Dunkin’ sells coke products and then MCD…I’d be more concerned if they were looking for a steak dinner
melkorarose [OP]10 points9m ago
Oh it's definitely not the weirdest thing. Back in 2016 I worked at panera and had this guy on the phone ordering a pizza pie for 40 minutes. Adter I convinced him we didnt sell pizza, he asked me to go next door and order him a pie, then said "can't you just put the tomato soup on the cheese bagel and cook it for me?"
Ik Panera has pizza now, but this was LONG before it was even a thought.
Affectionate_Fart4 points9m ago
Huh…dude’s a genius…
melkorarose [OP]1 points9m ago
Looking back yeah, he was definitely onto something, but freshly 18 yo me with no backbone was PANICKING. I was maybe at panera 3 months lol
Affectionate_Fart1 points9m ago
That’s fair. Lol
Callme_ric9 points9m ago
A customer once asked me for a pound of our roast beef.
blo0ming9 points9m ago
The Barnes and noble Starbucks usually sells coke products so they probably are thinking of that
nicolelynnejones1 points9m ago
Same with Disney buxes
transluciiiid7 points9m ago
once had a customer hit my ssv because we didn’t sell coke and wouldn’t go get her one from the walgreens next door
Softrbreeze1 points9m ago
That entitlement is RIDICULOUS!
Softrbreeze1 points9m ago
🤔
earthonion1 points9m ago
Yeah.

Tinytoronado6 points9m ago
Today a girl tried ordering a bagel sandwich “can I get an everything bagel toasted…” “ok, anything else?” “With ham, cheese, and tomatoes please
totallyNotEvie85891 points9m ago
that's a dunkin thing
Alefur6 points9m ago
We're right next door to s sandwich shop and people.keep mixing up our buildings asking for some weird sandwiches or something and I always respond with "Uhhhh I have no idea what that is I think you want the place next door.."
melkorarose [OP]6 points9m ago
People don't seem to read nowadays. Typically most stores, even if they're connected to another, will be designed to look like their sibling stores, so its not that hard to read the room and better yet, the menu 😭
Like ie most paneras in my area look the same with their own quirks so for me, I can tell its a panera. Same with like wendys etc
paigemclachlan4 points9m ago
Got asked for broccoli cheddar soup one time
Buttafly_3604 points9m ago
Yes OP twice this weekend I had ppl come in asking for sprite or coke like no soda products I'm sorry..or back wen sum1 asked if we had soup..like no sorry this isn't an Panera bread😭💀
mr_epix184 points9m ago
Whenever people ask for a soda, I just bluntly say, “We don’t do that here,” immediately followed by, “Anything else I can help you with?”
durqandat3 points9m ago
We have grilled cheese and potato chips so maybe this one is a little more on us every year
Ceramicusedbook3 points9m ago
Starbucks used to sell Jones soda (in Canada).
Tim Hortons also sells coke and diet coke in bottles.
It's dumb but it's just what they're used to.
melkorarose [OP]6 points9m ago
I'm in the US and I've never heard of Starbucks selling soda, but it could make a lot more sense if those customers were new to the country lol
Edit: I wrote coffee instead of soda lol, I'm a night partner working a mid so I'm dead LOL
rudebii2 points9m ago
We had bottled mineral waters and would make Italian sodas for customers if they wanted.
But yeah, maybe once every week or two someone would come in looking for a Coke.
BatWeary2 points9m ago
we’ve been getting like 5 people a week asking for coke/sprite specifically here lately. idk who told them we have it but they get so mad when i tell them we don’t
Exhausted_mama932 points9m ago
This happens ALL the time here in Utah. We have more drive thru soda shops than one can count, and people always ask for sodas or energy drinks 😑
floofxs22 points9m ago
I worked at a sushi quick service/counter type restaurant before SB and got asked at least once a shift for chicken and cheese burgers.
melkorarose [OP]1 points9m ago
Omfg
charamander_2 points9m ago
our kiosk is next to the deli department so i've had more than one person come up in absolute silence expecting me to weigh and ring up their by-the-pound box until i told them the deli was directly to their left 💀
sweet-cream-hedgehog2 points9m ago
My store is in between a culvers and a taco bell. We get lots of confusion of people trying to order tacos or butterburgers
Vegan_Sweetie1 points9m ago
Same thing happened at my store a while back. They couldn’t believe we didn’t carry coke products.
Ew_Oxygen11241 points9m ago
Our store has a McDonalds right next to us. I often hear “can I get a double cheeseburger?”
totallyNotEvie85891 points9m ago
I had a guy order "just a drink" once. I think part of it was a language barrier, but he spoke English pretty well otherwise. "drink" was the only word he used, so after offering several other suggestions my barista and I just put through an iced coffee
ittybittybakerkitty1 points9m ago
All the time. People in the drive thru also think we are either the Coney island nextdoor or the Wingstop at the end of the strip mall.
eagle67051 points9m ago
While they're at it have them pick up some blinker fluid at the car shop
broookeee_1 points9m ago
i remember this lady asked if we sell diet coke and she was like ‘well what do ya have here?’ i honestly found it funny bc it reminds of my dad when he asks if we have pepsi and shit cus he has never ordered anything except a refresher😭
melkorarose [OP]1 points9m ago
"What do you have here?" M-ma'am it's in the name.. coffee.. it says coffee shop...
Wspitsamanda1 points9m ago
ME TOO SOME GUY WAS LIIKE “do you have coke?” SO WE LOOK LIKE WE HAVE COKE???
Lightheaded_gamer1 points9m ago
It’s probably because they see the refreshers in cans or only go to Barnes and noble Starbucks or Target Starbucks.
I get the confusion , I don’t get the rudeness tho .
yvesagain1 points9m ago
I had someone very confidently order a plain bagel with butter and jelly. I was still pretty new then so I had to double check that we don't in fact sell jelly because she was SO confident about it
Callme_ric1 points9m ago
I think we used to give packets of jelly at one point….. back in maybe 2015?
